Scribblenauts cover is great, though. The blue compliments it nicely.

Rumour: Wii U release date and launch bundles outed by distributor

3 Skus, 3 prices, Nov 11th

Nintendo's launch plans for the Wii U have allegedly been leaked by a North American distributor.

Video Products Distributors, an American company which supplies products to Amazon, Newegg and Blockbuster, lists the console as being due for release on November 11.

The listing also suggests that the console could ship via three SKUs, starting at $249.99 (£157) and rising to $349.99 (£220).

It's not known what is included in the more expensive SKUs.

WIIU SYSTEM - GM

11/11/12 $249.99

WIIU SYSTEM W/ - GM

11/11/12 $299.99

WIIU SYSTEM 349 W/ - GM

11/11/12 $349.99

The site requires a login to access, but a video supposedly showing the listing has been posted to YouTube. You can catch that below.

Nintendo has yet to announce official launch details for Wii U. The company is expected to reveal its launch plans next week.

They better announce it soon or they will miss the holiday season.

I'm guessing the difference in SKU's is simply the size of storage space.

I buy this rumor. Kind of. Their site and they dont list Nintendo as a client (they list everyone else though). But it makes sense for multiple price entry points (at least it does to all these electronics companies these days).

Maybe $350 for the Wii U with one wiimote and massive storage? $300 for one wiimote and a bit of storage and $250 for "go fuck yerself, buy your own damn memory and use your shitty-ass wiimotes from your old-ass Wii".

But then I wonder -- why artificially inflate the price of the U at all and have that $350 price hanging out there.  You think they'd go for the $250 route and let the consumer do the math on the rest of the parts rather than even have "$350" in the conversation.

Maybe to make the $300 option (the real console) seem reasonable?

Like usual, the console makers jack us on storage like its some huge feature.

Sept. 13 all will be revealed. One day after new iPhone.  Maybe they were trying to bury the higher price in the regular press by planning it for that day?

Ideaman was saying that devs were told of this in hearsay a while back and that it might have more to do with what controllers were packed in. The most expensive one probably comes with two tablets.

And also remember that Iwata and Miyamoto said that only Wii motion + controllers would work with Wii U although they were not clear on the specifics. I would assume they meant that any Wii U game that uses wii remotes would have to have motionplus and that you could still use your normal wii remotes for playing Wii 1 games.

Another tidbit of info, a developer confirmed that Wii U's DSP sound chip supports a whopping 8 channels of sound because it also has to output stereo to the gamepad.

Large article here worth checking out:

PAX: multiple Wii U game imrpressions from N.E.S

NES said

Tidbits:

  • The Wii U would easily fit inside a 360 Slim case with room to spare.
  • I could easily see myself playing for hours on the controller without the slightest bit of discomfort.
  • The touchscreen itself worked flawlessly
  • The image quality of the screen, while not unacceptable, fell slightly short of expectations.

Zombi U showed off some excellent lighting effects, anti-aliasing, and higher caliber enemy models that were absent in the demo shown earlier this year at E3. Frame-rate was also noticeably improved, allowing for a very visually pleasing experience. ZombiU was easily the best looking Wii U game on the show floor and it was hard to imagine too many people being disappointed with its visuals.

Project P-100 All I can say about this game is that it lives up to the hype. While not necessarily a graphical showpiece, P-100 stood out with its vibrant use of color, playful art design, and charming atmosphere. Don’t let the cartoon cuteness fool you; this is one game everyone should be watching closely.

They also went hands on with RE6 and Injustice Gods Among us.

It also appears that they fixed Arkham City Wii U, although this person does not own the game on other platforms:

http://gamerliving.net/archives/12238

The graphics of the game showed off the Wii U’s horsepower and are comparable to the current generation counterparts. Environments were crisp and clean, Batman himself stood out amongst the scenery. Even in the dark, gloomy setting of Arkham City, level progression was obvious, visual cues stood out, and the textures were gorgeous.

The Wii U brings a few new features to the table that make the experience feel unique to Nintendo’s new console, the Wii U’s horsepower gives the game a slight visual boost, and the core elements of the game feel intact and preserved.

Don't really understand this but whatever.

One of the devs at GAF said about Wii U SDKs

So, new version of Wwise was just released, and brings with it another round of rather substantial Wii U optimizations, increasing overall performance while reducing the memory footprint, and speeding up certain effects by up to 4.4x. Considering they touted slightly above 360 levels of performance several releases ago, almost all of which came with further optimizations, I'm really not sure what to make of the "weak CPU" rumors. They also gave a few performance figures (peak limiter: 0.2% CPU load, delay: 0.07% CPU load), though they're pretty useless as I don't have anything to compare them to.

Wwise is an audio program?

Wwise® features both an optimized sound engine for managing audio processing and an event based audio authoring tool for creating audio asset structures, integrating interactive music elements, defining audio propagation, managing sound integration, and creating SoundBanks. The tight integration of the audio authoring application and the sound engine allows you to mix, profile, and modify sounds in real-time within the game itself.

So what has that got to do with CPU and effects etc and when he says effects are over 4 times better now, he just means audio?

  • They have not shown it working with two yet, they say it will work and I beleive them but are clearly downplaying the use of two consoles.
  • No game has annonuced support for it.
  • There will be no support from third parties for two pad support unless it is packed in with all U's -- look at history of peripherals. I severely doubt even Nintendo will support it based on their language when they finally revealed that it was technically possible to support two.
  • They have not said they will sell them individually yet (though they have not said much about anything).
  • There is no way they can sell it at $350 and have two gamepads and the console and make money. No way.

WTF happened to my reply? Someone deleted it? Ugh, cannot be bothered to repeat all of it. But the difference in price between low to high skus is $100 which is more than enough for a second controller. Also if Nintendo announced it will support two pads then they HAVE to sell it separately.

A supposed insider said this on the beyond3D forums:

The first two visual showcases from Nintendo's internal studios will be Retro & Monolith Soft's titles. Both running on proprietary engines that will demonstrate the Wii U's technical presentation properly. There are still a few announcements left regarding japanese exclusive & multi-platform software, though nothing really exploiting the hardware. (from what I've heard)

This takes more time, publishers want to simply get the software up & running optimally as quickly as possible. Taking advantage of the architecture of a new system takes time. Batman:AC is definitely taking some advantage of the additional ram, GPU functionality, OoOe, as well as using the DRC creatively rather than simply as a submenu. V-sync is enabled, texture resolution is increased, post-process anti-aliasing, (not present in the PS3/360 versions) as well as additional art assets & geometry have been included in certain scenes. The 3rd party title that will demonstrate the differences most noticeably will be Gearbox's Aliens:CM, but that is a Q1 2013 release. The Wii U's version of Metro:LL is still officially on development hold, though this was showing early potential as well.

We'll see. Nintendo announced it was technically possible, not that they'd support it.  We may be semantically entangled here.

I guess you are right on the $100 being enough for a second tablet though.

As for your message going away, if it was long, I always copy and paste my posts to the clipboard as usually the site logs me out by the time I have finished a long post.

I hope something new also. I hate it when talented studios get pigeon-holed as the "X-studio", then when the franchise starts to stumble they get shut down.  See Bizarre Creations, Neversoft (though technically they are still zombies), Lionhead (same) etc...
