I beat Max Payne 1 & 2 on Xbox. Enjoyed both a lot.

There's a secret room in one of the levels of the first game that made me laugh.

Been playing through the first game, finally. Oh GOD either I'm stupid or the game has some messy encounters. I'm dying more than in my Demon's Souls playthrough, for fuck's sake! Move through a narrow corridor inside a dingy hotel, enter a room with a couple goons, unleash hell upon them, John Woo-style, navigate another corridor only to find a troll-faced goona the turn of a corner to greet me with a one-shot blast to the face and kill me. Didn't quicksave? Tough shit.

Problem, player?

Fuck this shit.

However, atmosphere, dialogue and plot are all kinds of awesome, so I keep coming back for more trolling.

Steel  ...  *shakes head in despair*

The whole point is that you jump - bullet time - into every room and around every corner and move the mouse and shoot everyone before they have a chance to react.  That is only like the single most important gameplay element in the game.  You need to use it to your advantage.

Finally beat it. Good game, very good thanks to its writing. Some parts of its gameplay have suffered because of the time passed, though. Messy, unbalanced encounters, bad enemy AI made me overuse the quicksave feature, to an extent where I wasn't really enjoying the flow of the game. Fortunately, the setting, writing and characters saved the day for me and made me stick with it until the end. We'll see what MP2 brings to the table.

Kept playing the second game, since I wanted to see what happened to Payne. It's an easier game, that's for sure, and the offhanded surprise buttsex encounters are toned down to a minimum, also, painkillers are in ample supply, at least in the normal difficulty level, so that's hardly a problem. Story hasn't grabbed me like the first one did, though, and even though the game still retains most of what I thought it was amazing from the previous one, it starts to get a bit stale. Starting the third and final act tonight, GT5 willing.

Finished MP2. In the end it turned out to have a solid, good story, and with the bonus of having a better way of handling enemy encounters. Certainly easier than the first. Now I'm tempted to grab MP3 whenever it gets released.
