You should get the sequel, they cut out the overworld crap and the jobs are all fun, short 8 bit homages. The rest of the game is better too, though some of the bosses are not as memorable. Good sequel.
I'm of the opinion that the sequel is worse for the lack of overworld and for replacing the killing contracts and jobs with the mostly awful 8-bit games, but the sequel is definitely worth it for the selection of boss fights alone most of which are as good as those of the first. Definitely a great game, but to me, not as great as the original.
Also, on the original question. I will try it with the WiiU. Think I'm finally managing to be buying fewer games, and I hope to reduce the number even further. I have a monster backlog and it's been increasing all the time. There's just no point.

Also, don't think I'll be giving up on handhelds. In an increasingly busy schedule the only time I'm always able to play games is on the bog. I'm keeping my 3DS and I'm looking forward to quite a few games for it. Though I may not buy the Vita

It's funny, earlier in the year I thought I was giving up on handhelds, but I've had a ton of fun with my PSP lately. So maybe it wasn't handhelds I was tired of... just the 3DS. Still no regrets in selling that.

I play my handhelds in the house. Sure I transport them from house to house but not that much. With the Wii U playing like a giant handheld in the house, whatever room I may be in I would rather have future 3DS games as like digi downloads on wii U and then just stream them to the pad.
It depends on the console and the generation. I could easily have had only a PS2 last gen, or a PSX the one before, but each console of those gens had their own unique offerings. This gen I could happily survive on only the Wii, but the same cannot be said of the PS3 or 360...and if you have a 360 or PS3 then it's pretty redundant to have the other.
Of course I'd love a 360.

Big picture though, If you only have one console, you nullify your ability to speak on the merits of one console over another (you have to give up your fanboy card).
It IS ludicrous to have all the consoles, I mean, it really is. But if you want to be able to talk to everyone in your hobby you have to own them to speak authoritatively.

$128 has a pretty good chance of dropping below $99 on a decent sale, so it's okay.

Errrrrrrrrrr, what masterful version of the internet have you been reading? I see plenty of single platform owners talking crap about other consoles.

I don't know, I guess you should not speak in certain terms, just say why you haven't or are not interested in console X. I don't own a PS3 but I still talk about the other side of it, development, hardware, business news etc. I don't talk about the games I have not played or tracked.
I might as well bestow upon myself the nickname "Dead Threader" -- by the time I return to the site and spot a thread I'd like to post in, the last post was made weeks before.
What with acquiring systems late, used, and maybe not even during their generation's timespan, my situation has never been straightforward. Last gen, I managed to get all three consoles before any of their successors were released, though (due to finding employment for the first time). It was great for me to be able to do that, and I got to see some diversity in game libraries. This gen is probably less diverse, since most games get released on both the 360 and PS3, and I could only really see owning one of them to be feasible or sensible (for me). I've been a PC gamer since 2006, so it would probably be the PS3. Even then, most of the games I want are either exclusive to the PC or get put on it, anyway, so I'm not missing out on much unless I become interested in a genre that the PC doesn't see many entries in -- namely, fighting. I've never been good or very interested in fighting games, but I just got a Guilty Gear and a BlazBlue game from Arc System Works, and I plan on playing them to death (the superb music will actually really help me there). As it happens, those are the only two ASW games I'm aware of on the PC (due to sales numbers, apparently, only the first BlazBlue got a PC release T_T ), aside from Guilty Gear Isuka, which doesn't seem worth trying. At least I can play BlazBlue against both PC and 360 players, though the latter have probably moved on to more recent iterations in said franchise. By the time I get good enough to do online matches, I'll have no one to fight against!
The vast library of games that I have access to as a PC gamer is astounding. I could spend a lifetime playing both new games and, thanks to places like GOG.com, older games I missed, especially if they have no recent successors. I do play on my DS Lite occasionally, but mostly when I'm away from the house or am having computer problems, and my DS game collection is strikingly small and I've nearly lost interest in it. I had a Wii for something like three years, but the software drought and my strong desire to upgrade my computer led me to sell it. For the most part, I don't consider that a mistake, though I certainly miss Smash Bros. and Zelda. I would like to get a Wii U at some point later on in the next gen... really only for Nintendo's first-party wares, however, as I'm otherwise perfectly content with the PC.
So as for where I stand now and will probably still stand next gen, I'm extremely happy just being a PC gamer. Not sure if that's a fair answer to the thread's main question, though, as its library is so much bigger than that of any console or handheld....

I can't rule out handhelds, especially if they can give me a decent, modern console-like experience (I'd say the Vita is the first one to do that, thanks to it being dual-analog), but I find that the genres I'm primarily interested in aren't represented well enough on handhelds to justify the expenditure on the hardware. Also, good PC games can be incredibly cheap, especially if they're old or indie-created. I'm in front of my PC often enough that the portable aspect of handhelds is only really important to me in times when my PC is experiencing problems (like it was in the last few days, with incessant, seemingly-random, freezing). Like I said in my previoius post, though, there are genres that are underrepresented or nearly nonexistent on the PC, such as fighting, and if a handheld could adequately substitute for a console, I'd be more tempted to get the handheld over a console, just because of the compactness and portability of the system. For example, I think there's a BlazBlue game for the Vita. If that series were the primary thing compelling me to get a console, and if it played just as well on a handheld, I think I would rather opt for the latter. (The fighting genre might be a bad example for which to prefer a handheld over a console, however, given how horrible fighting games are on the control hardware -- i.e. I'd much rather replace a controller than replace or send for repair a handheld; just replace it with some other genre, and the same point will stand).
I must say that I'm eager to see what MS and Sony do with their new hardware, and I'd be lying if I said I probably wouldn't be tempted to get either one, but I find it very unlikely, unless there's a mass migration of developers/publishers away from the PC, that I'd ever feel the overwhelming desire to buy either one. They'd really have to have a "gigaton" exclusive or two to force my wallet. The PC is just a much better platform for me. If I could, I would trade the technical problems and DRM for the consoles' relative lack of either, though. Those are the main perks of consoles for me. One thing I definitely dislike about the console sphere, though, is Nintendo's focus on changing the physical interface from something proven to something that has tradeoffs instead of being superior in all ways and adding more functionality. I'm pleased to see that the UPad (as I like to call it) is a change in what I consider the right direction.
