I was shocked by the GS review.

TODAY! It came today!

I just got GTA and Madworld in the mail a day early. Madworld suprisingly came with a free T-shirt. Nice.

I haven't tried Madworld yet but I played about 15 minutes of GTA and HOLY HELL it's a full GTA game on the DS.

It's the equivalent of Nintendo making a new 3-D mario platformer like mario 64, ground up for the DS. I said a while back that Mass effect could be done on the DS and this game, if anything is a resounding testament to clever game design and following through on commitment. Hell, within the first few minutes you know this is special. The cars have proper physics, there is descructible scenary. I ran into some dustbins and they bounced off a wall and realistically moved.

The driving is perfect, aside from one time where I couldn't tell my ass from my face (trunk from bonnet) and reversed into a wall. You tap A and melee, he taps out two punches and a roundhouse kick. Awesome.

Just about every feature from a modern GTA is here and more. The only thing it really lacks is speech, but the radio stations are there intact. This is awesome.

It's something of a shock to the system. Yes I know that there was a gba GTA, but even opening the box and seeing the custom GTA guidebook feels surreal. But then you boot it up and there are F-bombs all over the place, a guy gets shot in the face, they talk about fetish porno and then you see the 3-D engine.

And my eyes were popping out of my head. And the ROCKSTAR GAMES PRESENTS was on the screen. Wow, best visuals on the system, no doubt, best engine. I love it. All you could really want for is a larger cartridge and full speech.

I got this today here too because retailers don't care about street dates.  it is totally awesome, i haven't been able to put it down.  driving around just doing drug deals whilst listening to "Ticlah" is just so addictive.  i can't  believe i was sceptical about this (on account of hating gta and gtaII), it only looks a little like them but plays nothing like that.

the PDA is an awesome feature, the driving with the auto-correct is good, the drug trafficking adds a great deal, and the touch-screen mini games are fun without taking anything from it.  this is actually the first gta game i see myself completing and that says a lot i think.

it is worthy of the 9.5s it's getting

the first funny/shocking moment was when i first ran over someone and she shouted "i'm still a virgin".  i'm glad you're enjoying it.  i have all positive impressions so far as well.  the stations are very good (except the rock station) but my love of dub means i almost everytime switch to ticklah.  in the end the only complain may be the slightly frivolous plot compared to say IV (from what i read/heard).  but that does not impact the gameplay which is intact through and through and perhaps better than ever.  i think that is a triumph of its own.  this game has to do well, there need to be more gta DS  made.

Okay played a few missions.

Firstly the menus are god awful I find, too many options not well labelled enough and not even really easily navigated. And that's using a touch screen. The game doesn't do a good job walking you through the menus at all. I did switch on a cool feature in the options. Hallelujah, a GPS on the actual road with yellow arrows on the road.

Tried some combat, its more user friendly and maybe even more satisfying than GTA IV combat. The first time you run up some stairs and onto the roof, wow didn't think that would be there. Did an assasination mission, just like the other 3-d games.

The radio stations, despite the lack of vocals is just as good, really good original tracks.

But then I did this mission where they had you jumping over walls in a pursuit. Only it wasn't irritating like in past games. You could see the whole environment and easily navigate around. It's weird but it's almost like the scaling back and more arcade like nature of CW makes it more accesible, more immediate and less frustrating. And yet its retaining the same gameplay as its bigger brother. Quite the achivement.

On the other hand, now I'm feeling the lack of cutscenes and VAacting. The characters dont come across as well without it. They should have semi-animated the 2-D cutscenes like in the trailers.

Otherwise I think the reason this game is scoring so highly is because of technical achievement. It's ambitious and polished and really out there in design terms on DS. Overall I still enjoy the gameplay and games of a lot of other DS games over this, but as a technical acheivement, its pretty stunning for DS.

I've only played say, 40 minutes so far which is like 4 missions. So there is a long way to go. It's pretty badass though. If you are the person like me who has bought every GTA from 3 to IV, this should be next on your list, no doubt.

One thing I have to say, I've always shook my head when people have said: "this can't be done on this platform". I've always maintained that you can do a version, a good version of a popular franchise on hardware, that isn't as powerful.

And this game is a resounding proof of that concept. Most games, the gameplay and design can easily work on lesser hardware if you are clever about it and committed.

I got it today, but I've only played like 15 minutes and gotten to Uncle Kenny's/My first apartment. I suck balls at driving.

I've been busy being entertained by WiiFit! My fitness age is 35, my dad's is 65 Nyaa. My sister is 18 somehow... great balance I guess. I kick ass at hula hooping even though I look like a total fag. 299 rotations, bitches.

Oh, and I'm obese Sad

Really? In around 30 minutes, I finished off the first set of missions.

I'm really, really impressed with it. To me, this is what GTA 3 would have been like if it had skipped a generation and stayed as a 2D game.

That's far far more revolutions than I can do on the hula hooping.  I'm sure you'd make a fine male stripper.

18?

Wouldn't the peak fitness age be mid to late 20s rather than alte teens?

Me too, the more I play the more I appreciate it. I went over some ramps too just like a regular GTA. They have fit just about the whole design of a full GTA game into this. I tried bikes, same old floaty different handling.

I'm playing the drug trades. Damn this is addictive and a lot simpler than I thought it would be. Toilet time will never be the same.
