Check out this thread on gaf http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=371433

Its magical. It has a list of a ton of side scrolling adventure games like Metroid, Castlevania, Wonderboy and a ton of games I never heard of.

I want to play them all. So Leo i assume you are far more familiar with these games than me, which stand out.

This looks like Zelda:

Golvellius I & II (1987 MSX, Sega Master System)
by Compile

Screens

(Slasher, Fantasy, TopDown)

Why dont we get this Wonder Boy spinoff?!?!

Monster World IV (1994 Mega Drive)
by Sega and Westone

Screens

(Metroid-style, Slasher, Fantasy, Platforming)

That looks awesome. But this is the most beautiful one

Wow. I want these games.

So Cave Story is free on PC but will come out on Wii soon to buy... any reason other than being comfortable on in my room that I should get the Wii version.

I never played Blaster Master, I suck. The rest on your list do look awesome.

C'mon, Vader! Almost all, if not ALL, of these games were mentioned in my Virtual Console Giga-Topic already! With the exception of the Japanese WonderBoy (Girl) game, I have played them all!

Golvellius I & II

Does look a lot like Zelda. Maybe the funky title killed it from being popular.

Your thread is spread across so many pages, hard to keep track. I was sure you covered all this which is why I like you here. Which are the absolute best, I guess only a few are actually on the VC, like Actraiser which I still need to try.

I swear soon I wil just emulate these games, so sue me.

The guy who did Cave Story is redoing the pixel-art for the Wiiware version. There is plenty of news posted here about it. Just search Cave Story.

Took me long enough to 100% it. And it had multiple endings!

There were three of four of 'em.

I know of at least one for Gameboy (maybe two), One for the NES and one for the SNES.

This was a long time ago, but the GameBoy one was more RPG-ish with action kinda thrown in there, the NES expanded on the action of the GB and the SNES went all out, being the most Metroidian of all 3.

Firebrand could take on different forms in the SNES one: Aquatic, Spike Breaking and Statue Smashing, a Heaven form... etc.

It was cool and demonic with pretty impressive bosses, but again: very short-lived.

Capcom should REALLY compete with Konami and bring new versions of this series to the DS and give Metroid-vania a run for it's money!

Because people never brought the game. It even had negative sales, because more people were returning the game than buying new copies!

A complete failure it was! Please release it on the VC Capcom!

LOL That bad of sales huh. Looking at that thread I realize that the VC is a faliure right now. It started off excellent, with the promise of being the retro gaming mecca but then it stopped. Screw you VC.

Absolutely, it could find a good home on the DS, hell or even WiiWare/PSN/Live.
