I find it hard to believe Wii U outsold Xbox 360 in its launch period. PS3 I can see, but not 360.
360 was a huge deal....in fact I don't think there's been a bigger deal since then. I remember it being impossible to find a console and people camping out at off the wall retail stores hoping to get one. By contrast, I walked into Gamestop the day Wii U came out with my girlfriend to pick mine up. There was nobody there at store opening other than us. She didn't have it preordered, and was still able to pick one up for her nephew...and I picked up mine.
This is a busy store too, where there are normally concert like lines at a console launch.
Seems the Kotaku article on the page back said Wii U had sold 3 million by the end of December 2012, confirmed. Life to date sales including Nov/Dec puts Wii U at a bigger install base than its rivals. But of course that's after a year on the market. Still, selling 2.34 million Wii Us over the span of a couple of months. That's well over two-thirds of the Xbox One's 2013 launch sales.
2.34 million Wii Us vs 3 Million XB1s sold this holiday.
That's not bad at all. Problem is the rest of the year sales were shite and Nintendo left it's vastly inflated forecast estimates up. Because I update the news I remember reading in October-ish a Videogamer article that put Nintendos' forecasts under the microscope and it said that for them to reach their 9 million target they would have to sell 6 million over the holidays. Obviously I knew Wii U sold about 3 million at launch so I knew well in advance they would never get close to the forecasts and that their forecasts were a joke.
^GG that is not bad? No it's horrible. I think you are just looking at the numbers and that is it. The wii u trended downward in its second year, that never happens, only to dying systems. That is the biggest issue it's trending downward and now it has major competition that is already passing it. Obviously the numbers could be worse, it could be the vita, but vita and wii u share one thing in common, both are trending down not up.
anyway the reason I brought it up was cause those were old numbers, they mean nothing now. You can't compare people saying wii u is doomed back in early last year to what happened now. Back then it was premature, as of last week now we have enough info to really make a on assessment, make no mistake the wii u is doing horrible, historically bad. Wii u = Saturn, you understand this right?
I am not saying this to be mean or anything just that I have been through this before and I hope to get you prepared that there is a possibility this will be a dead system in a few years. Enjoy what comes out, don't expect much change.
360 and PS3 were severely supply constrained at launch, Wii U was not.
Or the name of an Autopsy album.
There you go, exactly as I said, the shares spiked sort of mid November then inflated in anticipation of the earnings report then dropped. Overall if you look at the chart they are about where they were at the start of December so all this shares "plunge" chat needs to be contextualised more. The shares have gone up and down all year.
This is true....plus the PS3 was $600 and there were stacks of them sitting in the stores.
IMO that's a way of letting off a company for not getting their shit together for launch, vs a company that has intentionally produced a good supply of launch units. There's no way to go back in time and equalise the same conditions, so going by your proviso we can never directly compare them.
GG great point on the stock and about china, I think china will stabalize the stock for a while. The stock is definetky trending up all year and this 6% drop actually isnt that large, could have been worse.
Correct.
What is the average games attach rate on Wii U? I've had mine for two months now, and I have purchased five games already. Seven if you count the bundled NSMBU and SLU.
I have six, not counting Nintendoland.
I think bundled games should count since I would not have purchased my Wii U without them.
I have 4 retail games: Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Mario 3D World, and Lego Batman 2: Super Heroes of DC Universe.
I also have two virtual console titles: Super Mario World and Earthbound.
I have other systems to purchase games for so I sometimes don't get around to purchasing all the games I want.
I didn't even purchase any PS3 titles last year after I purchased Demon's Souls in April or May.
SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
Oh, yeah. I have two VC games as well: SMW and Mega Man 2.
Looks like the software attach rate is pretty good for the U on TheVGPress. Don't worry, Nintendo. We got your back!
Nintendo should probably send me a god damned thank you letter. Since buying the Wii U I've bought 4 retail games through the eShop (NSMBWU, Game & Wario, Pikmin 3, and SM3DW), got NintendoLand bundled, and purchased Monster Hunter 3 and Rayman Legends. Not to mention about a dozen VC games and a few other eShop games like D&D Chronicles of Mystara and Mysterious Cities of Gold. So ummmm... I guess we can say 8 or 9?
What the hell why not? Earlier today I started a CEO Robio Twitter account @RobioCEO. And I already have one follower, plus a spammer follower who probably wants me to look at porn.
I got better. How about Mario Kart Kombat (or would people get Mario Karbat?) Racing to the finish line is only half the battle. Your kart can transform into a huge mech, and the only way to win a race is to destroy all the other racers with fatalities.
Thank God.
DmC HELP.
I am on level 19 about to attack Mundu (given the cutscenes).
I have two bridges ahead of me, think of them as candy bars.
I jump easily from each one and then there is something that requires the sicle to destroy at the end, but I can't jump to it.
Anyone remember this?
