8 hours? Whoa.

One thing I dont understand in CW is that sometimes I get messages that autoshops have new cars in stock or something but on the map all I can see are pay and sprays. On that map i posted there are bomb shops too, I haven't spotted them.

One great thing about this game is that even without doing the missions, the drug selling minigame is so addictive you can just literally play that forever, amassing huge amounts of cash.

i think you will start seeing the bomb shops on your map, once you do the story mission that requires it.  i also don't understand the messages about the autoshops.  to be honest i just ignored them.

You know what I was thinking just now? Well its obvious the proper GTA team want to work on the most powerful consoles, so  a Wii version isn't going to happen. The Bully team which would be a perfect fit for a Wii GTA is doing Max payne 3.

So.... Rockstar leeds did a full, proper, awesome GTA game on DS and the only thing its really missing is voice acting and animated cutscenes.

Sure its top down, but I quite like it and it would be cool if they would do another top down Wii one with wii visuals and voice acting. They've made a full GTA game here on a handheld. They could do a wii one that used the remote turned on its side, just d-pad and buttons and IR for minigame stuff. It would be pretty awesome.

Making it top down also saves the hassle of making a behind the shoulder view GTA and it has its benefits too: no camera issues, full visible enviroment for interaction that sort of thing.

Since the deluge of great reviews started coming in I've been wondering if the sales for Chinatown Wars were good enough would they put out a GTA for the Wii.  Guess time will tell, but I don't think they'll be interested.  Neither Bully or Manhunt II did well on the Wii (and I'm sure Table Tennis didn't do well either).  Granted, each sold poorly for different and logical reasons, but I have a feeling there's a bit of a distaste for the Wii over at Rockstar.

none of those games did well on any of the other consoles they were released though so how can it be the fault of the wii?  in fact what did rockstar ever do besides gta that was successful on any console?  all their other games have been pretty niche... on any console.

now if chinatown does poorly, especially after every review singing its praises, then rockstar would be right to feel a distaste and think twice before developing a gta on wii.

That's not true.  Bully did okay on the PS2.  Not exactly a record setter but Take-Two says it sold 1.5 million.  Not GTA levels, but it's tough to complain about sales when you reach that mark.

And they've had a few other games that did well.  The Warrior sold all right I think and the first  State of Emergency sold very well despite being complete crap.  Being the follow up to GTA 3 though, Rockstar's name was enough to make Castle of Shikigami III break a million in sales.

State of Emergency was awesome in two player. Kinda. Complete crap otherwise, though. Nyaa

Manhunt II was censored into crapnss, Table Tennis was a remake, and so was Bully, so they can suck if they dind't sell well, and they'd be stupid to judge their wii strategy on them.

Bully sold 400'000 on Wii. Good for a PS2 port IMO. It sold around the same on 360 as it sold on PS2, despite the 360 version being bugged to crap: 780'000.

The auto shop is listed under "Odd Jobs" on your GPS. At least I only have one of them so far, but I've had it since the very beginning when I accidentally stumbled upon it.

Anyway... I've been playing CW now from a full battery to empty, which would be about 6 hours unless my battery is really starting to get old. 17% done so far. If anything, I would say the drug dealing is TOO PLENTIFUL. Any time I go to do anything, I'll get 3 drug tips. I literally got myself down to $1 from loading up on so much drugs in a row... right before Uncle Kenny called needing $5k to buy a house LOL. I think I'll have to start only bothering with coke and heroine, maybe acid if I'm bored. If I waste my time with the cheaper stuff, I won't finish the game for another year Nyaa. Does anybody else find it really obvious when a bust is about to happen? There will be a police car driving by the dealer every 20 seconds, and like 3 cops on the sidewalk in front of it.

You don't have to do any drug deals really and you can just delete the emails immediately. When you go to GPS and dealers it shows the tips and the locations of all the dealers. What I do is put my stash as a favourite on the bottom screen so I can see what I have.

I have so much cash.

Did you guys try the bulldozer vehicle yet? Grinning

Did you try the taser Grinning Or the chaingun?

Just did the flamethrower crates mission. Quite fun. I prefer driving stuff to shooting stuff though. Where is my sniper rifle?

How much is "so much", like over $100k? The most cash I've had at one time so far is around $20k. I get kind of nervous carrying around too much money, I'll usually go buy a safehouse whenever I have more than that.

And yeah I bought a taser, and got a 4 star wanted level just standing outside my safehouse tazing cops. (Separate occasion) I also started hijacking every car in sight and killing the drivers, trying to make the largest roadblock ever. When an ambulance came to pick up the dead people I'd take the ambulances too... but after about 10 cars, they start to disappear Sad.

i thought the flamethrower was taking too long to torch those up so i went to a petrol station and filled about two dozen molotovs which took care of that mission.  it was pretty cool

I didn't even think of that, nice that you can approach it in a different way.

Ugh, review.

Well, it's a GTA game, the real deal, the whole enchilada. No scaling back, no casual version, no cheap DS spin off. This is a proper full openworld sandbox game.

Probably some of the best graphics on the DS, definetely the best 3-D engine. Gameplay is addictive as ever and better yet hassle free.

Everything about the game has been crafted with miniscule attention to detail, there is even car physics and desructible environments, original music good enough to make the big brother versions.

The combat can be too easy sometimes with the lock on, but its something of a pleasure as you can run amok. There are crazy things like chainsaws, taser guns, flamethrowers. The missions are where the game shines though. Nearly every review says that it shows up GTA IVs mission variety. I mean last night I was using the touch screen and d-pad to dance around at a Chinese street festival, dressed in a dragon costume. It's that varied.

The only thing its really missing is the voice work. There are voice samples for the city but no cutscene or radio chatshows.

The menus are initially confusing, but use the (i) icon for info and it walks you through everything, you can even customise your favourite icons.

All told its a very special game, if you love GTA, you pretty much have to own this.

It's fun. No kind of posturing as a movie, this is arcade GTA.

92- 94 % from me.

Oh yeah forgot to mention the drug dealing. You buy and sell various drugs from various dealers. There is a turf map and you can make huge profits.

It's so addictive you can ignore the main missions and just endlessly do that.

There isn't actually much to do with the money you make though. You can buy safehouses but the game has a save at any time feature so there isn't much point.

There is an auto merchant somewhere and a gun club but I haven't spotted them yet.

Does the Merchant say "What are you buyin'?"

I am hoping he got a new job somewhere.
