No fancy OP. Tomorrow the potential GOTY hits. Talk about it here.

I have read a bunch of reviews and one thing scares me, it seems the story is the main reason why it is getting the high scores. I much rather it be the gameplay.

If the gameplay is simply a continuation of the 1st two games, but set up in the goddamn sky, I will be as satisfied as I am when my girl refuses to put some sexy stockings on but is more than willing to sit on my face. That's as in, more than satisfied.

Yeah this game sounds like it's going to be so awesome. I think only GTAV could possibly contest it for GotY.

Eh...I think there will be many contenders. GTA 5 will take it though.

Meh.

Antichamber is still the best game released this year.

I thought my post deserved a few thumbs ups.

I just ran the benchmarking test on the PC with all settings maxed out. It looks great but not a huge jump over the old Bioshock's....at least not in this benchmark video. Normally benchmark videos show you the very best a game is going to look. Definitely not as impressive looking as Tomb Raider. Again though, I'm holding off on playing it until my vacation in mid April.

Didn't realize this topic was here. I'll move my comments from the General News Section to here.

Games don't get any better than BioShock Infinite on the 360...

NON-STORY/GAME RELATED SPOILER: I mean that literally, but in two different ways too: Yes, the game is THAT good, filled with tons of detail and all the atmosphere you would expect from a BioShock game --BUT-- I also mean: They physically CANNOT make a game better than BioShock because you can tell the game is taxing the limits of a current generation system as it is. I haven't run into any performance issues at all yet, but the difference between Console graphics and PC graphics in this game are incredibly clear. Or, rather, I should say the graphics in the 360 version are the opposite of clear, they are kind of hazy and murky and obviously running at a lower FPS than the PC version. The game plays just fine, but it's obvious sacrifices were made to bring this to the consoles. LET ME REPEAT MYSELF: THE GAME PLAYS ABSOLUTELY FINE (SO FAR), BUT IT IS ABUNDANTLY CLEAR THIS CONSOLE GENERATION HAS REACHED IT'S END and IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON. I guess if Infinite signals the beginning of the end, there are worse ways to go...

phantom_leo said:

When all is said and done, Infinite, even in it's first 15 minutes, has more horrifying moments in in (to me at least) than any other videogame I've ever played.

_Bear said:

Leo why did no one tell Nintendo the Generation is over?

phantom_leo said:

Sorry, Bear, not buying into that one... I actually found myself thinking: "I wonder how much better this game would be on the U."

The game is fine on the 360, but just a bit more processing power would have made a BIG difference.

On a side-note of the same subject: I --HATE-- when reviews have inaccuracies. I forget which one said it, but they said you could only equip Two Vigors at a time and only had the option to choose between those two easily by pressing the Left and Right bumpers. If you wanted to use your other vigors you would have to go into a separate screen, yada, yada, yada...

That's not true. Holding the Left Bumper brings up a Wheel with --ALL-- of your Vigors. It's no different than any other weapon wheel in any other FPS. They actually said hot keys on a keyboard worked better... Ummm... A single button to bring up a wheel or a hundred and something key, keyboard which you have to look at (and look away from the monitor)...? Ummm... how is that better?

Ravenprose said:

^ That was the IGN review, Leo. The original Bioshock had the plasmid / weapon wheel, so I knew Infinite would have one too. Can't spell ignorant without IGN.

phantom_leo said:

Infinite is going to be VERY difficult for me to play...LOTS of upsetting themes running throughout so far. Personal in a way no other game has approached before...

Ravenprose said:

OMG! Bioshock Infinite has a full color manual! I thought these were extinct! GASP

phantom_leo said:

Pro Tip: Don't start Infinite on 'Hard'... It's not BioShock hard... It's HARD, hard! I am getting my ass KICKED, losing ALL of my money and am seriously considering starting over!

Ravenprose said:

Damn, I just started it on Hard. Uneasy

BTW, you can change the difficulty in the options at any time, Leo.

phantom_leo said:

I've just read elsewhere TO play it on Hard. Dunno... I guess I was expecting BioShock One difficulty on Medium. Hard is TOUGH, but the firefights are fast-paced and gripping. Don't know yet; maybe I'll decide after I play it more.

Two Observations:

(1) When you step indoors, the graphics get better...! Yeah, Infinite has the old "Better Framerate vs. Better Graphical Effects" option in the Option Menu. I left the Better Framerate option checked and have no problems with the graphics as they are.

(2) Vader, you WILL be satisfied with the gameplay too, yes, even on Hard. There's a frantic pace while on Hard. You'll find yourself pinned, behind cover, flanked by Turrets, Policemen carrying Machine Guns and Firemen (don't ask!); there will be bullets flying, grenades being lobbed, Vigors being thrown about; you'll be sweating each fight and won't want it any other way. Between Hook Points and Stealth Kills, Mind Control and Finishing Moves... the gameplay quickly becomes ---VERY--- satisfying!

I have my hands full with Gears, Luigi and a possible baby, but I think I'm gonna have to pick up Infinite tomorrow.

All that being said, I find the subject matter --VERY-- upsetting. It bothers me. Yeah, seriously. I've never been moved by a game in this way before. Infinite may very well be the very pinnacle of this generation. The last great game of the PS3/360 era has arrived, in my opinion. GTA and The Last of Us cannot have the same effect on me as this game has had already. When the Sky is the Limit and the Sky has been reached, where do you go from there?

Yeah, I discovered that finally, but I'm sticking with Hard! Once you get over the "Hey! This isn't like BioShock!" shock the game gets to be brilliant!

Ugh. I haven't followed the previews of Infinite at all. I knew nothing of the story other than you were Booker and you had to rescue Elizabeth. The attitude of the people of Columbia... from their fundamentalism to their racism. Their air of supremacy. I find it very personally familliar and disturbing. I grew up around sentiments like that and it hits very, very close to home. The image of what America could have become and what some people would prefer it to be... I'm oversimplifying it, but... It's disturbing. One line in particular took place at a 'Raffle' and it was like a slap in the face. I thought to myself: "Did he just say what I thought he said?!"

...and then I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. You'll just have to play to find out what I am talking about, but even then you probably won't find it as bad as me. (Meaning the overall experience, NOT just that one particular scene.)

I just tried Bioshock with Move. It works pretty well. Aiming is fast and accurate, and melee works well too. Feels slightly smoother and a bit more accurate than the Wii Remote. Move's vibration function appears to be disabled by default, and there is no option in the game's menu to turn it on. I might be missing something, though.
