Well, my intricate knowledge gained by 5 minutes of websearching sure spooked the helpdesk employee.    He got back to me that while Nintendo doesn't do refunds, for this exceptional case he sent it on to their 'specialized team' to look into a 'different outcome'.  And so the waiting continues!

I used to be able to speak on the telephone to an ebay agent who would smooth things out. Now they bury the contact form like it's the lost city of gold.
