The demo for this game is up on the Nintendo Channel, the US name is Heaven, the European Paradise.

Like Soul Bubbles before it, this comes as a complete suprise to me. Trying the demo of this game made me instantly fall in love with it. Why and what is it? The name vaguely aludes to some weird music game. I don't like music games in general. But imagine Warioware Touched with awesome music and doing the games in time with that awesome music. This is that game.

It should be, it's made the same developers. You hold the DS sideways and use the touch screen for control whilst looking at the top screen for visual clues. Then its all about playing your part in the music.

I only tried 3 minigames availible but each one was resolutely charming and really fun. So much so that like Soul Bubbles before it, it becomes an instant buy.

Screens dont do this game justice so watch videos!

It's also surprisingly robust and addictive as hell: though you're only providing three simple touch screen commands in Rhythm Heaven, the designers put everything it could into producing one of the most creative and original music-based games on the market.

In context, Rhythm Heaven is a brilliant DS continuation of the Game Boy Advance game, but since we didn't get the first game, the DS title will feel completely original. Instead of tapping a button along with the music, players instead tap or flick the stylus against the touch-screen in time to the beat using the visual and audio cues to know which to do and when.

Even if youre not a music fan youre going to love Rhythm Heaven. Its completely off the wall and unlike anything youve ever played on the Nintendo DS, not to mention incredibly fun and just as addictive. Its awkwardly heavy in Japanese influence, but thats half its charm Western designers just couldnt get away with some of the bizarre things that are going on in Rhythm Heaven. Hopefully North American gamers snag this one up as quickly as Japanese gamers did in the overseas version maybe itll encourage Nintendo of America to localize the Game Boy Advance original as a WiiWare or DSiWare downloadable game.

i have been playing it for a couple of weeks now (in short bursts), but it hasn't drawn me in like games such as ouendan or warioware have in the past.  i know it's not exactly like either of those games but i sort of expected something in between and i'm a little disappointed.  or in any case something with more substance.  so far i've played 15 minigames (including 3 remixes) i've got a gold on most of them and perfected 3-4 of them, and i'm still not feeling it much so i guess it's not too early to pass judgement.

it's a good game to play while on the bog, or in bed before falling asleep.  but on the whole i expected much more.  i'm afraid if i were rating it, it would be nothing more than a 6.5 - 7.0

OMG, if you watch the videos, forget about the video review, check out the remix videos.

The glee club is awesome there are three little guys, you are the end guy. And when you mess up your timing the other two give you dirty looks LOL

Leo has a Rhythm Heaven blog entry that I virtually ignored because I had no idea what this game was before. I cant seem to find it.

I pretty much enjoyed the bits I played more than Warioware. I love the music and how it lasts longer and isn't as easy. It's a game that makes me smile.

Like I said, weird Japanese name, I dont generally like music games at all, but this isn't really a music game. It has more in common with warioware. Did you try the demo? It's so cool.

Wired review:

Review: Rhythm Heaven Is Portable Musical Brilliance

660

Do you like music in your videogames? Then buy Rhythm Heaven.

Rhythm Heaven, to be released Sunday for Nintendo DS, is a throwback to the days when music-based videogames were a tiny niche part of the business and the words "guitar" and "hero" had never been uttered in sequence by game designers. It is a collection of more than 50 mini-games that use just two simple control mechanisms — tapping or flicking the DS' touchscreen in rhythm with the beat of a song.

It is the perfect example of a game that takes a simple, easy-to-master mechanic and spins it out into a game experience that is complex, challenging, hilariously entertaining and lengthy. Once you've mastered one mini-game, another awaits to test your rhythmic ability and ask a very simple question: Can you keep the beat, while chaos goes on around you?

I just downloaded the demo.  It's a very charming game that can be quite addictive. The sing along is genius. LOL  The mechanics are so simple, intuitive and fun.

I love it, the way the dudes give you shifty looks if you mess up. It may go down when the demos next update so I'm going to have to have another go. It's out next friday in Europe. I'm getting it for sure.

Did you ever try the Soul Bubbles demo? I think Bugs and Leo and me have the game and Mantorok tried the demo based on my thread, loved it and bought the game too. It's really cheap, $12.50 at amazon.

Install the Nintendo Channel on Wii (you can find it on the Shop channel), go to find other titles, click DS Download service. Follow the instructions once you click a demo.

This game just gets better.

I found music samples on youtube. Grinning

Another-review

Closing Statement:
Going into this review I was more than a little apprehensive.  I do consider myself a full-fledged gamer with hardcore roots.  Hell, I play wearing a headband like Ryu from Street Fighter.  But would WarioWare with music work?  Would this be just as much fun as everything else TNX have been involved in, or just another “casual game” to end up dying a loathsome death under the crushing depths of the bargain bin?  Surprisingly, a musical WarioWare turned out to be an inspired idea and Rhythm Heaven has enough unique style and charisma to keep gamers hands glued to their DS.  Putting this one down and keeping it down is two completely different things.  For gamers who have even a passing interest in music games, Rhythm Heaven is a megaton of fun, a must-own title that will not disappoint.

5/5 Flawless Victory award

Out this Friday in Europe:

Rhythm Heaven - review

A portion of a C3 review…

Rhythm Paradise is one of those games that makes you grin unwittingly. A lovable bunch of characters, a top notch sound track and addictive gameplay all blend together to create a game that, if you’re a fan of music games or anything slightly off-centre, must be experienced.

Rhythm Heaven - review

A portion of a SPOnG review…

This is a quintessential DS game, the kind of thing that reminds you why Nintendo bothered to implement a touch-screen in the first the place. It’s full of foot-tapping, head-nodding rhythmic interaction, stripped down to the essentials – catchy music, stylish graphics, simple stylus controls – and turned up to 11.
