Okay my horror panel is officially good to go. I've got 30 to 45 minutes to cover the subject so I'm not going to be able to spend too much time on any one thing. Here's my list thus far. I'm not going to spend too much time on invididual games, unless they had a huge impact, were very controversial, or are so ridiculous they deserve mention. Here's the early outline. The ones in bold are the subjects that I'm going to spend a little time on:

Haunted House - Magnavox Oddessy (credited with being the first horror game)

Haunted House - Atari 2600 (not the same as the Oddessy game, just the same name)

Mac Adventures - Shadowgate, Univited

Maniac Mansion

Assortment of NES games

Chiller (ridiculously violent arcade and unlicensed NES game)

Assortment of SNES & Genesis games - Splatter House

More PC Games - Gabrielle Knight and Phantasmagora

Resident Evil and the advent of the Suvival Horror genre

Eternal Darkness and assortment of PS2, GC, and Xbox games.

RE4 and the decline of Survival Horror

Manhunt 2

Wii games - Current home of horror games

If anyone has something else they think is really important to mention let me know.

I assume you will cover all the main games in those assortment areas. Silent Hill and Resident Evil provide a nice contrast to each other especially in the directions they took. Don't forget Alone in the Dark.

I'll touch on that the games existed, show off the box art, and maybe explain the gameplay, but I won't spend much more time on them than that unless there's one in particular that you think is exception in the series.  RE was never my kind of game so I'll admit I'm unfamiliar with most of the series, with the original and RE4 as exceptions.

Generally people love SH2. Its considered to many to be THE psychological horror game with one of the best stories in gaming. I found it to be a bit boring and liked the original more. As for RE, RE2 was another masterpiece  but after that they all sort of followed the same formula until RE4, so you have the important games covered.

Its a lot to cover in 30 minutes or so, I don't know how you will so it. I could talk RE alone for 30 minutes.

i am a huge horror fan  the old re games before capcom ruined them with re4 and 5 were the best and at once point capcom were the kings of horror with re and clock tower, hunting grounds, dino crises games sure silent hill 1 and 2 were good but after that the series degraded  shattered memories did a great job in reviving the series  added great gameplay like personilty changes from the clothes the guy wares to how enemies look and behave different buildings and how npcs look  and even the ending, i feel like sm is  one of the best silent games
at this time oddly enough the wii seem to be the leading system for horror games

Now that you're in it's time to scrap the horror all together and mercilessly promote both your company, and the games it has on its roster!

Manhunt 2 was a f-ing travesty. How it got censored in europe and the US was a sad day in gaming IMO. Such BS.

Yeah I don't think that would work so well. My company has two games that we're in talks to promote. One is a web based mob game (not Mafia Wars) and the other is a still nameless RPG.

I like the name "Nameless RPG".

Well, it sounds like you are doing an introduction of horror gaming which is entirely appropriate.

I'd encourage you to read the wiki page and view a youtube on Rule of Rose.  It's very distinct, and as a bonus for the purposes of your talk is also controversial.  Very disturbing game with incredible art.

I stopped playing it because I was nauseated by it (but that may have been the beer).

Mentions of Phantasmagoria? Nice pick. Make sure you get some video of the deaths, to help show off how horror it can be.

BUT NOT THE SEQUEL.

Yeah Puzzle of the Flesh was a god awful game. I made the mistake of recommending that to an old girlfriend of mine who I was trying to convert into a gamer.  Whoops.  It still worked out though as she became a huge fan of Kirby and his games.

This story does have an unhappy ending though as the bitch never gave me back my NES and SNES and all the games I had with them, which I had (against my better judgement) left in her apartment since I was busy with the PSX and N64.  Still two systems and 2 dozen games was a small price to pay for getting away from that bitch.

Sadly this game was refused release in the UK and never got to play it.  In fact I think it only got released in France and maybe a few other places in Europe

Most are just going to be a quick mention and then have the box art shown off.  Only the 2 Haunted House games, Sweet Home, Phantasmagoria, Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, and Manhunt 2, and Limbo are going to have more than 1 minutes spent on them.
