Just wondering.

Because there's this level and boss in Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles that was driving me crazy until I finally beat it today! The boss was Death and it was in Stage 5. I'm sure this dude is easy to people who are good with Castlevania games, but the old-school Castlevania games are extremely difficult. So I felt so proud when I finally beat this guy! It took me many tries and hours to finally memorize his patterns...and some luck.

The funny thing is, he's not the hardest boss in the game! LOL!

Anyway, what's that crowning achievement that you guys accomplished that made you feel pretty good about yourselves?

I finish so few games that each one feels like a special thing. I played Megaman 2 so much back in the day that I could beat it in one sitting, without losing a life and even without getting hit through complete stages.

Beating Zelda 2 was very nice.  Absurdly hard game, and the last Zelda game I hadn't beaten.

Beating Sekai was sore yo ai to Yobundaze at max difficulty without the rings in Ouendan 2 was probably the most ridiculously hard feat I've accomplished.

Speed running Super Mario Bros. DX (GBA version of the NES game) in under 5 minutes was also rewarding (you can transition between levels more quickly than on the NES game -- I didn't beat the world record by 10 seconds, but it was still a hell of a run).

And most recently, beating Twist and Shout in The Beatles Rock Band on expert, blindfolded was awesome.

None come to mind. I'm usually so pissed off after beating a boss I don't think harbour any positive memories of the process.

So many games ill prepare you for a boss, or break their own game rules, to lengthen a game. It's a cheap trick.

Recenly I've been proud of beating the GTA portable games, but that comes from previously thinking that it was imposible to beat any of those long-ass games.

Hm... I suppose the Final Fantasy bosses, or the Dragon Quest ones... Yeah, you're thinking, "That is an RPG. It HAS to be the easiest thing in the world to beat." But basically, that's all I play.
Currently awaiting the new Opeth album, and Dragon Quest VI for the DS.

I remember diving headfirst into Omega Weapon when playinf FFVIII. It kicked my balls in so many different ways that I just went back and finished the game. LOL

Never beat Ruby/Emerald weapons in FFVII either.

Are there weapons in FFX? I started it not too long ago.

Welcome, BTW. Hope you enjoy the joint and your stay is long and prosperous. Just beware of an english gentleman that answers to the name of "gamingeek". He has some weird fetishes involving newcomers.

Completing Halo 3 on Legendary, though easier than I thought it would be, felt rewarding.

I was also rather proud of myself when I earned the "Unbreakable" achievement in L4D for not being healed for an entire campaign. I got "Man vs Tank" through luck, but it'd still be arguable to say I didn't earn it.

Shadowrun is the only game I've gone out of my way to try and get all the achievements for. Some I take pride in:

Master Thief (25AP) Deliver the Artifact untouched despite heavy defense.
Unstoppable (50AP) Kill ten enemies in a row without being killed.
Zombie Scores! (20AP) Deliver the Artifact while bleeding out
Godlike (25AP) Kill all opposing players on other team without taking damage (at least 6 enemies).
Master Ninja (100AP) Inflict one hundred mortal wounds with the Katana.

i never associated the feeling of pride with gaming because for me it has always been the opposite.  gaming has always been a guilty pleasure.  i guess it stems from years and years of disapproving parents never missing an opportunity to remind me of how i was wasting my money and time with "that nonsense".  so this feeling of guilt is deeply ingrained and i carry it with me still.  very rarely am i playing a game when i'm not thinking i ought to be working or studying instead.

but that was a side-note.  a few times i sensed achievement related to gaming are the following:

1.  Winning first place in the monthly high-score contest on Wonder Boy at my local arcade.
2.  Winning first place in the monthly high-score contest on Juju at my local arcade.
3.  Beating Super Mario Bros. without losing a single life and without using warp pipes
4.  Beating Shinobi (the old arcade side scrawler) without losing a life or using the super power button
5.  Playing Wonder Boy in Monster Land at my university hall of residence (on Mame) in front of an audience (more than 10 years after i'd last played it as a child) and remembering the way through the final level maze to beat the game (as well as getting the ruby by finding every secret door)
6.  Beating "Ready Steady Go" in Ouendan on insane difficulty
and most recently ...
7.  Beating Lucia tha table-tennis biatch in Wii Sports Resort

I've beaten the PS2 Shinobi. Granted, it was on Easy, but even then, the game is still mostly fucking ridiculous (SUDDENLY, BOTTOMLESS PITS, EVERWHERE).

I've beaten Street Fighter Alpha 3 on max difficulty. Took me an HOUR to do it, with half of that going to Bison. Bloody annoying boss too, and anyone who's played it knows why.

I beat Emperor Ing in Metroid Prime 2 once.  I'll probably never be able to do that again.

Emperor Ing is peanuts compared to Dark Samus in Prime 3 on Hyper difficulty.

Yeah Dark Samus was hard but I would hardly put that up on the level of some of the hardest bosses I ever fought. I think I had a harder time with Metroid Prime on hard.

There was a hard boss battle in PRime 3?!

then again the game wasn't worth playing through again on the hard difficulty that should've been available from the start.
