Nintendo Forums Admin contacted someone from a dev house about NX
We had a brief chat with a senior developer at a major game publishing company based in the U.S., and according to him, Nintendo NX is going to have very impressive hardware. Based on the development kit, the sheer processing capabilities of the hardware (which still hasn't been finalized) are going to be "incredibly powerful" and quite possibly faster than whatever Sony and Microsoft have in store. Specifically, one software demo included with the kit crunches so many polygons that it's currently impossible to run at 60fps using a current-generation Intel (we're assuming a Core i7 Skylake) CPU and a nearly top-of-the-line graphics card (no specifics provided, but they probably used a single graphics card).
AMD's Q3 earnings conference call was a couple days ago but for those that missed it:
AMD's other semi-custom win should start ramping in the latter half of 2016, which will help some. It is widely rumored this is the next generation Nintendo console. If so, the ASP for the chip will be significantly lower than what Sony and Microsoft pay, if one goes by historical profiles. It's also likely to be lower in volume, again going by history. Even so, it will be significant, and more so in 2017. Of course, this assumes the semi-custom win is with Nintendo, if not, we'll have to go only by the remarks about it being worth up to $500 million in its lifetime.

Rumored Ubisoft dev on NX:
Hi, found this thread through neogaf. I am a mid level-ish environment artist/designer at Ubisoft, and our office did get the SDK this week. I wasn't technically supposed to see it but was working late Friday and managed to sneak a peek of others playing with the demos. Can't comment on the fps specifically, but both demos I saw seemed to be running fine on our (relatively decked out) machine. One of the demos particularly looked gorgeous, and the impression around the office is that people are pleasantly surprised with this kind of focus on graphics from Nintendo. I'm not working on anything Nintendo-related and can't confirm anything else, but I can agree with the processing power statements. It should be an exciting little machine and from what I see, fun to develop for.
Just a thought, what if the NX was a hybrid but the base console unit could have access to all the processing power of the portable part which plugged into it too? So you'd theoretically get more juice out of it then what's possible with a console by itself. Of course it would be priced like what a portable + home console would total up to. But it's made clear that this is Nintendo's complete and total system for the next decade.
It sounds like the price could be scary.
Not if they do away with any kind of silly expensive controller like the Gamepad.
But we need to keep things in perspective here. When Nintendo was making Wii, they had two versions of the machine. The one we got, and a super powerful one that supposedly was on par with 360. They could be trying something like that again....just testing the waters.
Also, the last few Nintendo consoles have had "industry leading chips". So I won't be excited for anything until rumors are confirmed or denied. Before Wii came out, you had Reggie Fils-Aime saying shit like "Well the Wii is certainly more powerful than anything on the market today". Making it sound as if the fucking thing was some middle ground between Xbox and 360. As it turned out, it was BARELY more powerful than Gamecube or Xbox...and I still think XBOX was better in many ways. Either way, it wasn't powerful enough to matter at all.
Then again with Wii U, it was technically the most powerful console when it launched. Again, just barely more powerful than last-gen consoles...a hair ahead of the 360/PS3. Therefore, when I hear NX has industry leading chips, all I can imagine is that its going to be BARELY more powerful than the PS4. I hope that's not the case because frankly, that's not good enough for a console coming out beyond this point. Especially for Nintendo...if they really want the hardcore non-Nintendo crowd to take them seriously, they need to go all out and blow people away. They can't come up with one cool idea and half ass the shit out of everything else like they always seem to do.
A console just barely better than PS4 will die a horrible death. If that's all it is, they'd be better off sticking with Wii U. And this isn't even considering everything they need to do with online service, user accounts, storage space...etc.
Hmmmm... on the PSN Flash sale, Bioshock is all of $3. I know i didn't click with me when I played it, but..... $3. That's tempting.
I was going to make you proud and purchase Lone Survivor but PSN won't let me enter/modify my card since my previous debit card expired.
Yeah, Edge,I would like to think Nintendo will learn from releasing underwhelming hardware but who knows...
Where is Luke? And is that the Death Star Part 3?
Prey for the Gods
It looks interesting and currently it is for PC and Mac.
The game is suppose to be their take on something like Shadow of the Colossus.
SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
Certain theatres will have a Star Wars marathon on December 17th
They will air all six films starting with Phantom Menace through Return of the Jedi.
The Marathon will be 15 plus hours not including intermissions.
SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
That isn't the Death Star it is the Starkiller Base.
SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
How did they make Leia look almost attractive in that poster? Those are some amazing special effects.
Those duck lips...
I really didn't play anything this weekend because of family activities. Just a teeny bit of Mario Maker but not enough to make a level worthwhile.
