Anime Limited Confirms Durarara!! on Blu-ray and DVD

Anime Limited has announced on its website that it will release the Durarara!!x2 series on Blu-ray and DVD, 'starting later this year.' (Durarara!!×2 Shō , the first of the 'x2' follow-ups to the original Durarara!! series, is currently airing in Japan; it will be followed by Durarara!!×2 Ten, which begins Japanese broadcast in July, and Durarara!!×2 Ketsu next January)

Durarara!! x2 is set 6 months following the events at the conclusion of the original Durarara!! series, reuniting the wonderful cast of characters and introducing new ones (including some that were at least referenced in the first season) along the way. All is peaceful in Ikebukero, but you know that won't last long (and it doesn't!) From a serial killer named “Hollywood” terrorising the streets, to there being a bounty on the headless rider with what remains of the local gangs getting involved, even Izaya's sisters (first introduced in episode 25 of the original series) are now in the the mix!

Takahiro Omori is directing the television anime at new studio Shuka with series composition by Noboru Takagi. Takahiro Kishida is designing the characters for the series, and Makoto Yoshimori is providing the music. Eri Yamazaki is designing the props, Hiromi Miyawaki is in charge of the color key, Norikazu Kamibayashi is serving as CG producer, Kazuhiko Seki is editing, Jin Tamura is in charge of photography, and the name of the animation's production group will be Ikebukuro Dollars (the same as the first season). The main cast from the original anime is returning to reprise their roles. OKAMOTO'S performs the opening theme "Headhunt" and Three Lights Down Kings performs the ending theme "Never Say Never."

Cool series, I love how it's great because of cop show conventions. Then they throw in the sci fi twist and the what if? question which totally frames how everything else works in the world. This is a top show that plays out like a serious U.S crime show with some serial killer shennanigans thrown in for good measure. Can't wait to see what happens in season 2. There was a slight wobble in the first 3rd where I wondered if it was going to be all episodic but it all panned out the other way in the end.

Following the release of the groundbreaking Akira in 1987, there was a renewed surge of interest in that uniquely Japanese art form: Anime. From the late 80’s to around the mid 90’s there was a seemingly endless wave of titles released in the west. It was seen as a fresh, bold new format: animation for grownups. Some titles, such as Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop, became acclaimed for both their striking visuals and their intellectual content. Others such as Angel Cop or Genocyber... not so much.

For a lot of the films released during this period, time has not been kind. It could be that the animation doesn’t hold up, or outside of the graphic violence there’s not much that’s mature about them. Failing to help is that the vast majority came with poor quality English dubbing, where bad acting, stilted dialogue and excessive profanity join together as one. But it’s an era that’s fondly remembered by some as a vibrant time for the medium.

And one title that’s often cited as a classic, even by people with a dislike of anime itself, is Ninja Scroll. It combined a rollicking adventure tale with likable characters, inventive action and impressive animation. Ninja Scroll was written and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, and a quick look at his filmography reveals he’s worked in some capacity on an impressive amount of well regarded titles.

Saw the first 4 eps of Michiko to Hatchin

The story takes place in a fictional country with cultural traces from South American countries, mostly from Brazil. The title's Michiko is a free-willed "sexy diva" who escapes from a supposedly inescapable prison fortress, while Hatchin is a girl fleeing her abusive foster family. The two join forces on an improbable escape to freedom.

It's set in Brazil it seems like. It's okay so far but not terribly endearing. Very polished and nice looking though.

Also saw Love Hina first 4eps

The series tells the story of Keitaro Urashima and his attempts to find the girl with whom he made a childhood promise to enter Tokyo University. It's a broad comedy, Harem style. Pretty funny at times, sometimes dated but mostly by the English dub which can be pretty bad.

Yowapeda film sounds neat. If only crunchy had them.

Oh and Love Hina is great. I wish I had it on streaming. Manga was miles better though. One of my favorite series ever, bit of a guilty pleasure.

I'm watching Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's (Japanese with subtitles). It's quite a change from the early series Yu-Gi-Oh! in English. Also, card games on motorcycles.
