I find that a little weird.
travo said:I feel I'm at the 5 range. I love my mainstream GTA, Gears of War,Mario games, but can sit around and play the hell out of games like de Blob. I'm not afraid to buy the lesser known games if word of mouth is good. Games like Hotel Dusk, Endless Ocean, Zack and Wiki and Boom Blox. I look forward to fun MP of GTA IV and Smash Bros. while getting my hands on Little King's Story and maybe even Rhythm Heaven. You sound exactly like me, but I would put myself at a 4 because I actually find myself enjoying the more niche games as much, if not more.

Would you say that Dan the real gaming man or whatever he was called would be a 10?
An 11.
SteelAttack said:We should bring Dan here.
Don't make me hurt you.
SteelAttack said:Yup, that's him. The biggest, baddest MS troll that ever graced GS boards. He was a good friend of mine.
Any man who pinches your womanly buttocks is your 'good friend'.

Touchè.
I imagine GG as some weird superhero/supervillain guy.
And of course, I'm a dancing, bipedal, talking beaver. But I don't make beaver farts or stick things into myself.

That's me, half good, half evil, half man, half woman, half human, half beast. And 3/4 of me cannot do math.
Dvader, really interesting to gauge your feelings on Madworld. This is a really interesting topic. It sounds like familiarity is a sort of safety cushion of sorts? Or a guarantee of enjoyment?
So what I'm getting is a risk reward mechanic at work? Limited funds to budget, multiple consoles. Very interesting.
What you said about supporting games, I guess I felt that with Deadly Creatures. I was ho-hum on the game. After a lot of reading I decided to test it out, encouraged by Leo's reccomendation. I'm glad I bought it, I'm glad they made it, but I'm selling it on ebay. It's an enjoyable experience but something that probably falls into rental territory.
I do feel a sort of tiny obligation if not to developers-who try new things, then to myself to try new things. I like experimenting and there is nothing more gratifying to me than discovering some hidden gem that is a complete suprise. Check out the Rhythm Heaven thread for instance, a complete suprise.
Also I don't feel like a mega budget game like Bioshock is necesarily any more worthy than an off the wall DS game. I guess I gauge games by my own personal enjoyment. That's why I can be so in love with a game like Soul Bubbles and reccomend it above other high profile games.
I'm really a critic whore I suppose. I read at least several reviews for each game and usually see extracts from 20.
And also I suppose I'm a reverse number 7 on the mainstream vs niche chart in that I sometimes partake in bargin binning of my own with blockbusters. I rarely do it, but my thinking is that vs niche games, blockbuster games are more ubiquitous at launch. There will always be copies to find many years down the line. Also because they ship more copies they are more likely to easy to find at lower prices.
Lastly, most are either sequels or genres I have beaten to death already. I need to try a Scuba diving game because I've never tried it. I need another realistic racer like a need another kick in the head.

I need a hobo simulator. One where you could go around searching in garbage bins for your next meal. Sort of like MGS3 nourishment system, but using empty chip bags and half rotted produce instead of snakes.
I don't mind trying beaten down genres, as long as they are well made and fun to try. Then again, I am easily amused.
