Speaking of  difficult arcade games, I've been playing Capcom's Commando on Switch. Commando is my favorite Atari 7800 game. The amount of enemies, bullets, grenades and speed of it all is way, way more intense on the arcade version. It's a lot of fun but almost feel like I had a workout playing it with my arcade stick. LOL

I bought that recently. Me and my brother used to play on an old PC. I had to hammer the shoot button endlessly while he aimed.

At least there's a rapid fire button on the arcade collection. I much prefer Mercs, was there ever a sequel?

BTW I gave up on Strider, just use invincibility and soak up the vibes.

There was a Commando/Mercs sequel on Xbox 360/PS3, IIRC. I remember playing a demo but didn't like it enough to buy it.

Edit: The 7800 Commando has a machine gun power up for rapid fire. I'd forgotten that power up wasn't in the arcade version originally; it should have been.

The short bullet range is annoying.

Oh... it was this.

We need a 2D sequel. I'm buying Shock Troopers when it's on sale.

History

A short while ago, I played and reviewed Andro Dunos 2 which is a follow-up to an arcade game from the '90s and Ganryu 2 is the exact same idea. In fact, both original games were developed by Visco Corporation and their new sequels are published by Just For Games and Pixelheart. Considering these are both high quality releases, I can't wait to see what else they bring back! Anyway, Ganryu originally released in 1999 and just like the first Andro Dunos game, it wasn't anything particularly special. However, this new game is fantastic!

Interesting.

Also there are these developers (Tengo project) who have rejuvenated old IPs fantastically.

The same developer that did Shadow on the Ninja Reborn, did Pocky and Rocky Reshrined and the Ninja Warriors remake.

And another shooting gallery game I can't remember the name of.

They've been quietly toiling away, creating great retro remakes and follow ups to old titles.

I'm getting them but because they are new remakes the price never goes as low as actual old games.

I never understood that they were new remakes and not just old arcade games ported so I always thought they were overpriced.

However after trying the demo for Shadow of the Ninja reborn and reading up on the developer, I'm totally sold.

The other game I forgot that they remade is Wild Guns Reloaded.

I decided to give OpenMW (Morrowind source port engine) a try and it's now the only way I'll play Morrowind PC. Adds resolutions up to 4K, widescreen, UI upscale, shaders, increase draw distances with a slider, and includes controller support too. Super easy to install and it found my Gog Morrowind files without issue.

I'm playing it vanilla but it supports mods if you want as well.

Morrowind is my favorite Elders Scrolls game and this makes it so much more enjoyable to play these days.

I beat Ganryu 2.

The final boss was a real bitch. I must have died 40 times.

And once you run out of your 3 to 5 lives you have to restart the whole level.

The game is so addictive I didn't care if I died I just ran back through the level chopping down fools. I eventually entered this zen state where I could predict and avoid most of his attacks.

In the last couple of minutes I was surprisingly calm, before I would be panicking that one more hit is the end. And it was hit him one last time, avoid that one last attack...

And then I chopped that fools forehead to death. So good.

I'm really enjoying it and there's a lot to do.  In fact, I've only finished my second dungeon because I've been pretty busy with other tasks.  You might think it would be tedious to search through the inventory to find which echo would work best but it really isn't. It fun to figure out how to proceed.

Silent Hill 2 Remake reviews are praising the game. I never played this series before; I might give it a try later this month.

That's good, Bloober team made The Observer which is a good game. Layers of Fear series, I own both but only played number 1.

So I forgot about Nintendo patents for their mystery device with a motion sensor. This guy who used to work at a patent office explained what the patent meant, in terms of the codes and categories applied for.

Apparently it's a cube shaped device like a smaller gamecube. It also is "portable" in that it has an in built battery so you can move it around.

Plus it has a screen.

Radio alarm clock? Sleep sensor? The patent reveal timing is suspicious as the secrecy clauses expire around the rumoured switch 2 launch date.

Also there's been another patent for Switch 2 using the screen for VR which looks a lot like the switch 1 patent/labo.

Ubisoft is having a really bad year.

I can't remember the last Ubisoft game I bought. It's been a long while.

Edit: Id forgot I bought Farcry 1 on Gog sale for $3 last weekend. You're welcome, Ubisoft. Happy

Yeah it definitely seems to have turned out better then I was expecting. I played the original and it was a pretty twisted psychological horror game.
