Having spent three days in Florence this week and having fallen in love with the feeling of the place, I just can't wait to play this game (though i was not a fan of the first one). Having visited all the landmarks like the Medici chapels, the churches and museums, the ponte vecchio and all the other famous buildings which are all recreated in the game makes me think this will be amazing to experience

You should have played if before your holiday. And then you would walk around these locations with the urge to kill.

When I was very, very young, I was absolutely obsessed with the works of Leonardo Da Vinci. I would stare at his sketches of inventions and the human physique, and of course his paintings, for hours upon end.
My dad didn't appreciate it very much at all, actually back-handing me to the back of the head when he saw me showing particular interest in this one:
I would actually walk myself to the Library and check out arm-fulls of his art books at one time. I always felt like I was a kindred spirit to him, having dozens and dozens of different interests but not really exploring one to it's fullest. I was thrilled when my teachers used to call me a Renaissance Man and a "little Leonardo."
Dad put an end to that obsession pretty quickly, but it never left me even to this day.
I played Assassin's Creed 2 up to the part where they asked you to bring your blade to Leonardo. I was thrilled, but some little voice in the back of my head made me stop playing the game entirely after that.
I just picked it up again today.
I had NO idea Leonardo was supposedly (according to the game at least) gay... maybe I did... I dunno... The game mentioning him and his supposed lover kinda made everything make a whole bunch of sense to me though.
Guess I just deciphered one of my own Glyphs from the past, eh?

Yeah this is a really fantastic game. I loved the first game, well except for the lametastic ending, and they manage to have improved so much in this game. It's quite stunning visually and the platforming mechanics feel even better then the first game's. There's a ton of things to do in the game from finding treasure, collecting feathers, discovering tombs, and building up your villa in a bunch of different ways. The RPG-like elements for both your villa and Ezio himself add another great layer to an already excellent game. The only thing left for me to hope for is a satisfying ending to this game even though it'll be leading up to a third game.

I'm defintely buying this one, they seem to have improved everything over the original and I like the setting. Will wait on a price drop though.

me too. as far as i'm concerned this and uncharted 2 are being released when the platinum version comes out at the very nice price of £15 (like i did for infamous) or when they drop to about £18 (like i did for arkham asylum)

Here are my first couple impressions posts from GG Weekly:
It's a very welcome overhaul of the first game without altering the essence of its wonderful platforming mechanics. In a sense, the revamp of the mission structure makes it feel more like GTA: Florence, but that's not a bad thing in my book. Without the obligatory information gathering missions, the flow and pace at which the story unfolds is much more dynamic, and more enjoyable. The city is wonderfully detailed, and the music is beautiful.
Another useful new feature is that the game keeps a record of important places, people and documents you encounter or find throughout the game, so you can always go back and check out a specific building, letter or biography in case you forgot something.
So the game keeps throwing different things at you. Ubi Montreal finally acknowledged the potential that the original game had in regards to platforming elements. I was minding my own business in Firenze, looking for some hidden treasure chests, when one fucker bumps into me "accidentally" and steals money from my bag. "Oooh, boy, you just picked the wrong mexican to fuck with" I say, and I chase him like Leo over young male ass. The chase evolves into a rooftop race, and eventually I catch up with him, knocking him down like an eagle over his prey. I was about to kill him, but he whimpers that he only tried to feed his family, so I soften up and spare his life...after beating the shit out of him, and taking my money back. And his.
Once you get to the family villa, you can invest money to improve it, open businesses and buildings in order to attract tourism. There's a lot of things to do, almost like an RPG-esque approach. Pretty neat.
Last night I had to eavesdrop on a conversation, and to reach the place I had to do a platforming segment that reminded me of a Prince of Persia game. Lots of variety.
Game keeps delivering. New weapons keep showing up, and combat techniques are constantly being unveiled. The overall aspect of your villa improves as you keep investing money in it, and businesses offer stuff at reduced prices. The assassination contracts are available now, but so far they have been somewhat underwhelming. Pretty simple affairs of hunting and killing someone. Hopefully they will become more varied as time goes by.
Tombs of the assassins are amazing. Great platforming segments.
