A page filled with Pikmin III and GTAV pics. Eww. RTS pics below. Was hard to find many zoomed in pictures, though, but in terms of scale some of these are more zoomed in than Pikmin. Especially the Shogun II pics.
Zoomed in RTSs using infinitely larger areas and more units don't like quite as bad (but still look crap):
This is the closest to Pikmin 3 I could find:
Ball and chain is second last boss battle, and sweat bomber is quite a few stages before it. Sweat bomber can be skipped if you're confused to the point of not actually being up to it yet.
Yes, trying to leave the museum early results in you becoming one of the skeletal exhibits.
Why not a triple post? Someone calls Phil Fish an arsehole and Phil Fish tells that person to kill themselves, and an article quoting people complaining about death threats and stalking is sympathetic towards him?
Same here! Its like getting free stuff now.

...D'Aw... !? ...No, no! Don't Cry! Awwwwwwwwwww...!
I wasn't referring to you, more the internet at large.
There is plenty more than just better textures, there are better shaders, lighting, depth of field and effects as well as more detail on characters and enemies. Don't play down textures though, more texture detail means more detail in the environment that isn't a little thing. IMO they should have aped NFS Most Wanted, a game where it never rains but the roads still look wet. It's done for reflections and detail.
It got good reviews but it seems the vgpress consensus is that it's fairly average.
FOOLZ since when did playing Pikmin 3 turn into some pissing match with PC RTS games?
Your pictures are way off anyway, when in camera mode in Pikmin you are half the height of a blade of grass.
This picture for instance you would have to jam the camera right close to the wheel nut of this tank to get something similar.
Here's some rts ground textures on other systems like PS3/360 and PC
Company of heroes 2 PC.
This really looks that bad now?
Bonus round, The Last of Us:
Look at the textures here, in particular the ground when viewed at an angle and the corner of a bed? This is what happens when you view a ground texture at a distance and angle it's not meant to be seen at.
You are the one making it a pissing contest lol. You mentioned RTS, so I posted RTS pics for comparison. I even said that scale was inaccurate for Company of Heroes II. And yes, Pikmin 3 looks shit on and off even when you don't zoom in because of how inconsistent it is. At least it does in screenshots and videos.
The pictures you posted often don't look much worse than some areas of Pikmin 3 (even zoomed out to the same level as they are, and some look better IMO), and that's the issue.
It's not just the textures; the geometry is awful too. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that elsewhere it looks really good.
Miyamoto interview:
M: “Even before 2007, right after the release of Pikmin 2, the development team was already working on a test production of the next Pikmin. In fact, each time new hardware such as Nintendo DS, Wii and Nintendo 3DS came out, they did a test production. All the ideas that came up then, were applied to Pikmin 3.
“This process is not only applied to the Pikmin series, but to the others franchises as well. Roughly, a small team of about five staff do various experiments at the stage of the test production, and then we increase the number of staff dramatically when the title starts to be developed as an actual product.”
N: If I’m not mistaken, Pikmin was the last time you worked on a truly new adventure type game. Don’t you miss this?
M: “I happen to be working on a completely new game even now. The project is actually getting busier lately.”
Seems they have a small prototyping team constantly working on titles before proper production begins.
In the broader context of the interview is he implying that it's a new IP, or just a new adventure game that could be an existing IP? AKA Zelda by Miyamoto?
Really?
I make one remark saying it's not that bad compared to RTS and it isn't.
You then appear and post swathes of PC RTS screens is turning it into a pissing match LOL
Your scale is inaccurate for all your pictures. Not one of those games goes first person so close to the ground to take pictures.
And Wii U isn't a PC, so compare it to 360 and PS3 RTS games.
No for a start and even if I did agree with what you said - that even proves my point. That they are comparable. And BTW all the Pikmin 3 screens you have seen are captured and posted at standard def gamepad resolution. The game on an HDTV looks better. But Wii U doesn't let you capture 720p screens.
Posting comparison screens is a pissing contest? Yeah, when you start to call it one, and then post pics in reply to try and prove me wrong or something.
No, the scale in Shogun II is accurate because you can zoom out so far. That doesn't mean you can zoom in as far as in Pikmin, but the way you put it (including Pikmin height if I remember correctly) gives scale context, not just "you can zoom in ridiculously close".
Anyway, who cares how it looks zoomed in? I don't. Look at the ground in the Pikmin III picture I posted. It's zoomed out, and the geometry and textures look like shit. Much, much worse than most Company of Heroes II, Shogun II, Starcraft 2 pics I've seen, and not in any way of comparable quality and the shitness is amplified becuase of how much better the Pikmin and some plants look. That's the issue: it looks shit zoomed out! (Before your reply with the details in those textures are actually more detailed than in company of heroes etc., yes they are, but that's part of the issue: it looks like terrible, lo-res squashed, scanned photographs instead of bland generic ground that doesn't draw any attention to itself.)
Does it always look shit zoomed out? No. In fact, often it looks better than those games because there's more room to make things look good due to the smaller scale. But some parts just look horrible, and it's got nothing to do with zooming in.
Your point? "Zoomed in RTSs using infinitely larger areas and more units don't like [sic]* quite as bad (but still look crap)". Hmm, yep that definitely sounds like I'm saying they don't look comparable, doesn't it?
*Yes, I'm [sic]ing myself.
So you start a pissing contest "posting pics in reply to try and prove me wrong" then complain when I disagree with you? Nice.
Umm, lots of people seeing how it frequently zooms in for animatics and ingame cutscenes and how the game gives you a motion controlled first person camera to take in game pics and post them to Miiverse.
Really?
Even if I were to agree with that, which I don't, you know that Pikmin 3 screen you posted is a bloated out of resolution non-representative screen of how the game looks right? And that the ground textures there can look twice as detailed when effects are applied, which aren't in your bloated out of resolution non-representative screen.
Please come to your senses and show me all these amazing 360/PS3 RTS games that look like this in a first person view.
Eh... I think the game looks great, bordering on the absolute gorgeous at moments.
Maybe it's just down to us being spoiled these days. Yes, the first Pikmin games didn't have depth of field, but should we be all in awe about it's inclusion now, when it is commonplace in so many contemporary games? In it's timeframe, Pikmin 1 & 2 were more impressive games visually then Pikmin 3 is now.
I do agree with Foolz somewhat in that the game isnt very consistent in the quality of it's graphics. Some area's are very well realized, clearly containting large, highly detailed and unique bits of scenery, while the area's inbetween stitching everything together do show that when all is said and done, it's just an indulating plane with some other elements jammed into it.
Personally, for it being one of Nintendo's first efforts at a HD game, I think it looks wonderfull. It also looks wonderfull when compared to mostly anything on consoles released up to this point. Perhaps expectations were just raised too high due to the prolongued wait? I mean everyone was dieing for Pikmin to release.
"So you start a pissing contest "posting pics in reply to try and prove me wrong" then complain when I disagree with you? Nice."
Did you read what I posted? We agree that they are comparable. How was I trying to prove you wrong exactly? Hmm? You turned it into a pissing contest by saying I was then posting pictures to prove me wrong despite the fact that I was agreeing with you, just because I dared to point out how shit Pikmin 3 looks at times.
"Umm, lots of people seeing how it frequently zooms in for animatics and ingame cutscenes and how the game gives you a motion controlled first person camera to take in game pics and post them to Miiverse."
That makes the shitness in the ground quality all the worse then, and less excusable.
"Please come to your senses and show me all these amazing 360/PS3 RTS games that look like this in a first person view."
Why can I only post shitty 360/PS3 RTSs? Is the Wii U last gen?
"Even if I were to agree with that, which I don't, you know that Pikmin 3 screen you posted is a bloated out of resolution non-representative screen of how the game looks right? And that the ground textures there can look twice as detailed when effects are applied, which aren't in your bloated out of resolution non-representative screen."
So whenever a screenshot looks crap, it's not representitive? There's worse than what I posted in videos I've seen. Is this video non-representive? Look at that tree. It looks like shit. It's not like I even had to go looking for it. I clicked the second video on YouTube and fast forwarded randomly, and look at what's sticking out? Glaringly obvious shit.

SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
"When making the announcement yesterday, Levine said that he and his cohorts at Irrational listened to what fans said they wanted with regard to DLC. The add-ons weren't farmed off to auxiliary developers, aren't comprised of content that's already on the disc and aren't a bunch of ideas that were set aside for later use by corporate decision-making."

I am already getting twitchy and anxious and my mind is reeling at what kind of connections and tie-ins these DLC's will reveal!
