Just finished listening to the Game Under Podcast Ep. #37. It's been quite some time since I listened to a podcast but the Homer pic enticed me to it, good stuff guys.
P.S. I believe that the 'birds' in Gears of War were actually insect swarms.
Nintendo shares in Japan drop 18%
(Reuters) - Shares in Nintendo Co Ltd tumbled by nearly a fifth on Monday after it warned of a third straight year of operating losses, heaping pressure on the creator of "Super Mario" to abandon its policy of not licensing its software to rivals.
After the market close on Friday, the Kyoto-based company slashed its global Wii U sales forecast for the year to March 31 by almost 70 percent to 2.8 million units."Its console-based business model spells doom for stakeholders. It has no choice but to accept the change," Jefferies analysts wrote in a note. "We believe Mario on mobile is coming."
They raised their price target on Nintendo to 29,000 yen from 26,550 yen, with a 'buy' rating on expectations of a change in strategy. Nintendo has so far refused to allow its games to be played on consoles built by competitors or on tablets or other mobile devices that are increasingly used by gamers. At one stage, the shares fell as much as 18.5 percent. By 0104 GMT, the stock was down 11.9 percent at 12,900 yen. It was the most traded stock on the main board. If it were to finish the day at that last traded price, it would mark its worst one-day decline since July 2011, wiping off about $2.3 billion from Nintendo's market capitalization.
Nintendo now expects an operating loss of 35 billion yen ($335.7 million), compared with an initial forecast for a 100 billion yen profit. The weak Wii U sales stand in sharp contrast to those of its predecessor, Wii, which propelled Nintendo shares to a record high of 73,200 yen in November 2007. The stock has lost more than 80 percent since then.
The latest warning comes just three months after Nintendo reiterated its sales projections for the Wii U, counting on the console to revive its fortunes as Microsoft Corp released its new XBox One and Sony Corp launched its PlayStation 4. Nintendo also cut its sales forecast for its handheld 3DS to 13.5 million units from 18 million. It now forecast a full-year dividend of 100 yen, down from a previous estimate of 260 yen.
The Japanese game maker is to hold a management strategy presentation on January 30.
Nintendo might have lost $2.3 billion in one day. Holy shit.I wonder what will happen on this management meeting.
EDIT: It ended at -6.15%, much better than expected.
I read about the 13GB patch for Dead Rising 3, that's pretty hefty. The only thing I can think this would be for is that this is the upcoming dlc and everyone has to download it as a 'patch' like this for online play compatability.
13GB patch for Dead Rising 3, WTF!
Seriously WTF, 13G PATCH?!?!?!
As far as weird Dreamcast games I don't think Jet Set Radio gets enough credit for being as strange as it is. It's basically rival gangs that settle crap by graffiti and roller blading. I guess that's just Japanese rebellion for you.
But did you have your augmentations disabled? It would be fine with augmentations, easy even.
That's what I've been trying but he throws 3 grenades of 3 different variations each time.
13 GB patch? Dayuuuum.... those harddrives are going to be filling up fast.
Also, remember the stock hit a 3 month high in mid-November, the stock had been steadily rising up to around a 15% overall increase IIRC so a similar loss would leave them pretty even overall. And of course stock valuation doesn't affect profits/loss/equity. Unless the company was thinking of selling stocks to raise money.
EDIT: Also if $2.3 billion was lost from Nintendo's market capitalization (which it wasn't) Nintendos pre-drop market capitalization was $18.4 billion, compared to Sonys' $17.7 billion market capitalization, as Sony also had a bad earnings report in November.
"The reasons for Sony’s fall and Nintendo’s rise are typical opaque, but most recently the under-performance of several Sony movies (including Will Smith’s After Earth) and problems at the company’s music and laptop divisions have been the main problem.
Sony’s PlayStation business has been doing extremely well, but it’s offset by the company’s other struggling businesses.
The reasons Nintendo is back in favour is partially due to the relative success of the 3DS but also investor rumours that the company will shortly announce significant changes to its business model. "
GG, do you stick against the wall and wait on him?
I think the best thing is to unlock the laser rifle, sneak about and shoot him through the glass. But I'll need to find some more ammo. This guy can insta-death you.
So I was just reading the financial reports, Nintendo "Shares plunged downwards by 18.5 per cent, but rallied to a dip of only 6.2 per cent by close of play." So it plunged 18.5% but then rose by 12.3%. Weird. Seems most sites are reporting the 18% "plunge" but not the actual revised figure. They're pretty eager to pile on the doom, let's see how eager they are to correct themselves.
I think any short term falls or rises are made by opportunists, Nintendo has a pretty long track record to look at before deciding whether to invest. People should roughly know what to expect. But all this talk of a new business model..... er.... didn't China just unban games consoles? There's a new market of billions of consumers, get in quick.
This is Nintendo stock in 2013, seems it goes up and down regularly. But with a gradual incline overall.
Namco Bandai has emerged as Japan’s most powerful games company in this year’s edition of Toyo Keizai’s Corporate Power Ranking list.
The business publication posted its list here, as spotted by DualShockers. Here’s a shortlist of where the key game companies appeared among the list, which spans all industries:
Positions are determined by a company’s growth, profitability, safety and scale, with a score of between 500 and 1000 determined for each category. The sum then decides a company’s final ranking. The list features 2,000 companies in total.
Seems legit.
For me, as I read a lot I was telling you guys that Wii U sold around the same figure in the first five months as PS3 and 360 did in their first five, I saw an IGN article/graph. But somehow U was seen as a flop in spite of this, because monthly sales were slow, even though total sales were pretty high. Of course sales have remained pretty slow but we had detractors calling the system a flop in February! Mostly because it couldn't compare to huge Wii sales.
Interesting.
I found this article hilarious, but I couldn't decide whether it was fun or offensive. Or offensively fun.
Basically this writer has been accused of trolling Microsoft so instead of backing off he tries ever harder as a running joke.
And then the comments are hilarious too:
Sonys new PS Move
Looks Awesome!
I sort've agree but I was thinking that you have to build them your self what happens if you lose a part of the controller and it can't go into that form.
SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
This one cracks me up.
I finally managed to sneak a few minutes in Animal Crossing last night before bed. Went to the island, did a fishing challenge, and harassed the town people. I'm still in awe at the amount of stuff it's crammed inside the game.
I was joking.
The PS Move Bat controller already exists.
When are we going to hook up on Animal Crossing?
I have no idea; Mainly because I'm usually the college I go to when I usually used to play Animal Crossing now I tend to play it a lot later or before I go to school but it is boring because there is nothing to do at 8:00 AM.
