We thought crossing fingers wouldn't cut it to have PSN back up again tomorrow, so we're thinking of crossing something substantially larger.

Oh... We are looking for a miracle?

I think if you and I crossed penises, it wouldn't just bring back PSN... it would probably result in the second coming of Christ...

The world just isn't ready for THAT kind of power yet!

LOL Yeah, it's for the best, probably. If we crossed them, tomorrow the Dreamcast 3 would be announced (that's right, SEGA skipped DC2 and jumped straight to 3) tomorrow, with Shenmue 3 as a launch title, spanning a whopping FOUR Holo-Giga-ROM disks. I know of a VGPresser or two who would sport huge tentpoles for weeks at the mere thought of that.

Yeah, I had no expectation of it coming back this week.  With the new SOE wrinkle it may be even later.

This SOE thing is what pushed me over the edge with the situation.  I've been patient up to this point in terms of understanding that if someone is targeting you, and you are a big enough target, you will get hit.  But with SOE being inflitrated a week after this all started... it's just unprofessional.

I agree it shows a pattern of disregard for security, like they figured they were above it. They were so concerned watching the piracy issue of their software they left the bank doors open to the vault of the network. Its pretty sad. More time protecting the customers and less time trying to stop the endless tide of piracy would serve them well. To some point I think they provoked this attack with suing people and going after names of people who looked at websites. More money securing the network and protecting it's customers and less to lawyers would serve them well. I hope this is not the beggining of the End for Sony, I always liked their products but always was unhappy with the customer service, attitude and general demeanor of the company.

I was never much of an online gamer so frankly I'm not too upset by not being able to play online, but I'm starting to miss the little things like checking out other people's trophies and seeing who else is online. Even moreso I miss the PSN Shop.

I think something will happen soon though. Last night I saw the error message change when I tried to log onto PSN. Something about it being down for maintanance rather than whatever error message that was there before.

I think that error message change to down for maintenance happened awhile ago. I've mostly been busy gaming on the 360 lately but I have been wanting to get the Steel Rain dlc for Killzone 3 along with purchasing some more of the PSOne games.

I'm getting a bit antsy, I want to hook up steam, get my PC copy of Portal 2, play some coop. It should be soon I figure.

Its not like I don't have a ton of non PS3 games to play, but when something is taken away I want it more.

It's not getting better, it's getting WORSE. Sony has shut down ALL of their online games such as Everquest, Free Realms, etc. Just go to www.everquest.com or www.freerealms.com and see for yourself.

Got an email from Sony this morning:

Dear Valued Sony Online Entertainment Customer:

Our ongoing investigation of illegal intrusions into Sony Online Entertainment systems has discovered that hackers may have obtained personal customer information from SOE systems. We are today advising you that the personal information you provided us in connection with your SOE account may have been stolen in a cyber-attack. Stolen information includes, to the extent you provided it to us, the following: name, address (city, province, zip, country), email address, gender, birthdate, phone number, login name and hashed password. Customers outside the United States and Canada should be advised that we further discovered evidence that information from an outdated database from 2007 containing approximately 12,700 non-Canadian customer credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes) may have also been obtained - we will be notifying each of those customers promptly.

There is no evidence that our main credit card database was compromised. It is in a completely separate and secured environment.

We had previously believed that SOE customer data had not been obtained in the cyber-attacks on the company, but on May 1st we concluded that SOE account information may have been stolen and we are notifying you as soon as possible.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the attack and as a result, we have:

1. Temporarily turned off all SOE game services;

2. Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and

3. Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When SOE’s services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your Station or SOE game account name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.

To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports.

We are committed to helping our customers protect their personal data and we will provide a complimentary offering to assist users in enrolling in identity theft protection services and/or similar programs. The implementation will be at a local level and further details will be made available shortly in regions in which such programs are commonly utilized.

We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please contact us at 1-866-436-6698 (Monday to Friday 15:00 to 22:00 GMT excluding holidays) should you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Sony Online Entertainment LLC

How long until they start shutting down PS3s?

Oh wait, they've already done that once.

They're just going to keep it disconnected for another month and then announce it's grand return at E3.
