What are the points for anyway?  Is their a points leader?  Do you get a crazy new Kart after accumulating so many?

The points are for online ranking. If someone loses all the time, they will have much lower points than someone who mostly wins. It enables the system to put you against opponents who are within your raking criteria (i.e. a 1400 point ranked person will mostly face opponents who are also ranked mostly within the 1400 range).

Problem is that the point system isn't in ballance.  For it to have been really indicative, the player who comes in last should lose as many points as the one in first earns.  But it's a -11 to +35 scale, so unless you really, really suck at MK, you'r ranking will always go up.

I'd be willing to free up some time for an attempt at that.  Problem is that when the kid's home I can't play naught.  The second he sees me with the WiiU pad he'll start screaming 'Mario! MAAARIO!!!' and will hog the controller.

I raised him well.

Good game GG!  We were neck to neck a lot of the time.

But boy, are the standard blurbs lacking!  Where are the 'Fuck you and your red shells?', the 'Yeah, just all team up on me', and the 'I am going to trample all over your bloody corpse' lines?  Ruined my Rainbow Road run myself though.  I was in first when I hit an anti-grav bumper taht then catapulted me sideways off the track.  Haven't had that happen before  Hrm  Came in 5th or worse.

I'll be on in about an hour and a half if anyone wants to join.  I'll check here periodically for responses since Nintendo can't do invites right.

Wasn't quitting. I had a few bad races and for some reason I thought I had picked the wrong Kart. I usually go for the Pipe Frame, but for some reason, I felt really sluggish in those few races we did. Backed out to see if I did indeed pick the wrong Kart or tires... but they were my usuals. Just had some really, really "off" races, I guess.

I've got to say that was the best Mount Wario race I've ever participated.  It was intense at the end when I saw the finish line and fireballs were whiz zing by me.

I cannot stop racing!  I don't know what it is about this game, but it's addictive.  Thirty five hours into it so far!  Thirty five!  If this was an adventure game, I wouldn't even blink an eye at that.  But a racing game, that we've seen in some shape or form over and over for twenty years now?  I can't even be bothered with Watchdogs.  It's a great game, I want to play, I just can't.  Yes, Edge, this could be my GOTY.  Maybe something better will come along.  Maybe not.   Granted, I don't have a next gen system so there's a few games that I'll miss out on, but Mario Kart 8 is just phenomenal to me at the moment.
