I blame this
I'm a tad out of the loop here. It seems to me that over here the fat fuck is still pretty popular. But ouf course YMMV. (ahaha Kart pun)

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileDunno. Should Nintendo let Mario fade into the background a little and focus more on the rest of their stars? If Link was their mascot, maybe we would get more adventure or RPG games. If it were Samus or Fox maybe we would get more Sci-Fi or FPS games. Mario is the "everyman" but maybe people are getting tired of ordinary heroes. Maybe they want less "vanilla" and a bit more variety?
Last year's Mario didn't star Mario. It was a cooperative game with Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad. Before that was the "Year of Luigi." People REALLY seemed to focus on Luigi in Kart, yes, for the stare, but, if you think about it, people seemed to LIKE the fact that Luigi was pissed... Why is that? How much attention was focused on Mario in Kart?
Nintendo is in a precarious position right now. They may be seeing a bit of success, but Mario has little to do with it. They needed to change things up a bit, not focus on what they normally focus on and branch out a bit. We got Hyrule Warriors, there's a new Yoshi game on the horizon, a new Kirby game on the horizon. Star Fox is in development. Zelda is coming. Yeah, Mario Maker is too... but... that's more of a Mario Construction Kit... It's almost like they are saying "We're out of ideas. Here. You make Mario levels now." Where's Galaxy? Where's Mario's next BIG game?
In order for Nintendo to grow and survive in this world they can't keep doing the same thing again and again. The defintion of insanity for Nintendo right now would be making another Mario and expecting a different outcome.

The games quality is what matter most, Mario is familiar and is in a way is his own seal of quality. I just think the games have been getting saturated and some are only decent.

Now don't bring Sonic into this.
Really, over saturation with just decent games is key. NSMB games are boring now. What was the reason for a NSMB U game than to just have a Mario game at launch?
When you have a game like Smash, Mario is kind of like the straight man in a comedy team. He's essential to the whole product but can get overshadowed.

I second this.

Naughty Dog should just stick to making versions of memes with their characters and stop making games.

I thought they already have.
The only character I'm sick of is Sonic, because they milk the shit out of him with horrible games. At least other companies who milk have some kind of quality standards.

It's silly, really, but go into ANY game or toy store and look at the Amiibo section. You know which figure is the one that no one wants? Anybody play as him in Smash, or Kart for that matter? Did Nintendo push him past the point of over-saturation? Has he lost his luster or is it that there's no new Mario game on the horizon? Thoughts?
Mario has always been boring as a character. He's corporate logo #1. But the quality of the games he is in is generally indisputable.
