Why did the name change from "Insert Coin" occur?

I believe only a couple of us liked that name at the time, most didn't.

I'm back from hell in Doom for the second time after the crucible.

One thing that weird me out is the environments before hell and early hell made sense thematically.

Then hell becomes very, Square, with lots of square underground caverns. And so many power ups, health, ammo and body armour, hell now looks like it's scattered with candy.

Early hell made sense, rocky outcrops, some spikes, lots of skulls and skeletons. Then you're in these caverns and temple like structures and you start wondering, demons built this?

The same demons who run straight into walls, or the ones who have no limbs? Did they unionise in the past?

I'm guessing there's some deep lore to read into, but on the surface at least, the improbability of the world is quite vexing.

Not since GG's Endless Ocean thread being linked to from Go Nintendo! Big times, indeed

Ah, fond memories of being the 1 person in the world who received COD Black Ops on Wii early.

C&VG quoted me trashing it, word for word. "It looks like a PSP game"

I'm guessing this hurt Treyarch, hard.

Job listings show the new Perfect Dark is in development for Switch 2 and PS5.

The new Fable seems to be coming to both consoles too.

Meanwhile Nintendo have patented a predictive technology for finger tracking on a controller. It senses finger movements around buttons so it can tell what you're going to do. It could make controllers feel a lot more responsive.

Or it could let the game pre-empt your moves, cheating your ass.

I'm not interested in any Nintendo controllers until they finally release the Vitality Sensor.

The Sims 1 & 2 Get Re-Release From EA

I'm on the fence with getting the Sim 2. It was the last non-mobile video game that my wife enjoyed, and my son has also been curious about it. But I don't think either of them would really play it for more than one sitting. If it were $20, I'd scoop it up immediately, but the $30 price tag is making me pause.

So I think I have officially put away Vampyr. Very frustrating, because I do like the game, but I just can't deal with all the frequent crashing. This morning was the last straw. A mini boss fight occurred in one of the streets as I was trying to complete a mission, and in the middle of the fight it crashed. So I restarted, and again midway through the battle it crashed. I think that was the eighth time in about 5 hours of gameplay???

So anyway, that's what I tried to play this weekend. Also, I streamed Kirby's Rainbow Curse a little bit. From an audience standpoint, it's interesting. Lots of people like to pop in and ask what it is. It gets mistaken for the DS game, Kirby's rainbow attack. Most people have never heard of it though, probably due to being a Wii u title. However, most people don't hang around very long to watch it. It lacks that level of familiarity that keeps most people hanging around.

I’m always a little skeptical when it comes to predictive technology. While it may work most of the time it’s the odd chances when it doesn’t work that I don’t want it to affect my gameplay.

I'd hold off for now. A lot of people have had technical issues with them. EA said that they are working on fixes now.

That's kind of bizarre to hear. I guess getting older games to work on modern day operating systems is more complex than I would have guessed.

I finally figured out how to beat the third level boss in Ninja Gaiden using just the sword! It took me a lot tries to figure out where to stand and the proper timing of the boss and bullets. I'm sure if I actually had some magic powers when I got there, it would've been much easier, but I can't seem to get there with anything useful. Now onward to the fourth level! Grinning

I'm on the final boss in Doom.

I still haven't figured out what the green power up is that's surrounded by spinning metal rings. I can never pick it up.

Lol I think its BFG ammo, which i never use, so I can never pick up the ammo.

Edit: I've been watching Doom Eternal and Doom the Dark Ages videos.

I feel like my brains playing tricks on me. I can't see any difference in graphical fidelity. There's more character models though.

What's going on, is it a cross gen game or is it diminishing returns?

This weekend I've been playing Ninja Gaiden (NES), Contra OG (PS5), Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse (SMS) and Super Mario Bros 2 Allstars (SNES).

I nearly finished Castle of Illusion last night, but ran out of lives. The game gives you a generous 9 continues, but I want to beat it without using them. It's been over 30 years since I last played all the way through it, and I still remember a lot of it. The timing on the spinning tree boss gives me the most trouble so far.

I've been playing Nina Gaiden II Black this weekend. I may be about halfway through the game.

That predictive technology sounds a lot like how the Quest2 senses where your fingers are rested. Basically it meassures the weight of your fingers and thumbs on each button, even if you're not pressing down on it. Quest 2 uses this to accurately show your hands on the controller.

This weekend I returned to playing Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and played some Contra: Operation Galuga. Also watched WWE Royal Rumble. It’s kind of nice having WWE on Netflix now. Kind of miss all the stuff the WWE Network had but it’s one less monthly expense.

Works okay most of the time, but not good enough to improve button presses, I'd say.

Sony patented something similar with the use of a camera.  The only way this could improve response time is if the game actually starts doing some calculations in parallel to anticipate wether or not you will press the button.  Overall I don't see this resulting in big gains.  Lets be realistic: how long does it take for the electric puls to register?  I don't think there's any method to really spead that up, save for shorter travel time on pressing down the button.  Anything else will be software anticipating your actions.  On the other hand, guestimates seems to be where the big gains will be from now on, as that's exactly what AI brings to the table.

Agreed, but given the usefulness of predictive text, I'm sceptical. Nyaa
