RE4 saved the franchise from a slow death. It was going nowhere, sales were dropping and it was becoming irrelevant. RE4 was the best thing to happen to the franchise. I do agree there is still room for old school RE but a change was necessary.

Agree 100%! RE4 was a masterpiece.

The funny thing is, after RE5 people are crying for another reboot. But this time it shouldn't be as drastic. All Capcom needs to do is give it better controls and trash the tank controls. Then it should be good to go.

RE5 was just a corrupted warm-over of 4, neither Kimaya or Mikami had anything to do with it.  As far as I am concerned the franchise is dead.  RE5 was a warmed over version of 4, and now they are rushing out 6, so it's likely to be more of the same.

But for all its flaws, I still enjoyed the hell out of RE5. I think I said this before but RE5's strength was the variety. You never did the same thing twice which is what kept me playing all the way through.

I really think Capcom WILL change RE6 around and adapt to more modern controls. They have to especially with all that backlash. If they don't then, well...the franchise will become more irrelevant. I don't think it'll die or anything because of the fanbase, but it'll get a lot of flak for it.

^I'm a big beleiver in the autuer theory of game developement.  I think that certain franchises owe their strength to the personal creative vision of the director of the game.  In this case Mikami and then Kamiya.  Some might look to Tim Shaefer and his games, or Yamauchi at Polphony Digital.  Once you remove that creative direction from a franchise it loses it's specialness.  What would GT6 or 7 be without the insane attention to detail and completion if Yamauchi was gone?

It can work out, look at the way Miayamoto has been able to hand off his responsibilities on Mario for example, but it is more often the case that once the originator of the series moves on, the series continues in name only unless there has been talent nurtured to stay on with the franchise (as has not been the case with RE).

RE5 may have been an amazing game, but it wasn't a triumph for the series.  To me it's a zombie shell, shambling along without a creative brain.  I'd prefer the franchise be put out of it's misery before the corpse is further defiled.

I generally am not a huge fan of episodic games, but I do think the old school RE style would lend itself very well in episodic content. The cliff hangers could really be something special if they're handled correctly.

Yeah, Capcom could do something like what you mentioned and put some classic styled RE games on PSN/XBLA . Not ports but brand new adventures starring some of the iconic RE characters.

Just imagine a brand new REmake style RE game with Jill Valentine, and maybe make this game a prelude to RE6 like the way DR Case Zero was. It would sell a lot.

Capcom is just letting this gold mine pass by them.

i wouldn't have minded 4 if they didn't ruin the story with having a anticent  parasite worm that takes over people and mutants them is just lame, i bought 4 got so pissed that i traded it back after a week from its release, then i bought 4 wii and  played it an hour never touched it
i know that people loves 4 but i hate it being a hardcore horror nutt

I loved both RE4 and RE5 myself. I thought 5 turned out just fine even without Mikami and Kamiya.

But all the variety had been covered in RE4. Nyaa
