The more amazing thing about no longer having manuals is how it was completely embraced by all publishers at once. It's not like a few did it at a time and gradually over a 10-year period manuals no longer existed. Even Nintendo didn't drag their feet with it.
I really miss Nintendo's full color manuals. I studied the Super Mario 64 manual to learn all of his new moves. Zelda 1 came with a full color manual and overworld map.
I still have around 30 Atari 2600 manuals. They feel like works of art with goofy stories setting up the game. For instance in Centipede you play an Elf named Oliver who lives in an Enchanted Forest with a community of good elves. One day Oliver finds a magic wand and learns to shoot magic bolts at the evil centipede, spider, flea and scorpion invading his home.
Thatβs probably the higher end depending on materials and number of pages.

That was probably a huge blow to the companies who manufactured them.
Well, I made it to the 5th and final floor in Enter the gungeon.
The Gungeon gods were good to me and gave me an item that gifted me armour every floor, a freezing gun, the disintegrator gun which is pretty insane. They also gave me double jump boots and a throne that sent out bullets every time I did a dodge roll.
They bring in this enemy like the hand that drops down in Zelda, only its faster and damages you and happens multiple times every room. There's no time to get used to its timing when you're already dodging other enemies.
And now the game wants 6 hearts to unlock the permanent lift to the 5th floor.
You only have 3 heart containers. If you're lucky you can buy or receive one extra.
Otherwise the only way to gain extra heart containers is to beat a boss while taking zero damage.
So they want you to be able to beat 3 bosses without taking a single hit.
And expect you to be able to have all 6 hearts at full capacity at the point you give them to the elevator mechanic πππππππ

The Nintendo Direct had some pretty nice announcements in it. Here's a quick rundown of my thoughts.
1. The Wii Sports sequel is long overdue I think. I'm not sure I'm overly curious about playing badminton, but just having bowling and tennis back will be nice, and seeing golf on the list for the Fall pretty much completes everything I want.
2. Square-Enix is really cleaning house with their old library huh? Live-a-Live is definitely the highlight for me. I've always been curious about that game ever since I discovered that Square had a bunch of games they never released in the west. Now that this in front mission will be available the only 16-bit classic that they haven't touched will be Bahumut Lagoon. So it's just a matter of time for that.
On a side note, they are really getting a lot of use out of the 2-D HD engine, aren't they?
3. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was a pretty big surprise. Not that I'm interested, but I'm happy that people who enjoy it will have another installment.
4. And wow, we're not getting Mario kart 9, but we are getting 48 more tracks? Dear god. That should be a lot of fun.
5. And finally it's nice to see the earthbound games are coming to the system free of charge. I doubt I'll ever play them again, but nice to know they're available for other people.
It's an interesting idea to push the Expansion Pack since half of all Switch owners have Mario Kart 8. I'm kind of on the fence, but I'll probably just buy it outright.
On the subject of Mario Kart though, I was playing it a few weeks ago for the first time in about a year and yikes.... Either I've gotten very bad or everyone else has gotten very good. I was very good at Kart once upon a time, but I was struggling just to come into the top four the last time I played.
Yeah pretty solid Nintendo Direct. A lot of stuff I liked in there. Definitely hyped for Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Great to see Chrono Cross Remastered in there and pretty close to release. Kind of wished it looked a bit better but still Iβm just happy to see this franchise getting any kind of attention. Kind of surprised that theyβre bringing dlc to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, figured they would have just focused on Mario Kart 9. 48 tracks is a lot and $25 is a pretty good price. Will definitely get that. Cool seeing those Front Mission games coming out. Do want. Triangle Strategy and the new Kirby game both look great. Do want those as well.

The incuded comic book was cool. 2600 Defender aslo came with a comic book, which I own.

However I died within 3 rooms on level 5. π©

I had that game back in the day. I would have been totally lost. Same with River Raid. Why are we even raiding this river?![LOL](/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
Keep at it. I believe in you.
If I can make it to the boss and beat the 4th boss without taking damage I will have the 6 hearts. Assuming I don't get hit by other enemies.
All I did was load up with blanks and used a Ghost busters Proton pack.
The game has loads of famous guns like the Cerebral bore from Turok 2 and James Bonds Golden Gun.
To steal natural resources, of course.![Nyaa](/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
Well all right then smartass.![Nyaa](/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
I'm down to 3 hearts. Need to beat the 4th floor boss without getting hit. If I do I'll have 4 hearts.
Then I've got to get 2 extra hearts before dying on the 5th floor. π©

48 new Mario Kart 8 courses will cost $150 total once all are released. That's crazy but I will buy them all.
In the alternative is get it for free if you have Nintendo expansion pack.
Well, that's much better!

Just bought Earthbound Beginnings a couple of months ago on the Wii U eShop.![LOL](/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
Well itβs cool that I can also play it on the Switch now as well.
