Yeah it is a time trial of nearly every game every character is from and they said you can try to see how far you can go in the game in the time it gives you.
8 player mode is offline only. I wish I had 8 friends.
While 8 player smash sounds awesome, it also seems as it'll be as rare as a Destiny raid. Even if you could find 7 friends for local play, will you be able to find 7 friends to play nothing but Smash for a whole evening? There's no other game you can play with that many people. I had 4 friends over a while ago, and we had difficulty finding enough 5-player games to play on the WiiU, let alone playing with 8 people.
Unless, of course, you could set up 2 TV's with multiple consoles, in which case frantic multiplayer mayhem would ensue. I remember times when we had a bunch of friends over with 2 or 3 Wii's, which was a blast.
