I reckon Nintendo thinks this is the last chance they have to say anything about th eoriginal Switch that anyone will pay attention to and the focus will be:

- Hey Switch owners, there is still plenty coming your way

- Hey Switch owners, don't worry your games will play into the next generation when you are rady to join it with Switch 2

- Hey Switch owners, your library will carry over to the next generation when you are ready to joint it with Switch 2.

So they can focus on the features of Switch 2 with the big announcement.

I've tried it in game mode and the image quality is dull.

I adjusted my TVs game mode advanced settings to match my favorite non-gaming preset, so it's near identical.

Can you drop by my house and do the same? I've spent hours trying to figure it out. I'll pay you with a boxed copy of Civ 2 for PC.

Switch Direct was okay but I only saw the back end, at work.

Prime 4 looks good. Virtual game cards are weird. Lending a game to family is good.

I thought you could already log in to whatever Switch you own and download your games? I did a system transfer to the OLED and just redownloaded all my games.

The Virtual game card thing, the way it registers sounds a lot like how it already works on switch. I never got the family account thing,.can you share games on it?

An ok Direct. The highlights for me were:

  • Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake
  • Metroid Prime 4
  • Saga Frontier Remastered
  • Gradius Origins
  • Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Metroid Prime 4 looks very nice.  A better looking Metroid Prime is all I'd want, but a lot of people seem to complain it doesn't take the formula forward.  We've been waiting for this for 20 years, who cares if it plays similar?

Virtual cards seem to only exist to close the loophole of playing a digital game simultaneously on 2 Switches like me and my son did when we played through Portal2 co-op.  Very anti-consumer.

Not a terrible direct, especially with the switch 2 literally around the corner.

Raido Remastered looks good enough even if it's just another take on the smt formula.

I really don't like that Shadow labyrinth dark and spooky Pac-Man game.

Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar should be fun. The DS version was good anyway. I will say this looks lazy as fuck though. Nothing interesting about the design at all. There's a reason why Stardew Valley pretty much owns this entire genre now. If no one wants to move anything forward, why pay for a new game when the stardew valley dude puts out a big update free every year?

Fuck Rhythm Heaven.

My son is actually going to be excited about Tomodatchi Life. Can't say I really care about it, but if we get a Switch 2, that might be one of the first games we pick up.

And Prime 4 looks fine. I agree with the philosophy that it's okay if it doesn't do anything new since there hasn't been a new game in the Prime series in ages. That said, I don't think Nintendo is showing their full hand on this game at all. Based on the little we know about it, nothing really strikes me as a reason why they needed to restart development from scratch. With Retro involved, I think there's something big going on that they're not showing yet.

Oh, and I liked seeing the additional character in Dragon Quest 2. I hope they add a little more though. The that was the worst game in the series by a long shot. It's going to need a lot of QOL improvements and some additional content to make it worth spending 30 hours with.

They Always Run is actually pretty awesome.

Now I've got a handle on the combat and got a few key upgrades I can handle most situations.

This is like your dream Star Wars bounty Hunter game, it looks like Star Wars concept art come to life.

Really fluid platforming, cool atmosphere, interplanetary travel.

It would be pretty cool if my nephew got a switch 2 which his dad was promising him for years, but probably won't.

Then I could cost free lend digital games to him. Costs me nothing and gains me brownie points.

Metroid Prime 4 has me thinking. The kiwi talks guy who interviewed Retro staff said that Prime 4 would blow away everything at the Switch 2 direct.

But Extas a youtuber leaker said it won't be at the Switch 2 direct.

And so it showed up in the Switch 1 direct and didn't blow anything away. Which makes me remember another rumour that Metroid Prime 5 was being co-developed at the same time as Prime 4.

What if there's a Prime 5 that will be shown at the Switch 2 direct. Or a version of Prime 4 that has been custom built on switch 2 tech? Or enhanced and expanded in a way switch 1 can't?

Maybe you could have seamless travel from ground to ship and fly your ship over to the next area so the whole game world is seamless.

Wait, Sony is publishing Everybody s Golf for Switch?

Could have picked some more high profile titles.

Oh wait, Bandai is publishing it, but they were Sony exclusives.

They’re saving those for the Switch 2.

These virtual game cards are so Nintendo.

They have a good idea, then make it so convoluted that it's such a pain in the ass that you probably won't use it.

So I'm just going off what I remember, can't be bothered looking at it again. Firstly you can only lend games to people on your family switch online account.

Then you can only lend someone 1 game at a time. Then this lending has to be done in person using local wireless communication.

Then the lending period expires after 2 weeks, so if your nephew can't bust through Breath of the Wild in 2 weeks in-between school, I have to physically go to his house to RE lend the game back to him?

Also the Virtual game card sounds a lot like how digital games work on Switch already, minus the lending.

When you download a game you get a card (icon) on your system and even if you delete it you can redownload it from the icon.

You also have a list on the eshop where you can redownload any digital game you've bought.

Now I transferred my system info to the OLED and using my account I could redownload everything.

Why not just have an option to lend the game to a linked friend/family online and let it work digitally without local communication.

All this will only mean family has to come together to lend games. Strengthening the family..... and weakening my sanity.

Yeah, that Virtual Game Card stuff seemed a bit convoluted. Nintendo gonna Nintendo I guess. LOL

Not something I’ll ever use though. My family members can buy their own damn games. Nyaa
