How do you guys feel about ageing videogame characters?

I'm a bit put off SF6 when I see Ryu, Ken, M.Bison and Sagat in their older form.

Capcom seem to think making characters older means hairy, unshaven, slovenly dressed, beat up and scared and generally looking like hobos.

It feels like an insult to one of my fondest memories, playing SF2 in arcades in the 90s.

I’m fine with ageing video game characters myself. Like the Street Fighter 6 older designs of the legacy characters.

If Indiana Jones was 80 in the last game, would that be fine or is the one in his prime better?

I think videogames are one medium where you can keep characters eternally young.

I like it when characters age and ultimately age out of a game. For some games, I think it helps to keep them from getting stale.

And fuck it man. I'm getting older and more broken down. They should too.

So this weekend I subscribed to PlayStation plus give myself a chance to test out some games I was looking at. So far I haven't been overly impressed.

I first checked out Returnal. I can't decide the game is either genius or just fucking terrible. Either way, I'm not real good at it, but at the same time I can't tell whether or not that is by design or not. But after 4 hours, I haven't really progressed the story much. So I've decided to write it off. Really happy I tested it, because I have had that in my shopping cart for a while, and it just doesn't seem like it's for me.

I also tried out Dredge. It's supposed to be a Lovecraftian fishing game. The idea is neat, and it's got a lot of elements that should be drawing me in, but it's just not happening. I think it's a little too light on direction. Part of me feels bad because I really haven't given it a fair shake yet, but at the same time I need more out of a game than the town mayor saying, "nobody knows how you got here, but why didn't you go out and catch some fish? Oh and don't go out at night."

Wouldn’t bother me to be honest. Would find it pretty hilarious though playing an Indiana Jones game as an old Indy. LOL

Not saying developers have to age their characters just that I don’t mind if they do.

Oh, and one last gripe. While I was going through the catalog on PlayStation Plus, I saw the Last of Us PS5 remake. I wasn't really dying to play the game again at this point in time, but the idea of playing Factions was extremely appealing.

Unfortunately, I quickly learned that they did not remake Factions along with the main game. And that still pisses me off. Next to splatoon, I think factions was my favorite online gaming of the past 10 or 15 years. I'd say it's hard to believe Sony fumbled that, but then there was the whole Concord fiasco, and Factions looks like a minor bump in the road compared to that.

That's why I bought all of their classic costumes immediately after purchase. I don't buy DLC, but it was worth it on SF6.

Depends on the game but I prefer classic characters to mostly be timeless.

Tried the demo, fishing on a grid seems tedious.

I wouldn't mind it if there was a vast selection of grandpa complaints I could blurt out whenever I wanted at the press of a button.

How much did that cost? I've been seeing clips of Sagat coming to SF6.

I assume paid for dlc? I had the expectation that all the old faves would just be there day 1.

It would be neat to see a game, say Uncharted, where aging affects the character. Maybe its more difficult to climb or they have less stamina. So the gamer may have to get creative in going from point A to point B.

You can unlock all of the classic costumes for free by playing the open world RPG mode; I didn't like that mode at all, so I bought the costumes. I don't remember how much I paid.

This weekend I played a lot of Mario Kart World and a lot of Tears of the Kingdom. Just like every weekend since I got the Switch 2. But now my wife has rediscovered Animal Crossing so I don't always get to use the Switch when I have free time.

I don't like that mode either.

So this is nuts. I started watching Lucifer on Netflix, only with my dad as he likes formulaic crime shows. There's this character in the first season called.Rogue,.she's a fixer in LA.

And in Cyberpunk there is a fixer called Rogue in new LA City of dreams etc.

Not interesting so far right, but the character models looks exactly the same as the actress in the episode with the same weird hairdo.

I tried goggling pics of the actress but couldn't find anything.

I spent a little more time with Returnal. I think I finally made a little bit more progress, which is encouraging. So I'll stick with this for a little while long.

Went to this rooftop party in Cyberpunk where some pro USA militia was having a shooting competition.

Was really enjoying it until I accidentally double jumped. Somehow the entire crowd assumed I was attacking them, so about 60 people started attacking me.

I jumped off the roof into my batmobile and sped off. Then drove back to return to the party once they calmed down.

Within minutes the entire shindig shutdown and it was a boring quiet area.

Anyone else hate clicking the left stick in to run in games?

I wouldn't mind it if you could just click then push forward to run.

Instead you have to push the stick forward then apply downward pressure too. Because the stick is pressed forward you're actually then having to click the stick downwards and back in the opposite direction.

I've been using the Switch 2 button remapping to fix this in certain games.

Wtf, is Neogaf no longer safe to browse in public? 😂

JD Williams seems to have plastered the site with women's lingerie adverts.

You can't even get away while scrolling, it's repeated multiple times on a single scroll.
