Hmm, that's a tough one. You can't go wrong with 2d Mario so there's no doubt it would be awesome, but you couldn't really do all the epic space stuff in 2d.
Harvest Moon would undoubtably be better if it returned to its humble 16 bit origins.
Rune Factory on the other hand would definitely take a hit. It would probably play close to the same with the farming and combat features all there, but the graphics and sound would take a big hit, and the environment is actually what ties the whole game together. The Runies wouldn't be able to float around, the townspeople wouldn't look as good, and even the little things like hearing the sound of the windmill or the stream as you approach them would be gone. Those little things are what really bring the town alive and that's a major part of the game.
I don't think Arkham Asylum would translate well.
Left 4 Dead would just be Total Carnage, which I guess I'd still pay for.
Listen to Iced Earth and play Doom

Search up the 2D super mario galaxy video on youtube. It can be done.
Mine would be taking something like Hotel dusk and putting it in graphic adventure mode, 3rd person point and click.

Go track down Deja Vu for the NES. You'll get a Hotel Dusk quality mystery.
Little Big Planet though would be awesome. Its already 2D and I think without the layers it would even be better. Making a level in 2D would be easier. Maybe they fix up the jumping so its more Mario like. The problem is online, I guess we can bring that tech with us in the hot tub.
Dvader said:MGS4, that would be impossible. What would it be a top down game like older MGS games. No it wouldn't work.

There was online gaming in the 16 bit era. It wasn't overly common but there was that SNES satellite that was pretty big in Japan. And I think there was something else, as I have a friend that would somehow play Super Street Fighter II online with it.

Also Sega Channel. But LBP would require much better online service.

Level creator would probably be out the window. Or it would be dumbed down to Brawl's level.

It could work on the PC. In that era (as you'd know) we had games like Incredible Machine, which let you play around with component with "real" physics.

Ahhh. that would be cool.

...
Yeah, it's just be another bad licensed game from Ocean.

What the?
How can you ask someone to track down an old NES cartridge? Is it on VC?
Final Fantasy VII is not my favourite game, and it's already a couple of generations ago, but look at these just for fun:

Not yet. You could look on eBay I suppose. It was also bundled on the GBC with its sequel that was never released as "Deja Vu I & II: The Casebooks of Ace Harding.
Anyway point was, they could make a great Hotel Dusk style game even as far back as the 8 Bit gen.

I want to play that.
Also, I know there was that one dude who was trying to remake Ocarina of Time in 2D that Nintendo shut down, but I would love to see Nintendo making a Ocarina of Time with Link to the Past graphics and style of play.
And as for modern shooters, just play the Call of Duty or Brothers in Arms mobile phone games and that's how it'd be if they were on the SNES!
Like these!

Me too.
Square-Enix should do something like this. At least it wouldn't take them 14 years!

Take your favorite current gen game or series and imagine how it would be on a 16-bit system. Would it still be fun?
Mine is No More Heroes (since I still have not received Yakuza 3) and yeah, I think it would be fun, in fact I think it might be better as a 16 bit game. Some Mode 7, mostly side-scrolling -- that would rule. Boss battle after boss battle, some text in between each one with sexy Sylvia cast in pixel-scans.
