I don't think most people understand the concept of 4K versus 1080p. They don't even understand 1080p versus 720p....to most people it's still HD versus non-HD. So when it comes to any new game console I don't think the level of HD is even a thought. At least, when I talk to people I know, who aren't nerds...all these different resolutions mean nothing to them. It's basically like it's still 2006 when HDTV's first started getting big.
4k is going to be a very small selling point for Scorpio. Unfortunately I think it's going to be an incredible console that's held back by being touted as an update to Xbone instead of a true next-gen system....which means no exclusive games that are built for it (and MS is already hurting badly for exclusives anyway). It's going to get lumped into the same category as the PS4 Pro even though it blows it away.
I WAS really looking forward to it, but after realising MS's lack of exclusives and the fact that it's not going to be used to it's full potential, I figure I'm much better off just upgrading my PC rather than getting a Scorpio. That said if I could get one for like $200 I would scoop it up in a heartbeat. Anything more than that it's just not worth it for me. I still have to buy a Nintendo at some point too, once it has some games I want to play. And I'd be more apt to buy a PS4 Pro over a Scorpio just because Sony has a lot of great exclusives that aren't on PC.
I really liked that thing that Digital Foundry did on the Scorpio, it sounds like it'll be an excellent system. I'll definitely be picking one up myself, will likely get it on preorder as soon as it's available. I think it'll probably be about $499 USD which will likely equate to around $649 Canadian. Probably won't have. 4K tv by then but that's ok I'll get one eventually plus I'll still see benefits to games until then.
I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get a 1080Ti for the price of a Scorpio over here when it comes out. It's not even a hard decision to make.
Really loving how that InkPhone is clipping through his cup.
Well personally I find that kind of stuff immersion breaking but hey, you do you.
Nintendo Switch to host an arcade full of Namco classics Namco Museum
Apparently you can turn the Switch sideways and play like that to better emulate the 'arcade feeling'. I wonder if that won't be detrimental to the hardware though. If you're holding the Switch in your hands horizontally, there's no strain on the connectors between JoyCons and tablet. If you're holding it upright, gripping one JoyCon with both hands, the whole weight of the tablet hinges on that one connector.
That's a cuphone. Make calls and drink together.
Vertical switch stand coming?
If anyone is interested in the Switch Hori official stand, I have it. I bought it for Splatoon 2 because I want to play with joycons un-attached and wanted to charge it at the same time. It folds up flat and is larger than I thought it would be. It's around the same size as Switch itself. I like how all Switch stands are elevated because you need to access the port at the bottom for charging. It has the unintended side effect of pushing the screen closer to your face. Which is great considering that I will have it on a tray on my lap.
Nintendo's not making Hey! Pikmin eurogamer.net
It not being Nintendo is one thing, but it's being developed by Arzest. Arzest, from New Yoshi's Island and Yoshi Topsy Turvy infamy. I think I'll pass on this.
Is Arzest pronounced "Ar-zest" or "Arse-st"?
Battle of the SNES's
Which was the best looking and ugliest in order. Europe/USA/Japanese?
I went looking for pictures of SNES' from different regions to add to GG's post and I can say that the battle is over. This is officially the best looking SNES:
It looks like a TMNT with a master sword stuck on its head.
This is better:
Pffft. Mine looks as if it hovers. Beat that.
This is awesome
