Why don't gaming companies release game soundtracks like movie soundtracks?  Gaming is huge business, even bigger than the music and movie business combined.  But you can never find a game soundtrack here in the states.

I can go to Best Buy and find an aisle of just movie and TV music, but I have to order from some guy in Korea off of ebay just to get a MGS3 soundtrack.  I don't want to talk about the illegal ways that I got the Mario Galaxy soundtrack.   And when MGS4 was released, with an iPod in the game, I thought "That's wonderful.  Surely the soundtrack will be on iTunes."  No such luck.

These companies need to wake up.

I think it's just a matter of there hasn't been enough time for it to have been established.  It wasn't long ago that CD quality audio wasn't being used in games; I think it's just need one breakthrough success to get the ball rolling.

I agree totally. I would much rather enjoy paying for some game music than having to go to an effort to find a good source of free MP3's.

While we're on topic, can someone get Square's e-mail address so I can ask them to release their stuff onto the Australian iTunes store? I mean, it's good to have all the C&C soundtracks and others...but I'd like some FF also.

They do. But you have to spend $300 on importing them from Japan...

Yeah Travo I feel your pain. This is ass. In Japan every game has this CD release, symphonic reproductions and interpretations. I'm amazed sometimes at what I see out there, a full orchestra rendition of Phoenix Wright music? You can import but it's usually extortionate.

I hear there is a site called galbaldia hotel with a ton of music downloads of games. I would rather buy CDs though. Or even, have soundtracks bundled as CDs with the game itself. Rather than these limited editions with tin boxes and postcards or making of books, just have a CD soundtrack.

This is true. This is making me pissed.

Sound Test.org is good, you can download the full albums for free...but there's a small amount. Then there's KH Insider...which has a lot of stuff...but it's all unavailable.

The new Prince of Persia came with a bonus disc with the soundtrack included.  I haven't tried it in a regular CD player yet, but that's what other gaming companies need to do.  The music is awesome BTW.

Nintendo could release a compilation of all their big themes for NA:  SMB, Metroid, Zelda

They'd make a killing.

Anything before 2000 is MIDI anyway. Just search Google for "MIDI" and the name of the game or level. ie. "super mario bros overworld theme midi"

Or go to a site like www.vgmusic.com which has OVER 9000 game songs and remixes made by fans (Over 27,000 actually).

I'm pretty sure Koji Kondo does have a CD with actual Nintendo orchestra music on it.

OR just go on Youtube and look up the name of the game and the words "acoustic" or "piano" or "cover"

Or go here

to download the Metroid Prime 3 soundtrack

P.S. the soundtrack is never released, so it is not illegal.

No.

There are some HMV stores throughout Canada and the US. They have a video games section. A lot of music stores let you order music through them, but I imagine they normally don't import soundtracks because of cost, and because there actually isn't a high demand for it outside of popular games like Halo. It's like I have to order most of the metal I buy, because it isn't flying off the shelves like your average Nirvana album.

No, it just came with the game.

There is a mario and zelda big band album out as well as a jazz album of super mario world music. Crazy stuff.
