I am using very simple to understand critera, an original game is one that is not a part of an existing franchise or property. You are the one bringing in all sorts of exceptions about gameplay.

River Raid

River Raid had a sequel, though. River Raid II. I own it. Happy

Stop it.  I own it too, and it is inferior.  Just agree for once (look into your heart) that RR1 is better.

Sorry. I guess I misunderstood the point of this thread. I thought it was about great games that never got a sequel.

And I do agree with you on River Raid. Happy

 My apologies, I misunderstood you.

Sorry, but I'm still gonna stand by my Panzer Dragoon Saga entry.

Yes, there were Panzer Dragoons before --BUT-- NONE of them had the game-play of Saga!

Yes, there were Panzer Dragoons after --BUT-- NONE of them had the game-play of Saga!

It is by far one of the most unique RPGs out there (even today) and was such a departure from everything else in the Panzer Dragoon series that I think an exception can be made.

There really aren't (m)any other series out there that crossed genres like this one did (from Rail-Shooting to RPG?) with such spectacular results!

Xel'lotath. Narokath. Santak!

Someone (other than me) restore my sanity and mention this game...

...anyone?

...anyone?

No one "got" this one? There's gotta be at least ONE die-hard fan of this game on this site!

When they made THIS particular game for Nintendo's system, everyone thought the Developers were some sort of Gaming Gods...

...unfortunately soon after we found out they were all too human!

It actually translated the mechanics of the franchise to an RPG very well. It was still about enemies coming at you in different directions and you having to shoot at them with the lasers or missles, just turn based.

But its your thread, you make the rules, I thought this was about one game wonders.

You didn't like it? I thought it was a pretty awesome on-rails shooter and I still think it had some of the best graphics for the first XBOX.

I guess I am confusing everyone, eh?

While I agree Orta is an incredible game, it is just like Panzer 1 and Zwei.

My intention for this topic IS one of a kind, stand alone games (for the most part)...

I know I am guilty of breaking that rule with Saga... I just REALLY do feel it is THAT unique and unlike the other games.

My apologies, Leo. I misunderstood your post.

Than how about Bayonetta? If there won't be a sequel, than that'll definitely be in this discussion.
