Also Balatro remains the best indie in years. Play this game! It's secretly a math game. Woo math!

The Digital Foundry article on the PS5 Pro leak raises a good question: What's the point of it?  Due to silicon prices not dropping fast enough, the raw compute power upgrade isn't as profound as it was last generation and further gains will depend on how well Sony's own machine learning software will perform.  Furthermore, is an upgrade really worth it if all you're getting is minimal gains with some RT extra's sprinkled on top?  When the PS4 Pro launched, it did so alongside the rise of 4K TV's as the dominant resolution in the mainstream market.  There was a clear and easily understandable incentive to upgrade.  There is no such easy sales pitch now, so who will buy this except for enthousiasts?

I'm curious about the price and performance of the PS5 Professional, but I won't be getting one. I'd much rather put that money on a new PC in a couple years.

At least I the US, Philips primarily focuses on making medical equipment. Ultrasound equipment, heart monitors, various oxygen, monitors and equipment, etc. I haven't heard them really even spoken up into consumer electronics space for a while though. Sounds like they might have just shifted their focus to the medical stuff where the real money is and went out the name to any other company that wants to make home electronics.

They made tvs, stereos, toothbrushes, razors, hair dryers etc here. I think they were a Dutch company. Their relevance has faded over the years.

PS5 Pro kind of screams "treading water." People will definitely want it, but I don't think it's going to open up sales to people who didn't already have a ps5 already. The only thing that gets those consumers is a price cut.

I don't want to say that Sony is in panic mode right now, but they definitely seem like they're directionless as far as what to do with the PlayStation brand. They've been betting a lot on VR for about 10 years now, and I think PSVR2 was proof that the audience just isn't there. Overall, PS5 sales are good, on a worldwide level, but I think the last tracking I saw showed that it was going to probably sell no better than PS4 or maybe even slightly behind.

Been working a bunch, overtime is nice pay.  Still playing loads of FF7 which is amazing, it started off slow but it's really picking up. These last few bosses and all the materia and characters I've unlocked has solidified this game as the best combat system in FF history to me. It mixed ATB combat strategy with real time action so damn well, it's brilliant. Every boss is an absolute blast to fight against, all of them with different strategies.

Rebirth is basically half combat and half mini game. This game has more mini games than Nintendo land. It's ridiculous and I love it!

For sure. I’m currently on Chapter 12 and the amount of content and effort that SquareEnix put into this game is mind blowing. The combat is fantastic and I’ve fought against so many amazing boss fights so far. Game is simply incredible.

Is anyone playing Helldivers 2?? I saw that this game was the number one seller on NPD for February. And about a week ago I actually heard two guys talking about it at the grocery store, which was maybe the first time I've heard people talking about a video game outside of an actual video game store in years.

I literally know nothing about it, and it's one of those moments that's making me feel like I have no clue what is popular with the general gaming population these days.

So I ordered a replacement tv for 1080p and below consoles and DVD watching etc.

Did you guys know that 1080p is a dying format?

They do small 720p tvs and big 4ktvs. But it's really hard to find a small 1080p or small 4ktv.

And small tvs aren't really a thing with the bigger TV companies anyway.

So this LG TV I got "There’s a direct backlight and quad-core processing for improved upscaling, sharper images and more accurate colours. There’s also full calibration controls and a range of picture modes that include one with a low input lag for gaming. The LM63 even supports HDR10 and HLG, with the latter used by BBC iPlayer, to ensure the best possible high dynamic range experience. "

From the review saying its the best 32 inch set.

I did not know about this quad core better upscaling. As someone who wants to preserve legacy content I feel like this should be a marketing point for all tvs, and would sway me towards buying bigger tvs too.

1080p is on the way out for sure. 1440p monitors are starting to take over the PC side and 4K is standard now for consumer TVs.

There's going to be a push in the next 5 years for 8K TVs but according to Richard at DF, 8K isn't worth it.

And yet they're propping up 720p as the lowbar rather than 1080p sets, cause they can make more profit.

That's like, years ago, still selling 480p tvs and 1080p tvs while leaving out 720p.

I don't recall seeing a 720p TV  for a while. I thought those are all phased out by now.

I bought a 32 inch Amazon Fire TV that was 720p last year. Just something for streaming that sits at the foot of our bed. Turned out to be a good Wii TV too.

So I finished Tinykin. It's soooo good.

20hrs to beat. Still some race challenges I can go back too.

Don't sleep on this game, I haven't played a platformer as good in ages.

So, I then started Yooka Laylee...

When I tried it months ago for 10 minutes it seemed surprisingly good. But actually getting into the meat of the first level/world, brings up all sorts of issues.

The layout and design of the first world, all looks so similar you can't get a bearing on where you are, or where you should be going.

You can climb to the top of high structures and there's nothing up there. No reward for all the work you put it. Waste of time.

You can double jump, but can't choose when to initiate your second jump. If you want to jump down quite far, instead of pulling off your 2nd jump at near ground level, you just drop and take damage.

The camera sometimes wigs out.

There are characters who will literally refuse to talk to you with no explanation as to why.

You can roll and jump in a ball. And the game requires you to do so and platform at the same time through timed rings. Only you can only forward roll. So if you push forward and land on a largish rock, you pull back on the stick to move a little bit back. But you can't roll back like Metroid Prime, instead you forward roll in a wide arc to turn yourself around and in the process fall off the platform. At which point you have to scale back up to try again, and again, and again.

There are ramps which lead to nowhere, like driving on a road that just stops with nothing at the end and no reason to exist.

The enemies are terrible so far, crap AI, they literally just stand there doing nothing, or lazily amble towards you.

The gobble text gets old, fast. And yet in Tinykjn it doesn't and I realised why. The characters in Yooka have nothing to say.  It's all so uninteresting that I will talk to a character, walk away from it and literally can't remember what they said.

That said, technically its a great port. Clean, crisp with a smooth frame rate, large draw distance etc and good image quality.

I played Yooka Laylee for 3 or 4 hours when I got it for a few dollars on a Switch sale. It was fun but lost interest in it quickly. I should give it another go sometime. Same with Banjo 1.
