A friend of mine visited me yesterday.  He asked if he could have the gamepad to do something on the ps3 for a minute.  I went to brew some tea, and by the time I got back my ps3 was downloading a bunch of games.  I asked what they were, if they were demos or something, he said to wait and see.

A few hours later, I ended up with a bunch of PSN games I didn't pay for.  Is this legal?  How does it work?  Is it infinite?

PS for the record the games are: PixelJunk Shooter, Critter Crunch, Shatter, Riff: Everyday Shooter and Braid.  Haven't played any of them yet but I know I don't like Braid because I tried it on PC and it made me depressed.

The important question is, how was the tea?

What kind of tea is it, how do you brew it?

Englishmen need to know these things.

For game scamming PSN downloads, Vader can answer the question.

this one was pretty simple but excellent no less.  some twinings earl grey leaves in a little stainless steel sieve.  i usually take my tea with just a tiny splash of milk and no sugars.

let's do a tea and coffee thread!

I used to like earl grey, then it became too strong. Darjeeling for me all the way. Two sugars and a teaspoon of milk.

Hey, how long can tea last anyway? I was going through my cupboard and found some I was hoarding. Does it just lose some of its flavor over time or what?

It keeps pretty well, try some.

Pepsi Max and Coke Zero for me.  Tea takes too much prep time if you spend most of the day outdoors.

Vaders knows the real deal on this one, but I think your friend cannot play them while you have them on your system so it truly is sharing more than stealing.  The real world equivalent would be your friend bringing over a bunch of his games for you to borrow.

as far as i know we can both play the games fully.  his games were not affected at all, and all games work perfectly on my system as if i had bought them myself

Well, if you can both play them at the same time, then yeah, ownership has not been transferred, so that'd be illegal.

That sounds especially tasty.

Technically, you are suppossed to keep it in airtight containers. What's nice is first shoot tea, it's like the first pick of the crop, more delicate and fresher in taste and doesn't leave any aftertaste.

First you use a dirty glass. Use stale milk that is almost turning into cheese, this is important. Then you re-use an old bag that has been sitting near the bin for 3 days. You boil this bag and mix it with the milk and water. Then you eat a bacon buttie and scratch your ass crack.

This ends the English tea ceremony.

Bah, no sugar, artificial sweetener soft drinks? Why not just have juice or dilute?

Pepsi Max is still around?  I don't think I've seen it in Canada since the year it was introduced.

EDIT: Checked Wikipedia,

"Beginning in early 1994, an entirely different Pepsi Max was marketed in Canada. Now regarded as a precursor to Pepsi Edge, it was sweetened with a combination of aspartame and high fructose corn syrup. As a result, it contained 2/3 fewer calories than full-sugar colas (including regular Pepsi), but more calories than conventional diet/light colas (or the version of Pepsi Max sold elsewhere). The Canadian product was discontinued in 2002; the Diet Pepsi Max product introduced in 2008 has no direct relationship to the earlier formulation."

Tea...

Anyway it's legal cause Sony screwed up, oh well. They are trying to find ways to slow it down but they left the door open, they know about it, they commented on it and they dont like it but its allowed. No one will ban you, no one will do anything to your account.

What happens is your account could be shared with up to 5 different PS3s (now 3 due to the changes). This was their way of protecting you if your PS3 died, you just sign into your new PS3 with your old account and redownload everything. Of course people took advantage of this and began to share their PSN accounts with their friends thus inventing friend sharing. What you do is log into your account on someone elses PS3, from there go to your account menu, go to download list and you can download everything you have paid for onto that other PS3. When you are done you can log out and the PS3 owner can log into their account and use all those games cause it is on the HDD. Now they must have your account on their PS3 for the games to work, that means you lose an account slot, so from 5 down to 4. You can get your slot back if they deactivate your account from their system, they cant play the games anymore.

Yes you can play on the games at the same time, play online together, whatever, its your game now. Only a few games have a lock and those are the online only games like Warhawk and I think GT Prologue had one too. Those only one person can play at a time, I dont even think you can download GT Prologue on another PS3.

So enjoy sharing games with your friend, pretend it is like the old days when you used to lend out games to each other. Don't forget to pay him back by letting him download any games you buy. Split the cost on games you are not sure of.

Your friend is a filthy pirate and you should immediately disown him.

Children, our lives have been gongs striking; clamour and boasting; cries of despair; blows on the nape of the neck in gardens.

thank you vader, i understand it now.  it's perfectly fair and legit and it makes sense.  the same way i could download all my Steam account games from any given computer it can be done on the PS3 except it's limited in how many times you can do it.

that's cool so effectively me and another 3 people could split the cost of ps3 games four ways if we shared them.  wonderful!

it's only a pain that the only way i can buy PSN stuff is with a points card the PSN is not officially available in this country

sure, i will.  i haven't bought any games as of yet, but whatever i get, you get.  my first points card will most probably go on bionic commando rearmed (played the demo and loved the music) and possibly the street fighter II HD edition but i will try to resist that for something different

I primarily want to get myself a copy of Flower.  Played that with a friend and that was just cool. It was a niche gamer's wet dream.
