Woooo! They had me with the title screen. The Man Who Sold the World!
! The game is amazing and I'll give impressions later but I just have one incredibly awesome part to talk about. Slight spoilers ahead that are non story related.......………..................................
I typed in September 1 as my birthday and forgot about it. After mission 3, Kaz calls me back to mother base and says it's important. I need to hurry! I got off the chopper and hear a loud pop so I pulled out my gun. It's only fireworks. Suddenly, Kaz, Ocelot and a few soldiers came out to sing to me with a patriotic birthday song. One soldier had a boombox, two others wheeled out a DD cake. Ocelot even gave me a cigar! The best part? Big Boss had the biggest grin on his face!
When I walk around Mother Base, soldiers wish me happy birthday!
Nearing the 40 hour mark and have yet come close to the end of the story, I take my time and replay missions and stuff. Especially now with the score rankings up I will try to get high on the leaderboards, though some of these scores are crazy.
I hit another giant stretch of little to no story, nor boss battles. Core gameplay is excellent, missions have some good variety but that is no susbstitue for a boss battle, they serve as the pick me up moments to break up the normal flow. I feel I need the normal flow broken up again, pacing may be the biggest issue with this game. Strange cause pacing in MGS games were perfect.
This guy has played 40 hours and I don't even have the game yet....
Good news though! I've been informed that I will have the game THURSDAY!! aaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaa....
Six hours into it and only 3% complete. I'm loving it. It's different but the same enough where it's Metal Gear. It can be as fun or boring as you make it depending on how you tackle each scenario. The prologue is amazing, just stunning. That says a lot considering I've see practically the whole thing in the trailers but it still delivers. It's so unlike anything we've experienced. The whole craziness, the use of music (bonus points for using a Bowie classic), the mystery of Ishmael. What the hell is going on? I loved it!
I'll talk about the missions after I put the children to bed but I just want to say "holy shit, the game sang to me on my birthday!" I felt special!
You were born on the same day as the GOAT released. You don't need my birthday wishes, Travo.

Worrying.
This game is fantastic
And happy birthday.
Semi-agreed on the pacing short comings.
I played some Ground Zeroes yesterday and now I am super excited for this. If its as advanced as you guys are saying, I am going to love this. But its gonna be one of those games that could take up a dangerously large amount of my gaming time. That's bad for other games and my backlog.
Ah so the game is out...now I wait for some random dude to ship me my Collector's Edition on eBay, and hope it arrives before the weekend.
