It's all part of a carefully designed plan. LOL

We should play a game where we buy up all old copies of Tekken and hide your Mass Effect disc in one random box. Then throw you into the room to find it.

Its magnificence will shine like a beacon of light through the poop.

 Not my poop.

I actually loved TTT! Sad

I wouldn't mind seeing a revival at all.

I loved it too and I definitely want a sequel and they better include a bowling mini-game as well.

The top ten of each platform has some interesting findings, especially on the Wii and PS3 side of things. Namely third vs first party and actual numbers.

For instance, the 4th best selling game on PS3 has around 4.6 million sales.

On the Wii chart, the 14th best selling game has the same sales.

Only one game in the Wii top ten is third party.

Looking at the Wii and 360 charts, both systems nail the PS3's top ten in sales terms.

I dunno if VGChartz lists the titles correctly but it's true there were that many Wii million sellers by last year. It was reported in many outlets as it came directly from Nintendo during the media summit.

They must be doing something right-ish (VGchartz that is) because I had to use the search and filter to get the numbers. And they add up to the very same number Nintendo quoted.

The point is that those games are singled out, but the games which sold less on other systems, which had bigger budgets and marketing spends to boot, aren't.

This was probably linked in the news page at the time but it's a great read and it's very relevant to the discussion at hand

Yeah I posted that in the updates a while back. Rob Fahey article if I remember. It's good stuff. It's not a puzzle, make great games, market them well.

EDGE online

Red Steel 2 Makes A Slow Start In The US

http://www.edge-online.com/news/red-steel-2-makes-a-slow-start-in-the-us

Ubisoft’s core-focused Red Steel 2 made a slow start in the US last month, selling just 50,000 copies during its first 12 days of availability.

Confirming the Wii exclusive’s early sales figure, a spokesperson for the publisher told
Kotaku: "Considering that the NPD sales only accounted for 12 days on the store shelves and that NPD doesn't include all retailers we are looking forward to a complete month of sales data to see where we stand."

While Ubisoft clearly hasn’t given up on the game, the title’s performance continues the trend of slow sales for action-oriented Wii games targeted at mature gamers. Notable casualties have included Sega’s
MadWorld and The Conduit, and EA’s Dead Space Extraction.

It’s also worth pointing out that the top performing title in the US last month, Sony’s PS3 exclusive God Of War III with
1.1 million copies sold, only launched seven days earlier than Red Steel 2.

While Wii launch game Red Steel went on to sell over one million units, Ubisoft CEO
Yves Guillemot said earlier this year that the company was halving its sales projection for the sequel to 500,000.

Red Steel 2 has been well received by critics, garnering a Metascore of 81, compared to the original’s 63.

In its debut week in the UK, Red Steel 2
placed fifth on the Wii chart but could only manage to make 34 on the all formats countdown.

The game’s performance is in stark contrast to that of Ubisoft’s casual-focused Wii exclusive Just Dance, which has topped the UK chart
for four weeks this year, helping it to become the third bestselling third party Wii game ever in the UK.

I'm bumping this thread because of this. NPD covers a month's sales. Red Steel 2 sales were only 12 days. Less than two weeks and the press is all over it already.

No one has made an article on how Call of Duty Modern Warfare REFLEX has sold a million since November despite no press and no marketing and the game being 2 years late. Red Steel 2 is already being lumped together with the collection of Madworld, the Conduit and Dead Space Extraction as examples of bad sales of third party games. Why aren't they making articles about how COD REFLEX has sold a million since November?

BTW, Darkside Chronicles has jumped from 500k to 540k sales now.

Lol  @ comparing it to God of War. Shall we compare God of War to Wii Sports/Wii Fit and call it a major flop of epic proportions that shows PS3 can't sell any title regardless of the insane amounts of cash thrown in their dev?

And nobody talks about how No More Heroes HD flopped just as hard as on Wii (in Japan, the Western Wii release sold pretty good as we all know, but Japan doesn't like Suda/NMH I guess) even though the combined PS360 first day sales were a tiny bit more than the Wii's first day sales (meaning both PS3 and 360 versions performed worse individually than the Wii SKU). Destructoid even made a spin article saying it was within a top X for first day sales, without mentioning exact sales numbers, even though there weren't (m)any notable releases at all that week so of course it'd be within the top titles even though it sold like crap (which it did, so far, I suppose it may pick up pace, but if it was a Wii release they'd have already condemned it). I'm sad for Marvelous, they must have invested a lot (possibly more than the original game even) to make two SKUs, redo the graphics, and do all that marketing with the celebrities and what not, which they didn't do for the Wii version, and it still didn't help, but they brought this on themselves. I hope they don't close down or anything though, but either way Grasshopper will likely continue on. Even I was expecting much better sales, say 100-200k LTD due to all the marketing and hype they seemed to be building but I guess it was more hype from people in the West who liked seeing one of Wii's exclusives go HD.

I think that the HD remake of NMH cost more to make than the original game.

The port was given to Feelplus to remake. Apparently SUDA and Grasshopper didn't have anything to do with it. They were concentrating on NMH2.

I think Marvelous wanted to get into the HD action market and saw a remake of an already successful game as the best way to go about it. It looks cool to me and if it's ever released in the West at a cheap price I'll pick it up.

The game flopped in Japan so that couldn't have been the reason. It became more succesful in the West but marvelous likely didn't see as much of that money since it was brought by other publishers. They thought it would do better in HD and invested more than they should have. Either they thought they could replicate Western success or they thought the reason it flopped there was the Wii, both proven wrong now. I hope it doesn't bring them to a close or anything though.

likewise, i really love the game and i would be happy to buy a PS3 version for something reasonable like £25 just to do my part in supporting them but the wii version looks fine to me and plays great.  can't wait to get my hands on desperate struggle in a couple of weeks.
