This.  The games weapons are all too similar.  The only difference is the range/damage ratio and what subs and specials they come with.  Yeah, yeah, balance and all, but it pretty much boils down to a cosmetic preference and what subs and specials you prefer.

I think there are big differences, you have your sniper rifles, shotgun equivalent, your fast shooting short range or slow shooting long range. And the specials and secondary weapons like you said make a difference.

I was having a great time on tower control ranked battle a few minutes ago before lag killed it. I sat on the tower for 40 seconds and it didn't move, then when the internet sped up I shot forward at super speed on the tower only to be killed by a hail of bullets.

One thing: Ink mines on the tower? I FUCKING HATE YOU GUYS

This person cheated he can automatically put ink in certain areas of the map.

Edit* They posted this video using this technique to get Nintendo to patch it out because it is actually in the game but you need developer tools to find it.

Can everyone make sure Splatoon is updated before next Saturday, otherwise there will be some maps you cannot play or weapons you cannot use. All updates are free.

Finally got to play the new stage, Camp Triggerfish yesterday.  Again it's a much more complicated map than those the game originally launched with.  It's also completely different from all the others.  More a roundabout than a collection of lanes, it seems all about keeping the opposing team from gaining foot on your half, while trying to breach into theirs.  Again, people can moan all they want about the meager content on day one, but this map will give people with little experience with the game a hard time.

Also, those waiting for the August update are doing themselves a disservice.  You're really waiting that long just to realize it'll be near impossible to get 8 of us together for a friendly match?  Or do you want to form a 4 player squad to go up against some Japanese team who'll kick your asses time and time again.  I don't see the added value in that.

How many maps total are there now?  Do they just add maps, or do they make any of the older ones redundant when new ones get released?

Will I need to be doing tons of downloading and updates when I finally get this?

I seem to recall there are 11.  The don't replace the others, they're just added to the rotation.  And it won't take ages to download them all, I'm pretty sure they're all on the disk.

That's good.  Strange to have content locked away upon release and later unlock it for free.  Most devs do that when they want to charge extra.  It was also why it was not so hotly received by reviewers at first "light on content".

Does the rotation favour the more recent ones making the assumption more people will be wanting to try those?  I don't know for a fact if that is so, but Mario Kart 8 online always gives me the impression that the DLC tracks appear more often than the original ones.

Well, Nintendo themselves stated it was as not to overwhelm people who had little to no affinity with online FPS's.  As part of that demographic, I do agree with them.  The last 2 added stages in particular require a great affinity with the mechanics and overall just more strategy than those available on day one.  It's also a nice way of keeping the game fresh, even if it's artificial.

As far as I'm aware, the rotation system does not favor the more recent stages.  If anything, the stage that seems to come up most is Walleye Warehouse, which was part of the innitial batch of stages.

Camp Triggerfish may be easier for newbies as there is so much room to move about. Moray Towers is tough, especially with those gits who love sniper rifles who camp out. BTW I invited a Miiverse friend to our 8th August get together, should be fun. If there are only 4 should we formva squad to face others online or 2v2 and hope more join later?

Played for 40-50 minutes and made it to level 5. Everyone seems pretty noobish so far, as the worst I did was 2nd a couple of times to a level 20----who I beat as many times. But this 2 map shit is awful. Am I missing something, or are you literally stuck playing 2 maps until they rotate it? Hrm

That's how it is but you have another 2 for ranked battles, so 4 every hour. You need to be level 10 to play ranked.
