This is without question the most beautiful game I have ever played. And so far one of the most boring. First three hours is just tutorial missions where you ride along another character and you talk for 10 minutes at a time. The player does nothing but press A to keep the horse on pace. Gunplay is the same shit from GTA5. Controls are bad, there are a ton of context actions, X does like five different things. To access your guns you need to go to your horse, press and hold L1, then press triggers to change items, then press x to select, it's like 3 buttons to pick a gun. So far missions have been the most basic of let the player pretend they are doing something where everything is just context actions. Set dynamite hold Y, interrogate, press B, fix a wheel hold up. Outside of shootouts I've just been the puppet of rockstar giving me the absolute minimum of player interactivity.

I finally finished the first chapter and finally after 3 hours they let me free and finally I can hopefully do what I want. There are loads of game systems at play like eating, drinking, weight, horse cleanliness, shaving, and so on. Now that I'm free hopefully it all flows well. Story seems good, it better be amazing for all this setup.

I haven't done the actual freedom part which is what a rockstar game is so don't put much into these impressions. Basically it's a boring tutorial, let's see how it is when free.

Yep, tutorial was too long and the snowy area was a little boring.   It sure looks good though, but not drastically better than the first.  I guess because I can recall how much of a looker that game is.

The micromanagement is sort of neat at the moment but I can see this getting aggravating.  Manage your weight, manage your stamina, manage all of the cores, keep your horse clean. Plus, the controls are clunky at times.

Four hours into it and I feel like I’m still in a tutorial.  I’ve hunted bear, became a bounty hunter and robbed a train.  It’s really opening up.

The detail of this game is insane. Yeah most detailed beautiful game ever made. So after the first chapter the game opens and you get to visit some towns, it has shenmue level detail in a giant open world. I am in awe of every store, npcs living their life, the way the world interacts with your character. It's the ultimate Wild West sim.

It's still a rockstar game so the best moments are just random crazy shit that happens in the world. Controls aren't still clunky, shooting isn't the best but the way everything reacts is top notch.

I love the side missions.  Being a debt collector is great, but I do feel a little sorry for some of these people.  I also spotted some shady business in the back of the doctor’s office.  I robbed them all and killed the bandits.

I spend hours just hunting, playing poker, just doing random shit. The game is mindblowing, a new standard for open world games. Just the entire animal AI system alone puts many games to shame. They will hunt, kill, nest, all on their own. I killed a raccoon left it's body and later a giant eagle landed on the ground to eat that raccoon, easy kill for me.

Cinematic view is so cool.  It’s the best way to travel.  Has anyone been fishing yet?  I can’t seem to find a pole.

I made it to chapter 3.  I finished the Jack Hill Gang treasure hunt.  The best part was in the middle of the hunt, I found a derailed train and found even more treasure.

I think we all have a glitch where the marsdens don't show up in camp. So the kid doesn't show you how to fish.

So the game broke my heart then pissed me off during the same stranger mission.

......

Spoilers for the stranger side mission.

........

........

Ok, I ran into an old man who was sleeping in Rhodes.  He told me how he lost everything, his job, his house, his family.  The bank owned his house and he couldn’t step inside.  He wanted me to go to house and get his pistol, watch and ledger.  I break into the house and find two squatters there with his things.  I kill both then later discover a trap door that leads to a basement.  I go to the basement and discover shackles and beds.  After reading his ledger, it’s pretty obvious that the man is a former slaver so I did what any normal person would do.  I blew him up with a stick of dynamite.

You shouldn't be so rash in jumping to conclusions.  How can you be sure he was a slaver and not a child molester?

The things I've done, I'm not proud of but it was necessary... to stay out of jail. Some man was clearly looking for a treasure and had a map, I forgot robbing him was an option, I just shot him in the face and took the map. I've tied a guy and left him on the train tracks just to scare them, as the train came I cut him loose but he panicked and ran toward the train and was killed lol.

I've killed a parade of people that keep witnessing my last kill, so I kill them, then another comes, I kill them. Stop witnessing me!!!

That said I have helped plenty of people, many times by killing other people... ok I'm a psycho murderer.
