I would advise sticking with it for more than an episode or two. The first episode was a bit weak, but it definitely improves. I'm five episodes in now and while I haven't exactly been blown away I've really started to enjoy it. Particularly once you realize how they're telling the story.

Outside of Anime I really only watch shows with other people. So it's a give and take given what other people want.

Finished up the Witcher. My initial criticism of the writing stands but it was still good overall, and I'm looking forward to a second season. The final episode of the first season was very messy though, trying to shoehorn some extra story that wasn't needed at this point. Also....

****Mild spoiler****

The show also gets hit with a problem a lot of similar movies/shows have with a major battle scene. A large army is marching into battle, yet every time a battle scene is shown there never seems to be more than 20 people on the screen.

I enjoyed Witcher, it's clearly a big step down from something like GoT but it has some neat world building, cool mission like structure to some episodes and Cavill is just perfect as Geralt. I'm into it and can't wait to see where they go.

I didn't get what the argument was about between the curved spine girl and her BF in the skull basement. I wasn't really paying attention and there was a lot of dialogue thrown out fast. Anyone summarise for me?

He was the only one other than the rectress that knew she was part elven. When the other wizards made it clear that they knew it showed her that he was betraying her confidence and telling someone else her secrets.

The thing that'll stay with me most of the first season is that stupid bard's song. 'toss a coin to your witcher, oh vally of plenty'...

It was an entertaining watch, but no more than that. It missed any sense of urgency, of building towards something.

Best thing about it was the rectrix. She's hot.

I just started episode one of The Witcher and I'm not feeling it yet.  I'll give it a few more episodes to see if it's something I want to stick with.

Is that Camilla Cabelos English twin sister?

I just watched Ready Player One for the first time, on Netflix.  It was entertaining.  Fun times spotting all the pop culture characters and references.  Could have done with more commentary on the dangers of fully immersive virtual worlds on modern society. The OASIS is portrayed as an escape where to a huge number of people flee for long periods at a time, but on the other hand it seemingly is not perceived as an unhealthy and dangerous passtime.  But then you do have labour camps for those who get into too much debt while playing it.  Exploring this theme clearly wasn't the focus of the movie, but I feel that the film could have been so much more.

I think the book expands on it a little more.  Great book, by the way.

I'm watching Korean Odyssey which is about the monkey King being set loose in Seoul. Its mostly a comedy, pretty fun. Also watching Live up to Your name where a Doctor from the past wakes up in a modern day Korean city, also pretty funny. Don't get why the episodes are 1hr 30 mins though. Watching ep 1 of Locke and Key. Okay so far.

Not that I watched either Parasite (yet) or the Oscars (ever), but I find it hard to believe this was the first non-English film to win best film. Then again, apparently The Artist was the first foreign film to win best film. LOL

People should have listened to me years ago. So many good "foreign" movies to watch. But no one wants to read subs.

The Oscars certainly should have, at least.

I watch movies with subtitles all the time.  When you are half deaf, you have toNyaa. Gg, foreign movies don't scare me away.  I just barely have time to watch anything except a few series here and there.  For classics, I recommend Grand Illusion and The Seventh Seal.

I love Le Grande Illusion. One of the best war films ever. Everything I've seen by Bergman is incredible, so I assume The Seventh Seal is, as well.

If we're talking about great films not in English, then it's time for some of my obligatory reccomendations: Alice (Neco z Allenky), Hana and Alice, Stalker, Tale of Tales (1979) and if it's New Year's Eve then the classic (no, not Dinner for One): Carnival Night. Nyaa

Wings of Desire is also wonderful.  Pretty fun to see Colombo in it too!

Yeah, if anyone thinks German is a solely stentorian language, then they need to watch that. The dialogue is pure poetry!

Wim Wenders' road movie trilogy is great, too. How could I not make it a trio of Alice recommendations and fail to include Alice in the Cities?!

I hear Memories of Murder is a classic out of South Kore but I have yet to watch it. I had it in my Prime watch list.

That's one of my favourite Korean "new wave" films. Definitely check it out. I'm pretty sure GG loves it, too!

(If I remember correctly, his GS sig or avatar used to be from the poster, or a screncap).
