The buds work fine, from personal experience!

3DS: I would recommend Etrian Odyssey: Legends of the Titan, if you like old-school dungeon crawlers. It's tough for beginners, but easier than the DS versions. If you get it, let me know and I'll give you a few tips!
DS: Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. I'd also recommend Radiant Historia, the Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivors or SMT: Strange Journey. Be warned though, Devil Survivor 1 is already out for the 3DS too, and 2 is coming soon.
Shin Megami Tensei IV is coming in July for the 3DS as well, and I can already say it will be TOTALLY worth it!
I hope you like the XL better than I do, Edge. I've had mine since January, and I still can't comfortably play the damn thing due to its weight and awkward design. There's tons of awesome games for it, though. If you enjoy reading, give the Phoenix Wright series, 999, and Virtue's Last Reward (the direct sequel to 999) a try. They're awesome.
I'd stick with the DS games you already have coming, those will keep you busy for a while. I especially enjoyed Chinatown and TWEWY.
Those are some damn fine games you got. You can try Paper Mario, Rhythm Heaven FF game seems awesome. I have yet to try Layton but I hear they are great. Despite it being the same thing NSMB2 is still a good game.
I'm not gonna grab anymore games for a long while for it besides the 4 I have, but I just want an idea on what I should look for in the future. Thanks fellas.
The Phoenix Wright series is really awesome if you never played any of those. The new Fire Emblem is supposed to awesome, I have it on my to play pile but Leo says it is really good.
If you like SNES type JRPGs, you'll be like a kid in a candystore. The DS built up a massive collection of great ones (some new, some rereleased/remade) and the 3DS is slowly working its way there.
There are those that Leo mentioned and plenty more like Golden Sun, Dragon Quest: IV, V, VI, Joker, Rocket Slime, Chrono Trigger, Pokemon Black/White etc
What's the Cing hotel game called again? GG and I can both vouch for that. Obviously it's a DS game, but I think you'd enjoy it; especially the main character's...character.
Hotel Dusk? Yeah that was great.
There's also Another Code (or another memory or something.)
And the sequel to Hotel Dusk which got a sort of half-assed release after they shut the studio down. I need to look up the name.
edit: Last Window: The Secret of Cape West. I forgot that I wanted to play that.
Yup, that's the one. Still the only DS game I've finished, I think.
Edge what are your impressions so far?
Also, how long has it been since you owned a handheld? What made you dive into the 3DS and not other handhelds over the years?

I think he hasn't actually bought it yet. Just started building up a library for when they release a colour he likes.
LOL yeah I am trying to hold off until they releease a normal color, but its gonna be tough if I have to wait months.
I basically just decided to get one because I like the big screen & the idea of the 3D effect, and the fact that handhelds are much more impressive gaming machines nowadays. Also, one of the things I liked about the Wii U was being able to play in bed if I'm too tired to game at the TV...though most of the games I want to play on the U require both screens, or I just prefer playing them on the TV. So the 3DS is the better choice for that.
The DS line also has a very impressive lineup of RPG's and other games that you don't normally see on the consoles.
So yeah, I'm going to be getting a 3DS xl. Should be nice to play in bed before falling asleep when I don't feel like sitting in front of the TV.
So what are the best games I should be picking up between DS and 3DS in the RPG and Adventure genres? That's mainly what I'm interested in on this handheld. I already have Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The World Ends With You, Fire Emblem Awakening, and GTA Chinatown Wars on the way. Also, I definitely want to play using headphones...was thinking about just using my iPod earbuds. Will those do the job? Or do I need something else?
