When has enemies ever been around NPCs in a Zelda game where it was not totally scripted. Obviously this is concept but hopefully it will be like that in the game. In the middle you will see a few more farms, one with a well. There is a path leading to a ramp, nice place to jump off of. Oh look behind a cliff there are rooftops, there is a small village down there! There is some tree village off to the right, ewoks maybe .
I love the lion king rock there. There is a volcano way in the distance. There is a crystal palace way in the back. There is a moutain with a gap that probably has a huge waterfall. Epic looking hyrule. I cannot wait to see the puzzles and secrets hidden all over the world. If they can make the enemy encounters interesting all over the world as this video showed it could be amazing. It also needs some great side quests.
No one explicitly said that that was Hyrule.
Also, if the trailer was anything more than just concept, I refuse to believe that it portrays a random encounter. There is way too much collateral damage to the environment. You can't have random encounters in an overworld with that level of destruction to the landscape. Hyrule would turn into a barren wasteland before the game would end.

And when have you ever seen a boss battle randomly appear out of no where, could be cool. And I am sure the damage lasts a small amount of time then goes away.
Of course it is Hyrule.

And I'll close my eyes to fallen foe's magically fading into nothingness, but blown up bridges mending themselves? I don't believe Nintendo would allow for something like that.
The more I see it, the more pumped up I am about this game.
Everything about it is just perfect so far. Like I said I have been wanting Nintendo to go in this more open world direction with Zelda since I played Elder Scrolls 3 on the Xbox, because many places in that game reminded me of Zelda. I remember thinking "how incredible would Zelda be designed in this way?" and now its happening. This is the perfect franchise for Nintendo to do a more open game...making Zelda less linear and opening things up will bring it back to its action-RPG roots and allow the series to really grow, which is great because it was starting to get a bit stale honestly. I remember the original Zelda had a feeling of wow I can go anywhere this is amazing, I wonder where this direction will take me.....now that feeling is going to come back.
Miyamoto had mentioned one time how Ocarina of Time was an open world game before GTA 3....I always thought that was funny. It was true in a way, though Ocarina has really limited freedom for an open world. The new Zelda should really be able to evolve that idea, and I'd love to see Zelda become Nintendo's answer to the genre.
Also, the graphic style is awesome. I always thought the idea of cel shaded graphics was great, but that Wind Waker just used them in a way that was too lighthearted or "kiddy" for Zelda. This game's art style is fucking perfect...cel shaded with an edge. Skyward Sword went in this direction too, but this looks so much better.
Well, with this and Xenoblade 2 coming out next year its safe to assume 2015 will be the Wii U's best year by a long shot, regardless of what else comes out on the console.
That IGN video is hilarious. 13 minutes of stating the obvious about a 30 second trailer, and restating almost verbatim 2 and a half minutes of PR...well, maybe not because I couldn't actually make it very far into the video.
Awesome thread, I hope you dont have to pull back the stick to fire arrows like Nintendoland. Gyro aiming is cool though.
Wow! What if it really isn't Link but a new hero?! Link shows up later or there is ...gasp...co-op? I absolutely love the look of Hyrule. No flat grasslands, life everywhere. Notice not only the mountains, but the volcano (Death Mountain?) and of course the possible waterfall. I love how the farmers and birds scatter when the tentacled creature arrives. The hero's. Look and choice of weapon are intriguing.
Yes, I really do hope this is similar to Skyrim, tons of secret areas to explore, hidden dungeons and caves. I actually want stat building. It doesn't have to be anywhere near as deep as a regular RPG, but wouldn't it be neat if you can choose to focus on magic or weaponry?
I also want to note that the speed of the chase was also something we've never really seen in a Zelda game. The lighting of the fire and explosions just seemed so dynamic. That really was a wow moment for me.
Yes, but not like I saw yesterday. I'm sure the art style plays a big part of it looking so good.
I really love the look of this game. It's similar to Twilight Princess in character, but it's so wonderfully cell-shaded ... it just looks beautiful

I would not be a fan of this. Focusing on one or the other forces the design to be open. Zelda is about strict design, I want enemies that have to be defeated with a certain attack. In other games enemies are just damage sponges cause they have to be able to be attacked with various forms of attacks. But in zelda enemies can have specific defenses cause everyone in the game has the same tools so the puzzle becomes figuring out what to use to beat them. Same with bosses/etc.
Surely there could be some sort of middle ground. You have your main dungeons that are Zelda dungeons in the strictest sense, complete with finding that one item to defeat the boss. But perhaps there are tons of others that you discover that hold coins or a piece of the heart. Maybe they hold treasure pieces that you can sell. Maybe some can be accessed from the start or maybe you need a grapple hook, perhaps a bomb to progress. Those are the caves with minibosses with simplistic patterns or the damage sponges. Maybe these caves/dungeons are the areas where you use the environment in cool ways to kill an enemy. I just want to see them break from the stagnant Zelda mold. Allow you to go anywhere right from the start, just like Aunoma said.
Did they mention that the shirt the character is wearing is the Outset Island shirt Link wore in the beginning of Wind Waker.

Every open world does this. I just blew up half of chicago in Watch Dogs, a leave the area and come back and everything is perfect again.

Your argument is irrelevant to what I said, being that I don't think Nintendo would find something like that acceptable. I'd find it easier to believe that only certain (mini)bosses would be able to wreak havoc on the landscape, and said damage would be permanent. I hope I'm not proven wrong.
IGN posted this amazing video detailinng every tiny thing they could spot in the trailer. Go watch it.
Aonuma just said “No one explicitly said that that was Link.” Which means it could be possible that is a female. But I doubt it, that is Link.
So this Link has no sword. If you watched the video you would see that. The video focused all on the bow which had new arrows. The bomb ones and that crazy last one. Looks like it has a rev up feature, wonder if you have to time a buttom press to get max damage or something. So what if the bow focus is cause of the gamepad? How will the gamepad be used? No sword in the trailer probably means no wii controls, back to the old sword attacks. I am thinking aiming with the pad or something. Obviously some items will make use of them. Link had all sorts of strange stuff on that horse.
The world looked incredibly detailed and you can see stuff in the back.
