Oh shit, I'm 2 years too late:

When is the last day to buy software in the Wii Shop?
January 30, 2019: The last day to have purchased software in the Wii Shop. In the future, we will be closing all services related to the Wii Shop Channel, including redownloading purchased WiiWare, Virtual Console titles, and Wii Channels, as well as Wii System Transfer Tool, which transfers data from the Wii console to the Wii U console.

But the info page says I need a transfer tool from the Wii Shop Channel and that even the transfer icon on the Wii u (wii) menu  isn't the actual program and will direct you to the Wii eshop, which is now dead?

Interesting, this guy had the same problem and Nintendo somehow helped him redownload the games onto wii u.

The Wii eshop died in 2019. Wii U and 3DS eshops will die in 2022.

Yay...
Now I'm realising that maybe physical games are better. Spent a shit load on virtual console games. When my wii dies, so do they. I tried just putting my sd card into the Wii u and it wouldn't let me play them.

Edit - saw a video last night on YouTube, this guy, this year did the transfer. Nintendo left the Wii Shop open just for the transfer tool. So I'll try it. But still, how am I going to copy everything on sd card to the system memory? It won't fit. And then the rest will be lost?

So I did the math. My wii storage has 1437 blocks free.

I have 3612 blocks of virtual console games on SD card which have to be copied across to on board memory for the system transfer.

I have to get rid of 2175 blocks of stored virtual console games. Even if I delete games I already own and sacrifice large games like World of Goo, N quest, Lost winds and Sin and Punishment. I still have to get rid of 1196 blocks more.

Since the eshop is dead I can't redownload the games anymore.

Maybe, I could transfer some games first, then do the transfer again? As the faq said you could distill multiple wiis data into one wii U? Its a risk. If I do the data transfer I assume my sd card games will become unplayable as my account association will be removed. Wtf do I do?

During a citytrip this weekend I saw that there's an adult education network in the French speaking region called iFAPME.  Wonder why kind of adult education they teach. LOL

like most adult education classes, it's probably something that most everyone should have already learned well by now.

This weekend I've been playing The Ascent, but I may be stopping soon.  The enemy levels are too high and im struggling to grind my character to keep up.  So...not sure what's next for me.  Maybe Gears 5.

GG, I wouldn't stress it too much. Consider just saving your Wiiware games and then getting a raspberry pi for any retro games you would still like to play. A retroarch system takes a little time to set up, but the end result is very satisfying and they play just as well as anything that ever appeared on the virtual console.

This weekend has been all about Rune Factory 4 for me. This game is pure comfort food. Absolutely loving it. It's atmosphere lacks a bit behind Frontier and even Tides of Destiny, but it's paced very well and absolutely chock full of ways to spend the day. There's a great deal more of community interaction as well so that's a nice plus for it as well.

I don't even think the Wii on board memory has enough to store all my WiiWare games 😐 that's why I bought an sd card in the first place.

Damn, just realised I've not completed a game in a while.

Asphalt Legends 9 is sucking away my play time. On the plus side its one of my favourite racing games. And I'm happy to report you really don't have to pay anything. I've unlocked powerful and cool looking cars, I have more than enough cash and daily credits.

If you play all the modes and events you can reap about 65 tokens a day, regardless of your career progression.

I've found many, many ways to detour around any restrictions.

And I have very few complaints about the game.

Now onto critically acclaimed platformer Horace. It's different from many games in that it weaves an everyday story about a family, into a platformer. There are lots and lots of lovely pixel art cutscenes.

Unfortunately the only voice actor in the game is the robotic main character. He literally speaks the dialogue of the other characters. Which is appropriate as the game is about his experience and life in this family he is recounting to you. But there are such interesting looking characters, I feel it could be enhanced by more voice actors.

The gameplay has one hit kills like The Way, but also infinite lives and instant respawns. Now this is one of the few games where the switch button d-pad replacements aren't up to the job and the analog controls are better. There are some timed sections where you have to complete a perfect run. These I'm not a huge fan of because you have to restart from the very beginning of the section. They are very short though and satisfying when you complete them.

This game is high in the charm department.

There’s plenty of online sites where you can learn for free. LOL

This weekend I returned to play more Dragon Quest XI: S Definitive Edition on the Xbox One. Also played a bit of Skyward Sword HD and Monster Hunter Rise on the Switch.

Okay New ability gained in Horace, can walk on ceilings. Games feels like 2d Mario Galaxy sections with gravity. I like it. However the timed sections can be a bit much. It can be pretty tough. Almost reminds me of 2D Sonic, the speed of movement and jumping. It becomes something of a memory test as you die multiple times before getting it just right. Dvader would love this? Game has opened up, I'm in a post apocalypse future. Exploration elements now. Getting better
