From the week beginning October 17th, this gets released all over the world on the PS3/360. The PC version hits next month, and will use GFW Live as its DRM. The Wii U version the next year:

What is it? Well...it's kinda like this:

Now picture it as a slightly more open world. With MORE. More Batman characters, more Riddler challenges, more story, more everything that made that game awesome.

Never played it? Well, here's your chance.

Get a 360 Games On Demand version.

Get a PC Games on Demand version (requires GFW Live)

Get the PC version, except on Steam. Still requires GFW.

I haven't got time to play through the whole game! Is there a quicker way to catch up on Arkham City's backstory?

Well, you could read up on it on Wikipedia or other sites. However, DC put out a six issue mini-series that serves as backstory for Arkham City. I'd peruse your local comic shops if you're intrigued. If there isn't a local comic shop near you, Comixology is your best bet. Though if you pre-ordered the game from Amazon, you'll get all six issues (physical copies too!). More on that in a moment.

Want to know what the Trophies/Achievements Are? (Note there are some spoilers) Here:

PS3 Trophies (list also includes Catwoman/Preorder DLC trophies)

X360/GFW Achievements

What should I expect?

Some dude posted up him playing through the opening parts of the game. Runs for about an hour, so if you want to get a glimpse of how it all starts, take a gander.

What do I get from pre-ordering?

You'll get one or more of these costumes:

From left to right, that's Batman Beyond/Of The Future, Dark Knight Returns Batman, Batman: Earth One, 1970's Batman, The Animated Series Batman, and Arkham Asylum/City Batman. Thankfully, you won't need to pre-order to get the last costume. Most retailers are getting one or more, but you will be able to purchase them all after the game gets released. If you did pre-order, here's what you'll get from specific retailers.

What's this about Catwoman?

So, in case you haven't heard, the Catwoman subset of missions in the game are locked out until you either use the code that comes with the game (as a first buyers bonus!) or you pay WB money. Also, you apparently need to be online to use these missions.

I know this game's going to be awesome and all...but what about reviews?

As of writing (16/10/11), the game is currently sitting on a 98 (PS3) and 95 (X360) Metascore. Here's some web reviews for y'all.

My only worry is that the combat will be like the first game. I've seen some reviews saying it's better, but it seems to be built around the originals system.

Thing is, I never really minded the combat so much. What really shat me about the first game was the last moments of it, from Killer Croc to the end of the game...it never lived up to the rest of it.

I loved the game, but I felt it was a little overated. It was too short and a little too simple and automatic. Still an excellent game, just overhyped. The best part about the game was the realisation of the batman gameworld.

I didn't mind the combat but it was exceedingly simple and had this rubber band effect where Batman would auto lunge towards people.

It's not that the combat was bad, just mediocre and boring. Plus it never really tapped in the potential of the gadgets due to linear level design. (Yes I know it's open world lol.)

AA wasn't really open world and wasn't really metroid like, despite it's efforts. Maybe you could call it metroid lite beer.

Yeah, Metroid-Lite describes it well, my mistake.

So, Catwoman's been announced as the online pass for the game. Thoughts people?

I so can't wait for Tuesday!  I have it paid for and fully expect to get my money's worth. Did anyone else finish the Riddler's riddles in the first game? Definitely one of the highlights of the original.  Could this eclipse Gears 3 as my goty?  Most definitely!

I still want to co-op that with you, archie and possibly bear one day soon.  Even if it's for just a couple of chapters.

Hopefully DS will be all done in time for this but I will be out of town a lot right when I get it. Sad I dont think I will be in town on Nov1 for Uncharted 3 and Sonic either. I do have Zelda week all off though and that is all that matters.

Yeah I buy my games new too so these online pass code things don't bother me at all. I got all the Riddler puzzles from the first game. I got the two achievements for co-op in Gears 3 last night. One for playing through the whole game with 2 players and the other for playing through the whole game with 4 players. Did it in arcade mode which is a total blast.

Simple. Don't activate a code or don't pay money, you don't use the character. Also, you apparently need to be online to use Catwoman. At all times.
