The Castle level was the one that took me multiple tries to get through.  Like you said the zombies and grim reaper make it a lot tougher.  That being said, once you learn how to deal with the grim reaper it's not as much of a problem.  Really the best thing you can do is just charge him the second he spawns.  While he does have the one-hit-kill it takes him a minute to get going, so if you can slash him quickly enough he'll be done.  The other option is to let yourself get grabbed by zombie, and then waggle your way out right before he strikes and then you can catch him extremely vulnerable.

What I liked about the castle was I thought was the most interactive level (at least at that point of the game).  There's a fantastic gimmicks involving the long dining table and the fountain in the courtyard.

And just wait until you see the dungeon level of the castle afterwards.  Pure awesomeness and . .  . it has a giant hand.  Don't let Steel know about though, he might get too excited.

Oh, I would have beaten the boss, but the QTEs which up to this point had been 100% reliable seemed off. Firstly they started throwing random directions at you, before it was the same for each attack. And then the responsiveness was off. I died because of QTEs.

What does the fountain do? Is the hand dungeon like the zelda hand?

My favourite Bloodbath so far is without a doubt man darts. I was grinning and standing up like I was playing Wii Sports again for the first time. Other than that, the fireworks one. Golf is pretty good.

You have to impale a guy on all 5 or 6 points of the fountain (I forget how many now).  Once you do it, blood starts flowing in it like water.

The hand monster is nothing like the ones in Zelda.  It's actually the Bloodbath challenge and it's pretty funny what it does.  I won't spoil it.

That dining table gag was pretty cool. Can you do it more than once though?

Also, if zombies can only be killed by splicing, how do you kill them apart from the chainsaw? Rosebush? Grinding spikes? Anything more inventive?

If you cut them horizontally (as opposed to vertically which will kill them) you can stomp on their heads which will also effectively kill them.

Yeah did that. Why wont the killing finishers work though, the chainsaw ones in particular. The only option seems to be the throw spin.

I preordered and didn't get crap.  Though the employees at Gamespot are friends so they gave me one of their old "Preorder MadWorld Today" buttons.

To date the best preorder bonus I ever got was sadly for Raving Rabbids TV Party.  They included a pretty cool black Rabbids beanie.  There was a big fight in my house over who got it (mainly between the boy and my wife).

right so i played the game yesterday for the first time.  got up to the second level in the asia town district, with the ninjas and the geishas.  my first impressions are totally meh... what was the fuss about again?

just kiddin' this game is fuckin' amazing!  i am totally loving it.  i love the gameplay, i love the humour, i love the art, i love everything about this game so far!!  the action is so much fun and so satisfyin i could play it forever and never worry about going to the next challenge if it wasn't for the time limit.  oh yeah the time limit is probably the only thing i dislike about this game.  i don't like to be rushed, i want to take my sweet time maming, impaling and beheading to my heart's content.

this game is the real deal.  i have so much respect for Platinum Games for doing this, for going all out and developing such a completely awesome and fresh experience on the Wii (while essentially a beat em up at heart it is so well done and so unique that it feels totally original to me).  so courageous of them to just follow their vision though and present this labour of love to us gamers.  of course the price of that will unfortunately be commercial failure but rarely was true greatness understood, welcomed or made successful at first calling.  i am sure the handful of gamers lucky enough not to miss out on this and i personally will forever cherish this game.  i'm already in love with this game even though i feel i've barely scratched the surface and there is a lot more awesomeness to come.

seriously sega just went so much higher in my estimation on account of this game and to a lesser extend house of the dead.  yes house of the dead is awesome and is great fun but this here is the real deal.  this here has got the awesome, satisfying gameplay on top of the high production values, the killer style and the humour.  i cannot give this game a high enough recommendation.  it's such a beautiful game on so many levels, everyone with a wii should play this game, anyone without should borrow one just to play this game.  if you're a gamer you owe it to yourself.

Yeah bugs its pretty awesome but personally I didn't like the first varrigan city level. Asia town is the best so far. I need to beat the castle. Zombies? They mix things up. Man darts is hilarious though.

my buddies wanted to do another get-together today for beer, pizza and house of the dead after last saturday, but today i'm going to introduce them to this baby as well (technically one of them has seen it because he's who i played this with on wednesday, and has since ordered it).  another guy is a painter/graphic/video artist and i think he will just fall madly in love with the artstyle and the look of the game.  after playing overkill last week he said that he would have bought a wii if he didn't have his sister's wedding coming up (family weddings are very very costly affairs over here).

will tell you what their impressions were tonight

by the way i loved this game right from the tutorial ... if you guys say it keeps getting better and better i can't wait to see what's in store for me!

Sounds like fun times. Wish my friends were into hanging out gaming and stuffing our faces with pizza.

So I got to the dungeon boss. Boss is cool. Not sure how to effectively beat him though.

Not a fan of the actual level though. After replaying the castle level I got to work out how to beat the reaper. The zombies always rush you though which forces you to camp out at kill points. It was fun killing that boss.

I think this is a game which gets better when you replay the levels and explore what all the environment features do.

The dungeon level is eh, okay. Maybe I need a second playthrough to get it. One thing I dont like is that Asia town felt like a proper level, you were progressing. The other levels are more like arenas where you just slaughter. All the levels should be like Asian town, rather than just racking up kills for points. That makes it feel like a slugfest.

You'll like the 4th level then. The first chapter of it is a motorcyle level (much better than the first one)  Then the second chapter is the traditional beat'em up level, but it does have more of a level feel to it as you progress from one area to another.  Eventually you'll be running around the whole damned thing (the 3rd stage in it was particularly brutal) once you've traversed around the whole area and you'll need it too.  I won't spoil it, but here are mini-bosses in this level that make the grim reaper from the Castle look like a girl scout with a skinned knee.  These guys are rough as hell.

How many levels are there post Dungeon and how many sections per level? Any tips on beating Frank?

There are two more levels after the Dungeon.  The next one consists of: 1 motorcycle level, 1 standard brawling with everyone level, and 1 boss-fight only level.  Then the final level consists of:  1 standard brawling with everyone level (the most interactive environment of them all), 1 mini-boss boss-run level (best way I can describe it), and 1 boss-fight only level.

As far as beating Frank, my first suggestion is to lift up your skirt and find your balls.  If you want something more constructive, here's a few tips.

  1. First of all stay on the platforms as much as you can and hit and run.
  2. If you fall down into the water run to the stairs as quick as possible. You can fight him in the water but he can do a lot more damage to you real quickly than you can do to him.
  3. If he goes to charge himself back up in the chair slash at him legs and don't let up.  If you have a chainsaw at full power you can prevent him from regaining more than just a little health.
  4. Try to initiate the power struggles on him as quick as possible.  He loses more health during those than most of the other bosses and his are pretty easy to do.
