I have been playing some Dragon Quest 8, but not too much. I actually just arrived in key West today for a week-long family vacation. So, not a whole lot of gaming from me this week.

Where did you get the PSVR? And didn't you already have a VR kit for your PC?

I'm tempted to get a PSVR, especially at $200. Unfortunately, it's tethered to the system, which will likely be too frustrating to use with my dog in the room.

Yeah, I've been considering it too. I've messed around a little bit with it and did enjoy my time with it. But even at $200 I'm not sure I can entirely justify it. Plus I have the dog thing too.

I’m not too fussed about VR myself. I’ve tried it not too long ago and while it’s cool for about 10 or 15 minutes I would just much rather play my games with a standard controller on a TV screen.

Yes I do but I really want to play Astro bot and I wanted a camera for PS4 so that I can play Dreams with the move and have dreams vr as well. Also RE7 is VR only on PS.

Read this the other day and it saddened me. Hopefully he was just talking off the cuff in the heat of the moment because I’d love to see him return to making games in some capacity again.

I don't blame him. If I worked on great games for decades and made millions of dollars, in this current environment we live in I would take my money and run too. He left his mark. Sometimes it's better to burn out than to fade away.

Don't think I wrote about this yet, but my son got Pokémon Lets Go Pikachu with the pokéball controller.

I've been watching him and the missus play, so here are some early impressions:

The graphical style is very cirsp and clean, but also decidedly last-gen There's nothing here that couldn't be pulled off on a GameCube, save for the resultion it's running at.  Despite that, I've noticed some stutter while just traversing the world, which is very odd, let alone in something that is as good as a first party release on a Nintendo console.  The catching, which has been lifted directly from pokemon Go, fits in nicely, and it's cool to see all the critters running about in the overworld, BUT this has a big impact on battle as well.  Since you're no longer battling wild pokémon, you're never in danger of running out of PP to perform your attacks with.  Couple this with the fact that your starter Pikachu learns some nice moves early on that are very effective at beating the first couple of gyms, and you're basically brute forcing your way through the early stages with only one pokémon.  All in all, I don't see why Game Freak didn't simply reduce the PP of each attack to balance the loss of battling wild pokémon.

Another niggle is that the game will ask you up front which controller you will be using every time you start the game, but then makes no concessions to that choice.  The Pokéball controller doesn't have an A, B, X, or Y button, yet the on screen prompts stay exactly the same as if you were playing with a regular JoyCon.  There's really no excuse for this kind of laziness.

As for the Pokéball controller itself, there's an obvious lure to playing a pokémon game with a genuine pokéball, and the controller is very well made.  There's a slight rubbery feel to the plastics that ensures that it doesn't slip from your grip and feels soft to the touch.  The control stick is tiny but workable, and the way the LED ring lights up around it and the speaker is hidden in that same ring is just wonderfully done.  However, as an actual controller it falls short.  There are only 2 buttons, which is less than what the game itself is created for, and the second button is pressing down on the tiny joystick.  I've seen my son make a couple of wrong choices by accident as the stick would slightly tilt off center as he pressed down on it.

All in all it's pretty standard Pokémon stuff.  Everything functions and is as expected, but they could have taken the graphics so much further.  Hopefully the 'mainline' pokemon game in 2019 will take better advantage of the hardware to improve visuals further.  As for the controller, it's a cool piece of tech and adds to the immersion, but it's too expensive and a tad too fiddly.

Looks good to me. Style is very clean and true to the series. Could be better, but I expect some games like Animal Crossing for instance to not be graphical beasts. Just clean and nice art. I keep forgetting that Pokemon games are actually pretty cool JRPGs. Pokemon Yellow was my first, I might buy this game. Can you test out playing it 3 player?
