Braid Anniversary Edition has ‘sold like dog sh*t’

I saw this a couple days ago, and I don't think I could be any less surprised. Braid was a very interesting game when it came out, but I think it's legacy is as a part of that first wave of surprisingly good indie games rather how good of a game it actually was. Plus, the big deal about it was the twist ending, not really the gameplay.

So I guess the long story short here is people really are lining up to buy another copy of it if they hadn't gotten their hands on it over the past 15 years.

I tried the demo for Braid back in the day, and didn't find it appealing. The artstyle was awful and the gameplay had largely already been done in Prince of Persia Sands of Time.

Yeah, I couldn't really get into it either.

Bought Braid back when it first came out. Thought it was ok but wasn’t particularly wowed by it. Got stuck on a level and just never returned to it.

i started this post yesterday, but never finished it. Been playing Teardown and A Plague Tale. Got itch installs working on new PC so will get some indie games in.

Regretably I am going away for 5 days, so won't have access to gaming PC Sad At least I will have Switch, PS4, Atari 2600, NES and SNES and PS1.  Oh and a laptop.

Ugh, the Windows 11 fails continue.  All of a sudden, Windows' own calendar app wouldn't syncronize anymore, resulting in a lot of confusion and -hopefully- no missed appointments.  I deleted the account from the app and then found I couldn't add it again.  I kept getting an error code.  Half an hour of googling didn't bring any resolve.

Solution?  Add my non-professional account to the app and share my professional agenda with my non-professional account.  It works, but it's a bit of a ramshackle solution and I don't know long it'll last me.  And still they insist that I 'upgrade' to their new online only calendar app.  indecision

So anyone hyped for the new 'the Legend of Link' game in which you play as Zelda?  there was a new trailer released yesterday.

Personally I'm not feeling it.  Zelda games hinge on the balance between combat and puzzles, and by relegating combat to an indirect affair, it too becomes puzzley in nature.  I also don't know how long I'll find conjuring beds out of thin air amusing.  Not a fan of the graphical style either.

But hey, the kids are super enthousiastic, so I'm sure I'll play it anyhow.

Something interesting happened last night.

I was playing Ace Attorney Apollo Justice on a 1080p tv.

For some reason these remakes look awesome in 4k, but are a bit jaggy in 720p on the Switch screen.

And a bit jaggy when I play them on a 1080p tv. Then I thought, what if it's the sharpening on the tv. So reduced it till there wasn't a single jaggy.

Basically I turned sharpening on the tv completely off. And it changed the way the game looked completely. It started to look less like a game and more like a super high quality 2D cinematic movie.

It really Enhanced the animated look of the game. I'm now thinking of disabling sharpening with all 2D games that have high quality artwork to see if it has the same effect. Doubt it will work with pixel art though.

I was rereading some of the stories out there about Game Informer ending its publication, but the big thing I missed was that they've also deleted the archive of it. As of right now, there is no access to the digital copies of the back issues. I'm sure they don't get a lot of traction, but it's always a shame when digital content gets removed forever.

On that subject, I had a brilliant idea. I'm going to reach out to my good buddy Miyamoto later, but I think Nintendo needs to offer an archive to the back issues of Nintendo Power for all NSO subscribers. It would bring another level of fun to playing some of their old games.

Good luck with that. Nintendo can't even be bothered to include the manuals or any instructions at all for the games on NSO.

Yeah it didn't work out. Miyamoto told me to go fornicate with myself. Then he went on some rant about Western game collectors ruining the secondary market in Tokyo, and called me a blue-eyed foreign devil and to never speak to him again.

He seems a bit crankier than usual. I have a suspicion he lost a lot in the stock market yesterday.

Maybe he's pissed Nintendo won't let him make a new Wave Race and F-Zero, and just shills Mario movies and theme parks now.

Well that’s not good. Maybe he’s just stressing over developing StarTropics III.

That's probably it. Sure, it's been in development for 30 years at this point, but you can't rush greatness. Still, I'm sure someone at Nintendo headquarters is tapping their foot and asking for an update.

The wife picked up Luigi's Mansion 2 for me as a really early birthday present. Loving it!

It is shitty alright. Game Informer also had a legendary collection of games and gaming related advertising, press releases etc... I hope they got all that out of there. Sad

It's not classy the way GameStop fired them on the spot with no warning.

It's pretty much par for the course for GameStop. I've known a few people who work for them over the years, including my daughter, and all, but some of the most hardcore video game geeks have said it's just an awful place.  And the ones that did like it were regional managers who got tickets for E3, which was their sole reason for living.

And fun fact, in 1998, a college-aged Robio was offered a job at FuncoLand, which would be gobbled up by GameStop about 2 years later. Had I taken that job though, there was a realistically good chance I could have gone to work at the corporate office at some point down the road since it was only about 20 minutes from where I lived. So I too could have had tickets for E3 and been mostly miserable.
