Bought from where?
Played some more last night. Love the dynamic camera during battle.

Bought from where?
The DQVC Channel. In the central city of the game (I think it's Stornway... been a long time since I've played it), there's a pub that has a special shop. Everyday the shop changes its' inventory. Some weeks they'll have themes. For instance one week was Royalty Week and they had some very hard to find armor like the King's Robe and things like that.
The DQVC is a great place to sort of "cheat" and it's worth checking every day. You see in DQ9 the Alchemy Pot plays a MUCH bigger role than it did in DQ8. In DQ8 you'd miss out on a lot of the better items and weapons in the game if you didn't use the alchemy pot, but you'd still have access to plenty of good equipment. In DQ9 that's not the case. If you don't spend some time using the Alchemy Pot you will be screwed. It is a key element to the success in the game.
However the DQVC Channel is the exception to all of this. The items switch up daily, and about once a week you can come across a high quality end-game type piece of armor or weapon. Even at the beginning of the game (or rather 10 - 15 hours in, which is when it becomes available) you can find a weapon that you could easily use through the final battle of the game. Whether or not you can afford it is a different matter all together. Additionally you can find other rare alchemy ingredients and plenty of mid-range equipment. Definitely one of the cooler new features in the game.
Kept playing last night. I'm doing it in short bursts to see if I can avoid cramping on my left hand. I think it's because of the way I hold the DS to move my character with the d-pad, because when I use the stylus, I don't have that much trouble.
Reached the second town in the game, shortly after finding that fairy thing. Lv 10 right now, have allocated all my skill points towards swords, and have been breezing through battles except for that one time where two dudes made me dance repeatedly and almost kick my ass.
I was too busy boogieing.
By the fourth time I was equal parts pissed off and laughing because my character wouldn't stop dancing.
FUCKING WIGHT KNIGHT! Asshole, pompous, arrogant fuck has killed me two times in a row, causing me to lose money.
BUT! I found out that in the Inn I can get people for my party. Now I roam the lands with a trio of underleveled characters, a priest, a fighter and a mage, trying to build them up to see if I can finally beat that asshole knight, which I couldn't beat on my own like a real man.

Ahhhhhhhhh...... yeah that would certainly slow up your progress. As soon as those characters are halfway leveled up I suspect the Wight Knight will be much less of a challenge.
And in other news DQM: Joker 2 is actually coming to North America. I'd completely written it off, so this is a nice surprise. Even better news is apparently it's coming August. I may celebrate this game's arrival by picking up a 3DS. We'll see. Funny how this was actually announced during E3 and I missed it. Chalk it up to information overload.
Kept chipping away at the game. A bit shy of 8 hours in, unlocked alchemy, and reached a village where everybody is ill, my ragtag party is finally at an acceptable level (11-12, with my main char being Lv 15) and having a great time with the game, something that has made me rethink my position on handheld gaming.
Uh-Oh! He's up to the Ragin' Contagion!
This is where the love affair ends...
Don't go scaring the boy! The Ragin' Contagion was not that hard.
...but he's gonna die!
A THOUSAND HORRIBLE DEATHS!
...and then DIE AGAIN!
...TWICE!
*Yeah, I think Eggie had trouble with the Contagion. I think I died once. I'm just yankin' Steel's sizeable chain!*
The fuck are you guys talking about? I haven't died again after the Wight Knight. The Raging Contagion wasn't a match for my über party. I just beat the shit out of Leviathan (he came quite close to killing me, though) and got my first fygg. I don't know if I fucked up something somewhere because when I found the place where you can change jobs the abbot wasn't there.
Oh you went the wrong direction. From the Abbey travel due east and you'll find a tower with the abbot and the single worst pun you'll come across in the game.

Now I know what you were talking about.
Changed my vocation to warrior, since I don't know what being a minstrel was good for. Which are the preferred classes in this game?
This is a tough area for me. Half of me wants to dismiss this kind of thing, the other half of me wants to buy in.
