It's a wii game - which should be the standard answer.
This always happens when it comes to controls. Everyone has an opinion and when motion is involved there is hardly ever a consensus, but Red Steel 2 seems to be the closest we've ever come to it. Other than Prime 3?

Almost 3 years gone from Gamespot and their content still amazes me. And not in a good way.

1up is so ridiculously inconsistant with their reviews that it becomes impossible to trust their scores on points alone. This was the site that Wii Music it's highest rating of a 91. Not that they don't back of their reviews most of the time, but I can't figure them out so for the most part I just ignore them.
Mdk7 on gaf:4 hours in, the impression is pretty terrific.
As VandenBerghe had told me during the press tour the game starts off painfully slow, with limited moves, boring tutorials and very short missions. But don't give up, cause once it opens up it becomes adorable.
Shooting feels so great (shit i forgot how cool the aiming with the Wiimote was!), and the swordfighting is even better: the controls just work in their physical nature (no waggling with wrists only, life-like gestures are the real deal here!) and the variety of attacks is pure heaven.
This is not a First Person Shooter, it's really more of a first person brawler where you get to fight enemies both with swords and ranged weapons (and switching on the go between sword and gun is RAD).
It makes you feel terribly badass, and you easily forget its evident game design flaws: surely the level design is pratically just a bunch of rooms full of ninja-cowboys, the game is a little void and that typical grandeur of nowadays FPS is absent here, but you just don't give a shit about all this stuff since the brawling is so damn entertaining.
Having a Wii and not buying this game would be a foolish move: after all we've been waiting for YEARS to use the Wiimote like this.
I'll play it more tomorrow, but if the games stays like this my final score is gonna be pretty high
This is btw probably the prettiest game on Wii. It just looks amazing. The textures are crisp and clean and the style is a killer. Just beautifull. Hats of to Ubi for pulling it off.
hamzik said:I just spent an hour and a half with the game and it was only in the last 15 minutes that it finally clicked. The opening hour is slow. You have no moves or powers and there is a tutorial like very minute or so. But they are much needed and once I got through the first missions and bought a couple of new moves it suddenly just clicked. Once I got it the combat felt awesome. Fluid, versatile and just plain fun. I feel like a badass instantly switching between my gun and katana and pulling of finishers while getting attacked by 4-5 jackals. Oh, and the aiming feels fucking great.

Everyone says the first hour is slow, all tutorials. Great impressions. I pre-ordered a hot deal on amazon a few weeks ago and for some reason they show no signs of being able to get it and post it out to me.
Usually they post a couple of days prior to shop release. Here, nada, nothing.

Damn the controls are spot on, not one missed movement. Motionplus really seems to work well. What's better is if you look at JTs face, you can see him grin, see him wince, see him get that look in his eyes like "I'm a badass"
That's how the game will make you feel because of the first person controls.

And has posted his review

9/10
This showed up today, surprisingly. I was half expecting them to send just the game and then I would have to complain. Wow, no. I got £10 off the retail price of a brand new game and a FREE motionplus.
Plugging it in makes the wii remote feel longer and heavier, ironically more like a sword hilt. Will check it out later. I was up till 5 am last night and woke up at 12 pm. Fuuuuuuuuuck.
Missed my blood test.

it doesn't make sense! game with wmp = £30. game alone = £30
i'm not going to get it from them because they would charge me £9 postage (and the truth is i have no need for any more motion-pluses), but it is a great deal for everyone in the UK

Offer is still open

Are they taking a hit on this or what? They have the game alone version listed at the same price.
hard to say. maybe nintendo gave a good deal to ubisoft for the bundles and they in turn gave a bunch of bundles for the price of the game to amazon.
what seems silly is that they have the unbundled game listed for the same price. i wonder how many people ordered that instead

Postage would've been about that for me (including the cost they charge for each order, actually might be about half that come to think of it). Great deal even so, but they won't ship it to Aus with motion plus.
definitely ... not to mention the lack of warmth and love
