20 years ago the original Playstation hit Japan and thus began the greatest run of a game console brand in history. Playstation changed video games, it brought it to the mainstream in ways Nintendo and Sega could never do. It showed that video games were not just toys for kids but entertainment for all ages. The first playstation gave us a ton of legendary games and series. The run of being the home to the best variety of games has lasted till this day. So lets celebrate the greatest console family of all with some stories of what Playstation meant to you.

I have told this a bunch of times so here we go again. I was an nes kid but then went to the genesis and developed an obsession with Sega. I was hardcore into the console wars, super anti Nintendo, would follow Sega forever. I got the Saturn when it hit, my brother got the PS that same Christmas. I laughed at him, Sony making games what a joke.

Fast forward a few months and my brother who is a huge horror fan bought this new game called Resident Evil. My mind was blown, I never experienced anything like it. At that moment I knew games were not just some you kids play and grow out of, this is a true form of entertainment, every bit as engrossing as a movie.

RE broke my Sega fanboysim, I got my own ps a short time after and the rest is history. Stuff like FFVII, the first RPG I ever played, opened me up to so many new games. MGS being one of the greatest gaming experiences ever. I will own every Sony console till the day I die probably.

Doesn’t matter the genre, there was probably something for you. Think of all the legendary franchises that began on PS: Resident Evil, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, Grand Theft Auto, Legacy of Kain, Twisted Metal, Wipeout, Silent Hill, Syphon Filter, Ridge Racer for PS1. Ratchet, Jak, Devil May Cry, Onimusha, God of War, Socom for PS2 and so on. The best libraries, the PS has never let me down (as a whole, like Sega having systems die and such, Sony would never have that happen, except with portables, which doesn’t count Nyaa)

Can’t believe it has been 20 years already, well 19 for us Americans, but still what a run it has been. Can’t wait for the next 20.

I never owned a PS1 but my sister did.  I played all the big games (MGS) for free.

For me the PSX was all about two things, Square games and Street Fighter games. This was Square's best era - Final Fantasies, Chrono Chross, Legend of Mana, etc. And Capcom gave us a variety of Street Fighter Alpha games and Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha which was criminally underrated.

This plus Darkstalkers and Rival Schools.

I was a late adpoter of the PS1 because of my Nintendo bias.  I bought one because I was drunk and my partner was mad at me. So I got Bust-A-Move and Hot Shots Golf 2.

Worked out pretty well. I think I own more games for that consoles than any other.

It really came into it's own for me with Gran Turismo 2.

But the lack of FPS left it wanting, and so when the XBOX came out (after a hot and heavy relationship with the dreamcast), I moved over to XB for a while (until MS capped it).

I still remember walking into the computer exhange in Tottenham Court road and seeing a PS1 hooked up with Wipeout. People were gawking.

And I know where Sony headquarters is in London, I passed by and they have PS4s hooked up in the lobby.

I loved PS1 and N64 equally. Both totally different, and both focused on different genres. Didn't have a Saturn back then sadly, which is probably for the best because I probably would have been pissed when they pulled the plug on it.

Anyhow, lets celebrate!

I had both a PS1 and an N64 but I only had a few games for the PS1. I got my PS1 before I got the N64. Once I got the N64 all my friends owned that system as well so I never went back to my PS1.

I did like the PS1 I mainly played the Crash Bandicoot titles and Tekken 2.

I got the first Tony Hawk game on PS1 in 2006.

The era of FMV and pre-rendered backgrounds, leading to fanboys claiming it had better visuals than a 64butt system Nyaa Pffft.
