It's not extremely hard (yet) and I am playing on HARD...
This is one of those games where difficulty doesn't even matter...
It's nearly impossible to describe --BUT-- There's a rhythm and grace to the battles that just makes it a joy to play!
Ever play Mario Galaxy and just marvel at Mario simply running around, jumping, flipping, sliding and vaulting...? Yeah. Same thing here!
It's not the most complex gameplay system ever. You have three hit combos, can deflect enemy shurikens and projectiles, you can juggle, backflip attack, etc... but it JUST. WORKS.
I'm not going to say 'just play it for the graphics' even though I easily could. There's just a simple, throwback, classic ELEGANCE to the gameplay that makes this old-school gamer's heart GLAD.
NO better way to describe it!

Okay, well I had it pre-ordered because of the graphics, so I'll take your word for it and go ahead and get it (despite the lack of $$).
Just WAIT until you see how this scrolls in a semi-circular manner. Simple, yet mind-blowing effect!
The use of color here reminds me of a perfect Fall day.
Watch for the rotating world effect at 1:17!
It's no substitute for seeing it on your own TV, but MY. GOD!
How can it be the best looking 2d game when it isn't even HD?
Real hardcore gamers play Shadow Complex! Casual.

Odin Sphere does have iffy gameplay, but I still love the game. I also love GrimGrimoire, which is my favorite of Kamitani's games. GrimGrimoire sold like crap in Japan and the US, but it was awesome. Such an overlooked game.
I hope Muramasa does well.
By the way Leo, have you experienced any slowdowns in Muramasa? That's what killed Odin Sphere. I wonder if the Wii's power solves the slowdown issues.

Well if that's what they're going to do I'm going to wait and get that version as well.

Yes brilliant. If the game does not sell, what do you do? Make a more expensive version. Yeah that will work.
How to make a quality immersive action game (a totally original idea by Phantom_Leo!)
Playing so many games this gen I am starting to see new trends. With these amazing graphics gaming is getting more and more immersive, some games creating these settings that I feel will be remembered for a long time in gaming history. Some games seem to have taken a certain template and used it, with it I am convinced that even you can make am immersive quality action game (if you had money, and could program, and had huge dev team working for you.)
Step 1: Choose one large location that is isolated from the rest of the world. Make sure it's a location that is interesting enough to hold an entire game.
For example: Japan* in Muramasa: The Demon Blade
*Because, really, how many centuries was Japan isolated from the rest of the world?
Step 2: The game should progress as you move from one section of the location to another, this allows for good pacing as you never get bored of the one setting.
Example: The Many Environs of Muramasa: The Demon Blade
*From the tree-tops of a forest...
*...to the tumultuous, raging seas!
Step 3: Your hero should slowly upgrade his powers or ability throughout the game.
Example: The 108 Blades you can Forge in Muramasa: The Demon Blade with their unique Special Attacks --AND-- Muramasa's RPG-like Equipment and Leveling.
*They're flashy AND functional!
Step 4: Make sure the main character has been possessed by the villain and is constantly talking to him/herself.
*Converse with the locals too! After all, they're politely standing there for a reason!
*Lush, overgrown and beautiful, all of Japan is a Botanical Garden!
So follow these simple steps and even you too can have a AAA title!

Well actually since the game is done porting it over should be cheaper.
Truly, until you see this game for yourself, on your TV screen, in motion YOU. ARE. NOT. GOING. TO. BELIEVE. IT ! ! !
I have been playing and playing for the last two hours, jaw agape, not believing this is a 2009 game! It's like someone peered into my brain back in 1990 when I was envisioning what the best 2D game could ever look like, took the 2D game play from that time period and lovingly crafted Muramasa!
If the graphics alone were the entire package, they would almost be enough --BUT-- the Japanese Music and the Sword Crafting system just take it that much further. Every sword has some kind of advantage from durability to adding to your overall strength to 2D-sensible, Special Attacks!
This is ABSOLUTELY one of those games that 20 years from NOW, It would CERTAINLY be in one of my SLEEPER style topics! It's that much of a LANDMARK, BENCHMARK, UNPRECEDENTED game!!!
I (obviously) CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD ABOUT IT ! ! !
